    Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread

Hello all, I just wanted to introduce myself before I get started on here. My name is Max, I am a huge baseball fan from New York and have been playing the Show since '09. I have always read these threads for tips and advice but never actually participated. I figure now if I get involved on here it will help me stay motivated with my Yankees Franchise, so here goes. I am using the O.S.F.M. Spring roster to start.

The New York Yankees enter spring 2012 with hopes of rebounding from a 2011 campaign that saw them fall in the ALDS to Detroit 3-2. The Yanks will rely on a greatly improved rotation, a still solid bullpen, and veteran lineup as they look to continue their perennial regular season success.

Projected 25-Man Roster: (with 2011 stats)
    Starters
    1. CC Sabathia (19-8, 230 SO, 3.00 ERA)
    2. Hiroki Kuroda (13-16, 161 SO, 3.07 ERA)
    3. Michael Pineda (9-10, 173 SO, 3.74 ERA)
    4. Ivan Nova (16-4, 98 SO, 3.70 ERA)
    5. Phil Hughes (5-5, 47 SO, 5.79 ERA)

    Bullpen
CP Mariano Rivera (1-2, 44 SV, 60 SO, 1.91 ERA)
SU David Robertson (4-0, 1 SV, 100 SO, 1.08 ERA)
SU Rafael Soriano (2-3, 2 SV, 36 SO, 4.12 ERA)
MRP Pedro Feliciano (Did not pitch - Shoulder Surgery)
MRP Joba Chamberlain (2-0, 24 SO, 2.83 ERA)
MRP Boone Logan (5-3, 46 SO, 3.46 ERA)
LRP Freddy Garcia (12-8, 96 SO, 3.62 ERA)

    Lineup
SS Derek Jeter (.297, 6 HR, 61 RBI, 16 SB)
CF Curtis Granderson (.262, 41 HR, 119 RBI, 25 SB)
    2B Robinson Cano (.302, 28 HR, 118 RBI, 8 SB)
    3B Alex Rodriguez (.276, 16 HR, 62 RBI, 4 SB)
    1B Mark Teixeira (.248, 39 HR, 111 RBI, 4 SB)
RF Nick Swisher (.260, 23 HR, 85 RBI, 2 SB)
DH Andruw Jones (.247, 13 HR, 33 RBI, 0 SB) or
    Raul Ibanez (.245, 20 HR, 84 RBI, 2 SB)
    C Russell Martin (.237, 18 HR, 65 RBI, 8 SB)
LF Brett Gardner (.259, 7 HR, 36 RBI, 49 SB)

    Bench
    C Francisco Cervelli (.266, 4 HR, 22 RBI, 4 SB)
IF Eduardo Nunez (.265, 5 HR, 30 RBI, 22 SB)
OF Andruw Jones / Raul Ibanez
UT Eric Chavez (.263, 2 HR, 26 RBI, 0 SB)

Several minor leaguers round out the 40-man roster and will also be competing for spots. I'll go more in detail as the spring progresses. Top-10 Prospect list to follow...

So, I got pretty tired of my fantasy drafted Phillies franchise mainly because my initial team had too much young, A POT players, and I kind of got tired of it. I am now going to do a regular Phillies franchise where I play every tenth game, and I am going to try to stay dedicated to it. Wish me luck! I will be posting periodic updates here.

        Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread

So I've decided to start using the Blog to get into the nitty gritty details of my Yankees Franchise. I will still post some periodic updates here but the bulk of information will go in the Blog to avoid littering this thread with huge posts. On a second note, I'm thinking of signing 19-year-old Cuban defector OF Jorge Soler to a minor league deal. I'd make him a Right Fielder being that I have little depth at that spot and Nick Swisher is in a contract year. He'd become one of my top 3 prospects along with Manny Banuelos and Dellin Betances (both pitchers).

Swept the Mets (sorry DJ) to get back on track. Phillies took two of three from the Cards, so I only picked up a game. I'm now three up in the East. The Pirates have almost caught up to the Cards in the Central. D-Backs have a two-game lead over the Dodgers in the West.

