mva5580 you are absolutely right there is lag on higher definition tv even with the gamemode option, i have a 24 inch lcd screen and it is like night and day trust me people there is lag on some hdtv even with the game mode feature i play on hall of fame with my 24 inch lcd the timing is just better..alot of people wont realize that there always late on most fast balls thats why you see so much opposite field hits homeruns ......they should have some type of calibration like rock band.
This game absolutely, 100% *needs* a "calibrate lag" feature

Re: This game absolutely, 100% *needs* a "calibrate lag" feature
I would imagine it's infinitely easier to add a calibration feature in games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero since the entire premise of the game is timing/rhythm. Swinging early/late in a baseball game is a valid part of hitting in real life. But if that's the case, then why does Rock Band have a calibrate lag feature? My TV does have a "PC" input....but it has to be VGA.
All I'm trying to say is that I see this as a legitimate "issue" in 2 games that I play. And I play a lot.
Rock Band
MLB The Show
That's it. To the point of where it's extremely noticeable if I switch displays where as other games, it's pretty much non-existent. And as I said before if I'm having this issue, with a relatively new 46" Sony Bravia LCD, then I'm sure there are many other people experiencing the same thing. And they may not even realize it.
Did you at least try what I suggested?Comment

Re: This game absolutely, 100% *needs* a "calibrate lag" feature
I agree. Game Mode most definitely does not solve the lag issue on many tvs.
I have a Samsung and I found some setting from 2009 from a poster called Guru that work the best. Can't find the link, but in a nutshell he has you set output to 1080p only and use the PC input mode.Comment

Strange, I have a 46 Sony Bravia and have no lag at all. Turn on Game Mode in the advanced settings. Turn off everything else: Noise Reduction, Contrast Enhancer, Gama, Clear White, Live Color, CineMotion...Oakland Athletics San Jose Sharks

Re: This game absolutely, 100% *needs* a "calibrate lag" feature
I might have fixed my issue I’m now early on the accuracy zone and seem to be hitting better.
Here is what I changed on my TV:
<O
Menu > Settings > Game Mode - On
<O
Menu > Picture > More > Advanced Picture
<O
Smooth motion effect - “High”
<O
</O
Real cinema mode - “Smooth”
<O
</O
I tried a couple of innings and it seems better actually I now have to completely adjust the other way now I am way ahead on the accuracy mark. But I’ll have to fully test this out tomorrow.<O

Re: This game absolutely, 100% *needs* a "calibrate lag" feature
Make sure ALL "enhanced" options are OFF for your TV. Any autmotion plus features, DNR, etc.
Secondly, make sure "Game Mode" is ON, obviously.
Lastly, force your PS3 to output The Show in 1080p by unchecking the 720p option. This way your TV won't have to do any scaling to the image either, and let the PS3 output at 1080p.Comment

Re: This game absolutely, 100% *needs* a "calibrate lag" feature
I have a 15" Samsung. Game mode or not, I absolutely crush the ball on Hall of Fame level. On my newer 40" Samsung, game mode or not, I can scratch together 2-3 opposite field singles per game. Only when I manually turn everything off (another post showed me how), does my hitting improve. But nothing like the 15".I have it [game mode] turned on, and it doesn't make any difference. The same was true with Rock Band. Couldn't hit a lot of the notes before I calibrated, after I did I could handle Expert difficulty level.
I wouldn't make a post about it if it wasn't so severe, and also if the post that I made earlier wasn't full of other people talking about having to turn the pitch speed down the same way I *thought* I needed to do to be competitive in this game. But it's not the pitch speed, at all. This game has a pretty high level of requirement in terms of hitting timing and if you've got a TV with this kind of input lag.....forget about it. And it's not like I have some off-brand piece of junk, I mean Sony Bravia's are pretty good TV's. I play A LOT of video games on this TV, and Rock Band & MLB The Show are the only 2 games where this is even a factor for me.Originally posted by banned memberMy [RTTS] goals are to improve my bunting and drag bunting. Re: This game absolutely, 100% *needs* a "calibrate lag" feature
I think I'm having the same issue. Can't hit an inside fastball to save my life. When I used to play '10 over my buddies house we had one hd tv and one standard and the difference was night and day. I'll have to try some different settings tomorrow when I play.Comment

Re: This game absolutely, 100% *needs* a "calibrate lag" feature
I had a huge lag problem at first when I bought my Samsung HD TV, and this is how I solved it:
1) locate the HDMI port which reads HDMI/DVI, connect the PS3 video cable there
2) Set the input source of that port to PC
Lag gone....
Hope your Sony tv lets you do that....Comment

Re: This game absolutely, 100% *needs* a "calibrate lag" feature
How would lag calibration work without looking ridiculous?
I can think of three ways to do it but they all are totally unrealistic.
The pitch could magically slow down after you pressed the swing button.
Or, the batter could be allowed to make contact with a pitch that is already past him.
Or, you could have skipped swing animation frames. Ie press the swing button and the batter is in his followthrough,Comment

Re: This game absolutely, 100% *needs* a "calibrate lag" feature
Thanks for the info in this thread, guys. I agree, a lag calibration would be awesome. I have a 72" Mitsubishi and I was about to lose my mind on this. I've played the Show for many years now (with this TV or one similar), but I have not been able to hit at all this year. I was beginning to think it was just me getting older and not having the reflexes anymore.
I can't tell you how many times I've swung right through a pitch, all the while saying "I know I was right on that one", only to see 'Just Late' in the swing analysis.Comment
