I think this entire thread sprung up due to people thinking contracts in baseball playout like contracts in the NFL and particularly in Madden. It is a completely different animal and can get confusing sometimes.
The reason I created the thread was because I didn't know how to use those team-controlled renewal years because I never saw a prompt. I would offer contracts to EVERYone, then sim, but I didn't know that on Feb 28th (last day of off-season) there was a new option when you click on renewable players to simply renew them for cheap, as I expected to be able to do. The game should've done a better job IMO of explaining the option on the 28th. They mention you can renew them or sign a long term deal, but it doesn't mention the date where the renewal option springs up. Thanks to users here I found out how to do it

Not to sound flippant, but I bet this makes franchise feel like a whole new experience now? I'm glad we could help. I was nervous when I saw this thread because this year I think SCEA did a great job with financials in the off season. Probably some places that "SMALL" tweaks in the future but otherwise solid....

I agree that there needs to be better feedback though, for all aspects of Franchise, while at CD they made some changes to text from the cpu explaining why they were rejecting a trade. More prompts and explanations.

They should probably have tips that can be toggled off, during the off season, because I know they want to make the game more accessible.

You bet, it's saved the entire mode for me. I seriously couldn't keep my players thinking I HAD to sign them to big money or lose them

The trading feedback this year IS better and it helps.

Me too! I didn't know if there was a fix for this. I thought it would make Franchise Mode highly frustrating. I am glad there there is a way to handle it.

I am guessing that the CPU logic is solid, too? There are so many 1/1 guys in the game, guys who won't enter free agency in real life for another three or four years... Does the CPU do a good job in not letting these guys get away?

Yes!! In the past few versions the computer would just release some of those guys. Now the cpu renews them for low salary. You should not see prospects in Free agency this year like in the past.

The renewing of players has been in every version of the Show since they added it and for human players it has worked correctly. I'll forward it along to Ramone that maybe for next year they add messages and prompts for people that are either learning about baseball financials or to get a handle on how this system works.

Tabarnes.......can you explain any of the changes or modifications you have made in Franchise over the course of 2 or 3 years in the future to keep the budgetary side of things right.

As I've explained before, my main problem is too much surplus money during the first year and first offseason. In your opinion, what is the best way to counteract this?

I don't bother with it to be honest. I would rather have a little extra money and restrict myself from going crazy signing everyone, because in a few years budgets get tighter.

Plus...if you feel like you really need to handcuff yourself with the budget...you could simply resign one or two players to mega deals.

I'm glad this got worked out....
tabarnes and I spent a ton of time trying to help Aaron and Brent(SCEA) get to the bottom of a lot of the things that were causing budget problems for the past few years.
They were so patient with our constant buzzing back and forth....that I was afraid something was amiss....badly. I'm glad it just a minor non-notification rather than something out of whack.
                  Whew!

Sorry for the scare. I'm a new member and I wasn't aware you and tabarnes are actually in contact with SCEA and work with them. I know you guys do the roster updates which is wicked, but I didn't know you worked so closely with them. Apologies for the confusion, I was extremely frustrated because as everyone knows if the game WERE to force big money contracts for renewables that would be absolutely killer.

Again, thanks for the prompt and excellent help, really sorted my game out and I can thoroughly enjoy 'chise again. Thanks guys

Just remember also that there are explanations for important dates when ever there is a star on the calendar as well as a transaction handbook and the email about important dates that explains when, how and why these things take place...it is in the game..just have to look for it. I found it helpful for what super 2's type A's and B free agents as well as the contract renewal business