No apology needed. I root for all you guys to make the playoffs. We all have our favorite teams, and I hold no ill will towards anyone that roots for a rival of one of my favorite teams.

Looking forward to playing more games this week now that I'm back from vacation.

                Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread

Loving the way my Oakland A's franchise is heading... Lots of young, A potential talent starting to hit their early prime. Going to be a fun next few seasons!

I'm in the 2014 season, and here's my team.

                Starting lineup

                Jemile Weeks, 2B
                Colby Rasmus, CF
                Yoenis Cespedes, LF
Brandon Aldrich, 1B (This one's going to be a beast, rookie yr at 23 and batting .350)
                Seth Smith, DH
                Josh Reddick/Michael Taylor, RF
Derek Norris, C (Very happy how this dude's progressing)
Matt Castellanos, 3B (22 year old, A potential)
Fransisco Lindor, SS (23 year old, A potential)

                Pitching Rotation

1- Brett Anderson, A potential, 26 yrs old
2- Brandon McCarthy, 30 years old
                3-Jarrod Parker, A potential, 25 yrs old
4- Jhourys Chacin, A potential, 26 yrs old
5- Kyle Drabek, B potential, 26 years old

In Triple A, I got A.J. Cole, A potential, blossoming into a beast down there. Probably going to call him up if there's an injury this season, or wait until next season when he's nice and ready.

The future is looking bright for me, already ranked 11th overall team and fighting for first and my teams average age is probably around 25-26, so we're only going to get better! This is my first competitive franchise team in The Show, and I'm having a blast with it. A's definitely had some good core young guys to work with. Hopefully I see a World Series in my future!

Finally got my sliders right where i want them and did a Royals fantasy draft this morning with Scott's roster with the rule that I could only draft guys 25 and under. Team looks like this:
                  Spoiler

Liked the team so much that I started up a regular franchise and recreated it by trading all of the actual Royals for them. Ranked 10th overall, 18th batting, 2nd pitching, 3rd defense. Used Mike Olt for myself (Rangers are even scarier with Hosmer now). Should be fun. Playing my first game against Pujols, Weaver, and the Angels later.

                    Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread

Just made a new Red Sox franchise with Scotts new roster update...
I simmed to 2013, making sure I won the 2012 WS(because I just finished winning it in my last franchise, I wanted to continue with new rosters)
I made some moves including trading away: Beckett, Lackey and Ross(after resigning him)
I acquired: Justin Masterson, Trevor Plouffe and Matt LaPorta... I also signed Juan Pierre...
Other than that, my team is pretty much the same...
                    Here's my Lineup:
                    CF Ellsbury
                    2B Pedroia
                    1B Gonzalez
                    DH Ortiz
                    3B Middlebrooks
                    C Saltalamacchia
                    RF/SS Plouffe
                    LF Crawford
                    SS Aviles/RF Kalish(Platoon)

                    Bench:C-Lavarnway, SS-Ciriaco, OF-Kalish/SS Aviles(Platoon), UTIL-Vacant

Rotation:Lester, Buchholz, Masterson, Doubront, Matt Barnes(Im giving him a shot)

                    Bullpen:CL-Bailey, SU-Aceves, MR-Hill, Bard, Breslow, Melancon, LR-Morales

                      2012 Cincinnati Reds

Finished 1st in Central with a (89-73) record.

                      Lineup
                      2B Brandon Phillips .283/24/87
                      SS Zack Cozart .236/9/44
                      1B Joey Votto .313/23/62
                      LF Chris Heisey/Ryan Ludwick .277/25/71 .282/8/33
                      RF Jay Bruce .273/29/98
                      3B Scott Rolen .271/14/45
                      C Ryan Hanigan .273/7/58
                      CF Drew Stubbs .268/22/65

                      Bench
LF Eric Hinske (acquired from braves) .288/5/28
                      C Devin Mesoraco .259/6/25
                      SS Wilson Valdez .245/3/25
                      3B Todd Frazier .265/5/22

