Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread
Ryan Roberts went on the 15 day DL, I lost 2 of 3 to the Braves and then the opener to the Brewers.I'm hitting less and my pitching, or my bullpen specifically has started to struggle, seeing me demote Joe Paterson after a few bad outings on the spin, so up came Zagurski.
On the plus side I managed to take game 2 from the Brewers, and Matt
Davidson finally got his first major league hit (a 3-run homer off Gallardo) after being called up from AAA in place of the Tatman.
However I definitely feel like my guys need the all-star break to rest, anybody else ever felt like that?Comment

Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread
Armor & Sword I remember the 88 playoffs well I was eight. Growing up in Queens the family are mets fans and Orel crushed them. I vividly remember watching the series with my Dad and him telling me Gibson is a clutch player, (after he pinch hit), and then bam he hit the HR. I remember the mets owned the Dodgers in the season series that year but it was just the dodgers year.Comment

What file are the 1988 rosters under? Those are pretty awesome. I tried searching the rosters forum but couldn't find anything definitive. I'm also an idiot, so that may be the problem.Student at the University of Kentucky...GO BIG BLUE

Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread
Huge series for late July with the Nats. Washington takes the first game 1-0.
Jordan Zimmerman has been awful, so Gorzelanny got the start. He took a perfect game into the 7th. Chipper broke it up with a walk. McCann followed with a single to end the no-no bid. But other than that, I couldn't get anything going. Had just two hits and two walks.
Beachy gave up one unearned run (thanks to a Pastornicky error) in 7 innings.
I'm 55-38 now with a 4-game lead over the Nationals. The Phillies are 4.5 back.Comment

Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread
Great update lower wolf.
I just finished off a split with the Astros at home. After being unable to score runs the first 3 games in the series I exploded with 9 runs to secure a 9-4 win.
Adam LaRoche went 2-4 with a homer and 4 RBI's. He's slowly coming around. Average is up to .196!
Werth continues to be a beast he's now at .430 with 6 HR's and 14 RBI's through 14 games.
Begin a series with the first place Marlins coming up. I know it's early and standings don't really matter but I figured I'd post it anyways.

Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread
Currently 36-29 in late June with my Pirates.
I'm debating restarting with either the Cubbies or Rangers...I'm losing interest fast with this franchise.
I made a few trades to make my team competitive - I acquired Jason Werth, Ty Willingham, JJ Hardy, Brian LaHair and Liriano, but now I feel like I changed the DNA of the team too much. Plus, I started this with Spring Training rosters so the team still sucks...
Anyway I'm 4 games behind the Brewers. McCutchen is my MVP with a .323 AVG and 17 HRs. LaHair has been good too - .295/13 HR. My pitching sucks.Comment

Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread
You should just keep pushing through since you are already so close to the All-Star break. Another option is to keep this one but set it aside and start up another Franchise with a different roster.Currently 36-29 in late June with my Pirates.

Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread
okay update to the break. Lets just say things have not gone as planed.
Fictional White Sox General Manager Review
June 2012- July 17, 2012
Are we really this bad? Okay we come into the break 18-24 in June-July 17 and we are in last place in the AL Central. Overall we are 42-51 8.5 games back of the first place Twins. We started June suffering two big injuries. Rosas fractured his wrist and we were advised he would be out for 1 month. Nakamura was next breaking his shin on July 1st and will be out for two months. Both Rosas and Nakamura were penciled in as middle of the order bats and the lose of production has been catastrophic. We have been forced to use Levin at third and a combination of Perez, Terrero, Branch and Schmitt in the outfield. Our defense at third has particularly suffered without the sure handed Nakamura.
Positives:
Although somewhat challenged defensively Jared Levin has eased the offensive blow arising from the loss of Nakamura by producing at third. He comes into the break hitting .316 with 3HR.
We brought Alfonso Rodriguez up after Rosas went down with the hope that he could make up for some of the lost power. He has shown he can hit producing a .245AVG and 7HR in limited action at 1B and DH.
Jim Schmitt has received a lot more playing time in left and center due to the injury to Rosas and is starting to look like the player our scouts assure me he is. He comes into the break with 8 steals and batting .286 with 5HR.
Theo Foreman is our lone allstar and is having another huge year posting a .302AVG 22HR and 45RBI.
Ryan Pierce was brought up from triple A and in four starts has shown promise going 1-1 with a 2.01ERA
Negatives:
Our rotation continues to struggle. Smith and Morales have been steady if not great at 8-5 3.99ERA and 7-5 3.57ERA respectively. The rest of the rotation has been a disaster. After going 1-7 with a 4.80ERA we sent Lopez down to triple A. Archer has come back to earth and has been pitching to an over 5.00ERA in July. Rutledge has been even worse posting a 6.52ERA.
Our pen has struggled, likely in part do to overuse, with Alvarez, Owens and Ratliff all posting +4.00 ERA’s. Roberson has continued to be inconsistent, has blown 5 saves and has a +4.00ERA. We sent Ratliff down on July 2 and brought up the 30 year old veteran Harry Moore.
Our defensive and offensive production at catcher and shortstop continue to be poor. Time at short has been split between Ray Carrillo and Marty Kelly. Carrillo is probably best suited to a utility role and Kelly has been overmatched by major league pitching but this is our only option at this time.
Next up trade targets........Comment
