      Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread

Thanks to a 24 hour virus and a day off, i had a chance to get more franchise time in. Here is another year 1 Mets update for y'all. quickie edition.

Matt Harvey is red hot over last few starts, no runs given up in last 20 innings.

Johan has been awful last few starts, while Niese and Dickey continue to shine (CG shutout for Dickey vs the Padres).

Kirk has been red hot since i traded Torress, RBIs in last 5 games. highlights were an 8 RBI game and a 2 run single in top 10 to topple the Padres.

Not sure if i mentioned in last post, but i also traded Turner for Shoppach and called up Satin. Shoppach has been awesome in a platoon role.

Gentry has been TURRIBLE since being acquired, Rowand or Travis Snider (scooped off waivers) are close to getting the call up.

      Annnnnd: no new injuries! phew!

I put Chatwood on waivers because he was giving up hits more than anyone else, he ended up being claimed by Minnesota. Chacin wasnt consistent so I moved him down to AAA, waiting for Pomeranz to do better since LH/RH are averaging around .300 against him.

I'm using Arenado at 3rd which has gone better than I expected. Cuddyer has been nonexistent for me at this point so I've tried getting better match-ups for him. I've been using Giambi and Helton at an even 50-50 split but its slowly going to Giambi as Helton is on a really big slump of sub-.200. I'm also trying to find more time for Eric Young JR since he's my only player to consistently steal bases. I also signed Orlando Cabrera for my utility infielder since I have never seen anything worthwhile from Chris Nelson.

The contracts I've signed have been out of pure necessity really and kept them to realistic numbers. If they wanted some high numbers I just pass. And with the 2012 Rockies for me, things needed to be tweaked or it'll just get worse
Do you play EY in the OF or 2B or a bit of both? I love his speed, too. When I restart mine, I'm thinking of moving Cuddyer to 1B; I can't hit with Helton, either. Maybe platoon the two and cycle in Giambi once a week. I'd like to get more AB's for Colvin in my next go-round.

I'm also going to play Arenado at 3B: he's rated well in Scott's roster, plus I don't think Pacheco or Nelson are long-term options. I'm going to either trade or release Scutaro and will play Nelson at 2B, along with EY and Herrera.

I like your rotation choices, although Pomeranz will likely wind up in my rotation. Maybe go with a 4-man like irl (PAIRED PITCHING) and have 2 long men.

Keep us posted. With Tulo and Cargo, you can get this turned around.

Strictly LF/RF with Carlos in CF. I'm probably going to be trading Cuddyer at some point.

Snapped the skid with a 5-2 win over the Marlins. Lowrie went 1-or-4 in his Braves debut. Went over and looked at the Astros box score, Pastornicky was 2-for-4 with a double and a homer. Hope that trade doesn't come back to bite me.

              Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread

Well, I leave tomorrow for the beach for a week so I will unfortunately have to put the game down. Going from my memory, here is how I sit...(playing on All Star with everything identical to TNK sliders except human pitching, because I play on classic pitching).

The Mets are 17-14, second place in the NL East behind the Phillies, who are sitting at 22-9. The Dodgers and Giants are both tied for first in the West at 18-11, so I'm only a couple games out of the wild card.

As a team, we are batting .266, which is great. That's good for 6th in the MLB. The Mets are 19th in homeruns but are first, yes first, in runs scored in the NL with the Phillies right on their tail and third in the majors . They are hitting the ball with runners in scoring position and manufacturing runs as opposed to living and dying by the long ball. Defensively, the Mets are weak as they have committed enough errors to rank them 22nd, and even worse, sport a 4.56 ERA which is 29th in the majors, only behind Houston and Minnesota. I'm going to have to do something about the pitching, SPECIFICALLY the bullpen. I'm sure, by far, we have the worst bullpen in the league. We have the fifth most saves in the league but also are 23rd when it comes to blown save. The only somewhat consistent pitcher in the bullpen has been Bobby Parnell, with a 3.38. I just made him the closer.