                      Rotation
                      Johnny Cueto 3.71 17-9
                      Mat Latos 4.07 13-13
Matt Garza (acquired from cubs) 3.75 12-9
                      Bronson Arroyo 3.54 13-11
                      Homer Bailey 3.52 10-7

                      Closer
                      Aroldis Chapman 3.49 51 SV

The team had a very up and down year due to many injuries. Votto was out for over a month. Leake and Bailey both went down for an extended period of time. I made 3 trades during the season, Broxton from the Royals, Hinske from the Braves and Garza from the Cubs. I expect Broxton and Garza to be rentals. Currently we are up 2-1 to the Giants in the NLDS. I will post updates after a few more games.

I try to play one game about every five during the season and every playoff game.

                        Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread

First 3 games in my Semi-Fantasy Royals franchise went well!

                        Game 1:

Began as a pitcher's duel, with both pitchers keeping the other teams off the board through the first 2, until Chris Ianetta took Chris Sale deep on a hanging changeup. Score remained the same until the 8th when Jered Weaver walked the leadoff batter and was pulled from the game. Royals jumped on the Angels pen for 5 runs between the 8th and 9th, and the bullpen shut the door. Chris Sale's 3rd inning mistake was his only, holding the Angels to 1 run on 1 hit and 8 strikeouts in 7 innings to get his first win of the season.

                        Game 2:

Royals jumped all over Dan Haren in the 1st inning, scoring 6 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks, led by Mike Trout leading off the game with a walk and walking again later in that same inning. Royals continued to punish Angels pitching to the tune of 13 runs on 17 hits and 6 walks to win this one easy 13-4. Tommy Hanson didn't have to pitch particularly well to get the win, but he finished with a line of 7 innings, 6 hits, 5 K's, and 2 runs allowed, including a home run to Albert Pujols.

                        Game 3:

Angels struck back for their previous day beating against Matt Moore, scoring 3 runs in the first inning on 5 hits and 2 walks. Score remained 3-0 until the Royals scored 1 run in the 7th. Ervin Santana shut down Royals hitting, allowing only 4 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings with 8 K's. The Royals scored again the 8th and had a good shot to score in the 9th when Jordan Walden walked Will Middlebrooks and Anthony Rizzo back to back with only 1 out. Pinch runner Billy Hamilton was shown the difference between big league catchers and minor league catchers as he was thrown out at 3rd for the 2nd out of the inning in his first career stolen base attempt. Steve Lombardozzi struck out looking to end the game.

The 2-1 Royals travel to Oakland to take on the 2-1 Athletics, with the probable starters in Game 1 being Neftali Feliz (Royals) and Tyson Ross takes the mound for the home team.

Started a Fantasy Draft franchise last week with Scott's ZiPS Deadline Set and I'm playing every game as the Angels. Just finished up the first week (9 games) with a 6-3 mark and a 1.5 game lead on the Rangers and Mariners.

                          Games
4/6 vs Royals: Brett Anderson vs Felix Hernandez

Got to King Felix early and often and scored 7 runs in 2/3 of an inning and Felix's night was done. Pierzynski and Boesch had HR's and Rizzo, Jones, Pierzynski, and Boesch drove in the runs. Anderson pitched 8 innings of 6 hit, 3 run ball.
                          9-3 Angels

4/7 vs Royals: Matt Harvey vs Jake Peavy

Peavy shut us down. Held us to 8 innings of 5 hit, 1 run ball. We almost completed the comeback, but fell one run short. Kipnis had a HR and Jones had a RBI double.
                          3-2 Royals

4/8 vs Royals: Clay Buchholz vs Michael Pineda

Was 6-0 Angels going into the 7th when the Royals loaded the bases and Buchholz was chased from the game. Bastardo came in and gave up a two run single to Scott Podsednik. He then got the next two on a K and a foul out and walked the next one to load the bases for Vernon Wells who crushed all series (5-8 with two HR's). The first pitch, Bastrdo got him to ground out right back to him and it was smooth sailing the rest of the way. Rizzo had two HR's.
                          6-2 Angels

