take your time. you will get frustrated hitting. you have to take pitches and read them well. once you learn the strike zone and get walks and learn not to swing at pitches in the dirt, this game takes off in ways video games rarely do.

i started as a notorious swinger. if i take long layoffs, i return to a free swinger. but once i get back to taking pitches...ooooooh yeah.

today, i was in a relative pitchers duel when in the ninth atlanta brought in some minor league rp. using tyler colvin, the rp just hung a slider. i made some ohmygawd grunt noise and powered a 440 ft hr to right center. i just knew i was knocking that one out.

as for pitching, they will punish you if you don't think about what you are doing. if you have your C call pitches and you get a bad feeling he is wrong: pick another pitch. i have given up my share of big hits when i just knew it was a bad call but decided to trust the C.

use your bullpen. do not ride your starters arm into trouble. i have many times tried to squeeze one more inning or even one more batter out of him and got punished.

ps: one last thing, the game rarely cheats you. when you lose, its your fault. it sucks, but thats the truth. i have gotten so irritated at this game, but ultimately, it was my fault. i swung at a pitch(s) instead of working the count &/or taking the walk or something else like that.

Playing random games of a 29-game season with historical rosters.

The Phillies' Curt Schilling had a perfect game for 6 2/3 innings against me (Boston) at Fenway, before Ted Williams singled to center.

I was worried that the Phillies manager would take Schilling out while be was working on the perfect game (I'm not using DH), but he waited until it was broken up and then took him out.

      Phillies won 4-0 on a combined one-hitter.
It's on me. I shook his hand too hard. It was a hard ... kind of a slap-shake.

"What? You can't challenge a scoring play?''

In my last game in my franchise I hit a grounder as the runner was stealing so the shortstop was able to pick it up and fire it to first to end the game when it could've been a single. But I am 3-3 right now and all those losses were because I hung a bad pitch late in the game

          Damn...
I don't envy guys who are trying to run the Pirates or the Athletics.

After an 8 year franchise with the Mets, in which I managed to turn the team around in 3 years and win 3 World Series in a 5 year stretch, I decided to switch it up and go with the Athletics.

Now ....with the Mets I had some pieces to trade at the deadline...such as R.A. Dickey....Jon Niese.....Johan Santana....Jason Bay(yep...teams still wanted him) and even David Wright(eventually....I saw him starting the decline)
..so I could get a bunch of up and coming players that pretty much all hit at the same time....plus had the $$ to grab some top tier FA's such as Kershaw and Carlos Santana(which were my real main guys on either side of the ball, but cost me big time)

However, with the A's...when your top players are Balfour, Fuentes and McCarthy(not that they are not wanted....dealing pitching is pretty easy) and no real $$$ to spend....it does get a little more challenging.

Mid season now with them and they are playing surprisingly well.
I did allow myself to FA moves before the season started.
I ditched Manny Ramirez and replaced him with Johnny Damon and also picked off the FA list Derek Lee to play 1B for 1 year.

2.5 games out of 1st place(Texas has the lead) and 1.5 games out of the WC at the start of July.

I can't believe you traded away Wright. Eight seasons???? Man, I'm still working through Year 1 (52-53 currently) playing every game with the Mets.

(it was 2016 or 17 when I traded him...and that was AFTER moving him to 2B because he was on a downward trend and it didn't work to have 3B FA's get passed by because I had Wright(who I signed to a 6 year deal)

@Knight believe me, it's VERY frustrating being the Pirates. that's why i started franchising with the fictional rosters....much more enjoyable without any preconceived notions!!!

I'm usually not, either, but with a guy like Wright I am, so I never look to trade him. I wanted to cut bait with Dickey, Bay and a few other guys but never received an offer and when I ponied them up to other teams for players they had on the block, I was shot down.

                      I had increased R.A.D.'s ratings a bit.
For Bay...I was offered a C rated SS from an A.L. team(can't remember which) and took it just to shed the contract.

My Braves are second in the division, 2 games back from the Phillies who are a 47-28 team. The Braves are at 44-29 and found themselves in a bit of a pickle with almost no reliable setup reliever in Venters (5.53 ERA), O'Flaherty (4.08 ERA), and Moylan (3.91 ERA) having down years.

I was able to trade my struggling Jurrjens (4.87 ERA in Majors, but a 2.25 ERA in AAA), along with Adam Milligan and Carlos Perez to the Cincinatti Reds for their "ace closer" Aroldis Chapman! Chapman has pitched 30.2 innings and struck out 37 while walking 15 and allowing 15 hits. His ERA is at 2.05.

                          Welcome to Atlanta, Aroldis!

The Braves fans are beyond excited to see how electrifying this 1, 2 punch combination can be!

i just played atlanta in my franchise, but they are not doing well. jurrgens has a 5.54 era in our league. i lit him up also.

good move on the trade. my bullpen was killing me early so i had to move some guys through trades and sending some to the minors. one guy, i cant remember who, i could not trade but didn't really want to, is getting killed in the minors still. on my 40 man roster his bar is one of my better RP's.

i play who produces. that is the only way to win in this game.

I somehow forgot to save last time I posted on here, so that Chapman trade never happened! I thought it over again and thought better of it because it's still somewhat unrealistic as Chapman is having a great year out of the Reds' bullpen... So I made a more realistic trade and gave up a pitching prospect in Luis Avilan (lefty starter / reliever) to the Yankees for two players on their trading block: Joba Chamberlain and Andruw Jones.

ATL welcomes back Andruw Jones who's hitting .229 this year with 4 HR's, a small upgrade from Matt Diaz who's hitting .211 with 0 HR's. Diaz will be options to AAA Gwinnett to work on his swing and get back into his prime lefty-hitting form. ATL also just took a flyer on Joba who has a 5.31 ERA in the Yankees bullpen.

NYY seems to have made the move in an attempt to shed some salary and acquire a lefty reliever prospect in Avilan who's been starting in AAA and has accumulated a 4.34 ERA in 58 innings.