I put Frank Francisco on the trading block AND dropped him to AAA, along with John Rauch and Ramon Ramirez may soon follow to bring Acosta back up. I just can't find any consistency out of my bullpen. My bullpen currently consists of Miguel Batista, who just gave up 4 ER last outing to jack his ERA up to 6, John Niese (because in the first month he could not find the strike zone), Pedro Beato, DJ Carrasco (both of them I just brought up and they doing well), Ramon Ramirez, Tim Byrdak (who is so sketchy, don't know what to expect with him), and Bobby Parnell. I brought up Familia to take Niese's spot in the rotation because he was tearing up AAA but I don't think he is ready for the MLB after 2 starts so I'm bringing up Chris Young who will make his first start next week. I'm going to have make some type of move for the bullpen, for sure. I'll think about it on the beach

                Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread

In my Franchise with the Brewers, just finished the first regular season. I play 1 game every series and sim the rest. We won the division by 2 games over the Reds with 92 wins and are currently playing the Nationals in the NLDS. The only two moves I made all season were a trade for Jordan Zimmerman and claimed Wade Davis off waivers from the Rays. Ironically, the series is 2-0 in favor of the Brewers (playing every other game in the playoffs). Gallardo went 8 1/3 giving up only 1 run and striking out 9 in the first game of the series and Greinke was solid in the 2nd game. Zimmerman goes back to Washington to try and seal the series for the Brewers and it looks like the winner of the series will have the Braves to see who goes to the World Series.

                  August '12 Update

Just going to do a quick August update since we're getting close to the end of the season. After the season is over I'll have a big review with full stats from every level.

The Mariners, amazingly, are in first place in the surprisingly weak AL West. After a decent August in which they were carried (surprisingly) by their offense, they have a serious shot at making the playoffs.

Felix has still been solid as the ace, Beavan has been solid since being called up, and Noesi has really turned his season around and been a much more reliable option in the rotation. However, Millwood has struggled a bit since returning from the DL and Iwakuma has just been poor. Also, the bullpen has been quite shaky since League and Sherrill were traded.

Offensively, though, this team is coming into their own. Figgins has rebounded from a rough start to be a sparkplug at the top of the order. Getting Carp and Seager back from the DL has been a nice shot in the arm, while Ackley and Smoak continue to be solid in the middle of the order. Belt has been one of the team's better hitters since being acquired and Stewart continues to provide good pop from the left side. Lastly, Montero has continued his HR binge and has a chance to hit 30 this year.

The Pirates, despite maintaining a .500 record, are completely out of the race at this point. They struggled a bit in August, the offense going cold but the pitching staying respectable.

Bedard and Burnett continue to anchor the rotation and Morton continues to bounce back from his subpar start. Friedrich has been almost shockingly good so far and he's definitely making a case to be included in the rotation next season. Even Correia is showing marked improvement, but his future is probably in the bullpen. Speaking of which, the loss of Hanrahan has certainly hurt. Resop saw his ERA skyrocket after a string of poor appearances, but Grilli and Meek have been more or less reliable in the late innings. Watson and Moskos are competing for a spot in the 2013 bullpen as primary lefty, but neither has really distinguished himself. VandenHurk is still showing value as a long/middle reliever.

McCutchen continues to pound the ball and Trumbo has begun to get in on the action as well. McGehee has hit so well off the bench he's really forcing himself into the lineup. Meanwhile, Pedro Alvarez has hit another cold streak and is contributing nearly nothing to the team. Abreu and Barajas have been solid, but neither is really in the team's future plans. As soon as the minor league seasons are over, players like Starling Marte and Tony Sanchez will get a few at-bats in preparation for competing for spots in '13.

Finally got to pick back up on my Yankee Rebuild franchise. I picked up my first win of the season during a series against the Angels. Bullpen almost blew it for me though. My bullpen has been a big problem so far, although i'm only 9 games in. Roberston seems to have the flattest fastball I've ever pitched with in this game. Hitting has been decent so far. Jeter missed the whole series, so I suffered with Ramiro Pena at leadoff. Playing the Twins series over the weekend, hopefully I can come out of it with at least 2 wins.