4/9 @ Twins: Bronson Arroyo vs Brandon McCarthy

Had a 5-2 lead going into the 8th and the bullpen blew it. Frasor gave up three and Clippard gave up another two. Probably the hardest loss of the season so far. CarGo hit a opposite field grandslam in the second that should have been enough to win.
                          6-5 Twins

4/11 @ Twins: Brad Hand vs Todd Redmond

Redmond was terrible giving up 5 runs and 10 hits in 4 innings and left us in a 5-0 hole. For some reason, Hand was dealing and mystifying out batters until the 6th where we scratched on a run, but the Twins cam back and scored another two in the bottom of the 6th. Then we cam back and scored 4 runs in the 7th and another 2 in the 8th. It was tied 7-7 til the 10th when CarGo came up and hit a two run jack to center (his 2nd) for the lead and to clinch a win.
                          9-7 Angels

4/12 @ Twins: Cliff Lee vs Brett Anderson

Anderson started us in a whole giving up 5 runs before he could even get an out. He recovered eventually and was able to throw 7 innings and kept them at 5 the whole time. In the mean time, we were only able to get 4 hits all game. Rizzo had a HR and 3 RBI.
                          5-3 Twins

4/13 @ Yankees: Joe Saunders vs Matt Harvey

Harvey pitched 6 2/3 innings of 7 hit, 4 run ball and we were led by 4 HR's (Jones, Gonzalez, Rizzo, Boesch). Jose Bautista of the Yankees also hit two HR's including a 451 foot shot into left field off of a hanging Matt Harvey slider.
                          8-4 Angels

4/14 @ Yankees: Lance Lynn vs Clay Buchholz

It was 8-1 by the end of the 4th and we never let off the gas. Lynn only survived 3 innings of this massacre. Gonzalez hit a HR and Rizzo had another game of two HR's and completed his streak of a HR in three straight games. Buchholz was only able to pitch 6 innings because of a high pitch count and left with a commanding lead. Rizzo had 5 RBI.
                          14-1 Angels

4/15 @ Yankees: Edwin Jackson vs Brandon McCarthy

It was quiet for the first two innings until we pushed across a run in the third. Then we scored another in the fourth, and then exploded for 4 in the fifth. Our defense let them back in it and was 6-4 after 6, but we finished them with 8 runs in the last three innings and completed the sweep in New York. Jones, Pierzynski, and Kipnis all had 4 hits. Pierzynski also had two HR's and drove in 5 RBI. Simmons had the boxscore of the night by going 0-2 with 2 K's, but also 3 BB.
                          14-6 Angels

                          Who's Hot
CarGo: Started the year 0-7 for 7, and then just went off. In his 7 game hitting streak, he hit .607/.700/1.214 with 6 HR and 13 RBI. Also has 7 SB and leads the league.

Rizzo: "Only" hit .282, but has 6 jacks and 13 RBI and is tied for the league lead with Gonzalez in both categories. He does strike out a bit, but what do you expect from a 22 year old. Also, he went through a stretch where he hit 4 HR's in three games and has two 2 HR games.

Pierzynski: Hitting .389 and is third in the AL with 11 RBI. Providing solid production from a position that is used to light hitting players. Also had a 2 HR game.

Jones: Before the Yankee series started on the 13th, Jones was hitting .240 from the clean up hole and was not getting it done. However, Kipnis wasn't producing and I moved him up to the lead off position for the series. He didn't look back. In a three game series, he went 8-14 with 2 HR's and 8 RBI. It's looking like he'll be staying in the lead off hole.

Boesch: Started the Yankees series with a .222 average and ended it with a .393. Enough said. His two HR's were aided by the short porch, but has moved into the two hole after Simmons struggles and has become a solid piece.

Buchholz: Solid in both of his starts going 6 innings and 2 earned runs allowed in the first and 6 innings and 1 earned run in the second. Even though he's giving up some hits, he's stranding the runners which is what you want. Sporting a 2.25 ERA.

