It's when the player decides(but forgets to tell you!) that he doesn't want...a long term deal for XXX dollars per....he'll try to get his payday later.

I just tried again...and if you lower the years...and increase the $$....they seem to go for the deal(like tabarnes was saying).
The only "bug(s)" are that 1-the player is giving you bad info on his initial salary demand(saying he wants 5 at 20 mil....when he wants 2 at 12 mil or more years but much bigger bucks)...and 2-not prompting you that the offer is insufficient(that's never been in....it should be I agree)...letting you know to go in and give him the renewable contract instead(so he can take his chances later on a big money deal).
Figure this...if you don't get an "answer"(so and so has signed)....after 2 weeks of offering....you've got to go in and change the offer. At some point in February.....you've got to give him a renewable contract if he hasn't accepted any of your deals for regular contracts.

Perfect explanation, I'm going to try this. I'm assuming the date for the "renew" option is the 28th, which is the very last day until everyone you haven't agreed with hits the FA pool and the next day ST starts. If this works, franchise mode for me is saved because my budget was getting killed. I didn't mean to sensationalize the topic, it was seriously making it unplayable for me and I seriously had ZERO idea there was another option on a specific date to hit renew. I tried everything else, including less years at the money, but some still wouldn't sign. I literally had 26 players whose contracts began as 1/1's and 20 of them are fairly big names in the real world, so they were demanding 8, 9, 10x the original salary. For the Jays, that adds up real quick.

EDIT: The player progression/regression system is a little flawed too, which hurts franchise mode, but that's a different topic.

Has any one simmed 4-5 years into the franchise mode yet to ensure that the free agent list is not an allstart team because every team is broke from paying their younger players with zero experience. Based off Forza's information about what young players are demanding, I see trouble on the horizon. After 4-5 young guys cant be renewed, and if they refuse long term deals to keep salary down, then it sounds like teams are going to be broke very soon, recreating the problem from the last 2(!!!) years.

I havent bought the game yet, waiting to see if franchise is playable. Sounds ok so far, but I dont think the game has been out long enough to decide.

I've gone 10 plus years numerous times. All good. That's why I was confused in this thread system works as intended now.

Thanks Tabarnes and Knight, there is a renew option. Now if they could only fix the progression system so that Votto doesn't lose -2 everywhere after the first season despite hitting .335 with 43 jacks

That is certainly great news. So the free agent list, after the start of the season, looks as it should, you are able to make trades with teams because they dont have a negative balance on the budget, and you have not hat to use 30 team control to accomplish this?

To be honest I like the regression this year. Stats are misleading sometimes. Age plays a more prominent role. When you get older you get slower lose some power gain some weight. . . He'll still hit well the next season. Without that regression he will still be hitting 40 and hitting. 330 when he is 40.

It is MUCH better this year, the last two years, it was A LOT worse. I also think the drafting is a bit better this year, there's actually players with decent speed. My other concern though is that they took out the traditional scouting reports on the player card.

This is all nice but i still think that it is not normal to have to renegociate with all of these players. i have simmed one year with Tampa Bay and was left with 5 players at the end of the year. I will make some research but i would be surprised to see that only 5 players are signed for more than 1 year.

They are in real life. Until they have 6 years MLB time...or had been signed to a long term deal..they are year to year.

If you want....swap them back and forth with the Free Agent list 3 and get them a multiple year deal. You won't have to worry about it then.

This real life scenario is exactly why the Rays give their young stars (IE Longoria) 7 year contracts while they are still "under team control." In reality they are paying more for the "renewal" years which is usuall 2 or 3 but saving a boat load in the final years of the contracts had those players hit the open market. It is also a reason that "prospects" in video game world won't accept long term deals. They will sacrifice money now for a big pay day in 2 to 3 years.

I think this entire thread sprung up due to people thinking contracts in baseball playout like contracts in the NFL and particularly in Madden. It is a completely different animal and can get confusing sometimes.

When they took out the legends, the extra spaces were added as free agent lists. On FA list 3 there is a "bug" whereby if you swap a player from the roster to that list-then back he will be given a random contract. This only works in the front menu roster management....

Does anyone know why we're not able to have editing capabilities over contracts?

Is it a licensing issue with the MLBPA?