Ok, so i recently just got back into 12 and have realized what i have missed. anyway, Playing as my fav team the A's, i started out winning game one, going on a seven game losing streak, winning the final game in Seattle, then going into Anaheim and losing the opening game... looking at not trying to start another losing streak..... this might be my ugliest season ever in my baseball video gaming history... Currently 2-8

I trade away Gonzalez, Pedroia and Crawford in favor of Votto, Tulo and youngers... (I did trade Ellsbury for Car-Go but then reversed the trade because it didnt work with my lineup and I wanted to use Kalish... for now...)

                            I've passed the 100-game mark.

Still struggling on offense. The Phillies came in and took 2 of 3 from me. I salvaged the final game with a 2-1 win in 10 innings. Hanson gets no support. He's 7-8 despite an ERA around 3. Lowrie homered in his first game as a Brave at Turner Field, and then went 4-for-4 the next game. So far, so good on that trade. With the deadline two days away, I think I'm set. The Reds have Bill Bray on the block, and I may look into acquiring him.

My Braves are 58-43. The Nats and Phillies are each 2.5 games back. The Cardinals lead the Central with the red-hot Pirates just 2.5 back. The D-Backs have a 2.5 game lead over the Dodgers with the Padres right there too.

In the AL, the Yankees have a 5-game lead on the Red Sox. The Tigers are running away with the Central. The Angels have a slight lead over the Rangers. The Indians have acquired Seth Smith and Francisco Cordero the last two days to try to make a run at the wild card.

On from my last update fictional White Sox:

Okay July 20 overall we are 42-51 8.5 games back of the first place Twins last place AL central (looking back at my progress as GM and trades from last year I may have to fire myself if things don't get better).

                              Trade targets:
July 31 is looming and we have been looking at some external options:

John St. Piere 29 (S) SS Pitt- We need a major league ready shortstop bad. Piere is one of the best fielders in the league has a ton of range and speed. He hits from both sides of the plate and although he is having a down year at .227 we think his speed can be an offensive asset. We have begun preliminary discussions with the third place Pirates.

Edwardo Chaves 22 (S) SS Tex- Okay he is not major league ready and Kelly is our future at short and but Chaves is going to be a star. He projects as hitting for both power and average and has plus speed. His defense needs some work so realistically he will need at least another year in the minors. Although Texas has a glut of shortstop prospects and two productive shortstops in the majors they are going to demand a ton for Chaves.

Mich Evers 27 R C Pitt- Another Pirate. Evers is in the majors and is plus devensivly and already has a good contact bat. I think in time he will develop power as well. This is a future franchise guy behind the plate and needless to say its going to take a bunch to get him but it may be worth it.

Lane Scott 27 LHP Sea- Scott is having a rough go of it in 2012 at 1-7. He looks like another Lopez a lefty with a lot of promise and a lot of work that needs to be done. Nonetheless the Mariners have indicated a willingness to trade him and we may bite.

Richard Key 31 SS R Oak- Key has bounced from triple A to the big club this year in Oakland and is blocked by the A’s allstar shortstop Roberts. He does not have a great bat and our scouts tell me at this point limited upside but he has experience and one of the top gloves in the game.

                              Minor League Observations:
Our prospects continue to develop and I would like to say that Branch, Clark and Yates all figure prominently in our long term plans. Likewise the youngsters O’ Daniel and Ramos have shown ability and continue to progress. Our biggest surprise is probably our double A catcher Jose Jimenez. He has shown substantial progression and our scouts are starting to view him as a long term solution at the position.

Sorta confused on the scouting things. How do you know if someone is gonna be in the draft? Cause I've scouted guys who are like 22-23 and they're not in the draft. They've been on the scouting list for 2-3 seasons and not in the draft.

Also, once the draft is done, all the players who were drafted, are still in the scouting list. So technically, I'm scouting guys already drafted? I can't keep track of who was drafted and who wasn't, so makes it harder to start scouting when half the guys I might be scouting, aren't even in the draft anymore