McCarthy: Another solid starter in his two starts. In his first, he went 7 innings and left leaving a 5-2 lead. He got a ND and the bullpen blew it. In his second start, he was perfect through 3 and was going good til the 7th. Two errors occurred and he left the game giving up 4 runs and 1 earned. Has a 2.08 ERA.

                          Who's Not
Simmons: Started the year in the two hole and now has slipped to the 9 hole. Had a ok last game against the Yankees where he drew 3 walks, but finished with 2 K's. Hitting .143 against RHP and has a .207 average.

Kipnis: Started the year as the lead off hitter and did terribly hitting .167 and eventually moved to the 8 hole before the Yankees series. Only reason he has a .257 average is because he went 4-5 in the last game.

Frasor: Has pitched 3 innings and has given up 2 HR's and 4 ER's total. Not a winning strategy for a reliever. RHB hitting .750 off him.

                          Probables for the Week Ahead

4/16 vs A's: Todd Redmond vs Jameson Tallion
4/17 vs A's: Brett Anderson vs Hiroki Kuroda
4/18 vs A's: Matt Harvey vs Daniel Hudson

Started a Marlins franchise this week. With some help from some members here I am finally able to develop players properly and also draft a little better, thus making it my most successful franchise yet. I normally win one WS every 5-6 years, but so far I've won it 3 times in 4 years.

Was able to have good veterans hold down spots on the team while my players developed in the minors. Currently in the 2017 Playoffs. Going to let Reyes walk in free agency as his numbers have considerably dropped. Hanley will stay as his stats seem to go up every year (hit like .308 with 30 HRs in 2017, compared to .260-something for Reyes).

Timed the development of Profar perfectly. He just hit an "A" overall. Still improving as well. Great defensively, although his offense could use a little work.

Also ended up drafting a Tony Gwynn clone one of those years in the 2nd round. Right now he's a B overall, A potential, 24 years old, with 92/83 contact R/L and in the 50-60 power range. Still getting better every year too. Have him locked into a 10yr/33M deal...hahahah. Hasn't hit the big leagues yet as I have Morrison (routinely .300+, 30-40 HRs), Stanton (.265+ 38-45 HRs), and Yelich (just hitting his prime. Jumped up to an A surprisingly in time for last year's world series run. Traded for an aging Cabrera at last years deadline with a couple A prospects. He's turned out great so far, but I'll have to move him in a year or two. Brought Mike Olt up at age 26 (took my time moving him up), and it paid off in the form of a .270 avg and 45 HRs in the first year, and a .275 avg and 35 HRs in the next.

                            Current lineup and rotation:

                            Reyes/Profar SS
                            Ramirez DH
                            M Cabrera 1B
                            Stanton RF
                            Morrison LF
                            Olt 3B
                            Yelich CF
Rendon 2B (converted to his secondary position, from 3B to 2B)
                            Wieters C

                            Pineda
                            Teheran
                            Bundy
                            Taijuan Walker
                            Brandon Morrow

                            Closer: Storen

Drafts are far more fun now that I know how to scout. Hoping to snag a star or two in the upcoming draft with my late first rounder and the supplemental first from letting Reyes walk.

Finally having some fun in franchise mode! Yes, I play with DH on in the NL. I'm an AL guy. Just wanted to try out the sweet Marlins unis and stadium.

(I play about 10-15 games per year, and every other playoff game. More of a GM than a player)

I have to admit, winning the world series 4 times in 3 years is very impressive...

I just finished up a doozey of a course for school, and now I have a two week break. I am going to start a new season mode. I tried franchise, but it was difficult not getting into the team in real depth.

My plan is to only bat, and play all games in April and September. I'll simulate the dog days. Doing this with 100 players in an organization to keep track of is difficult, but with 40 it should be much more manageable.

I'm also going to keep the difficulty on pro. I don't play often enough, nor have the reflexes to be any good. I tried bumping it up to all star and I just had no fun with pitchers making me look stupid every single at bat.

I'm hoping to start tonight, maybe when the wife falls asleep.
