No problem.
I couldn't tell if you were breaking balls.

I control all teams (sorta) Cept for setting lineups to manual. No line up issues here.

Re: Lineup logic still needs a lot of work
I've learned my lesson on making stupid comments on this forum.
But back to the topic at hand, to me it doesn't seem like its too big of an issue. If Todd Helton's hitting 8th against lefties, its not even close to being a game-killer for me. Now if other, more valuable stars were out of order that would kind of take away from the game for me.Comment

Re: Lineup logic still needs a lot of work
Werth hitting leadoff isn't totally out of the question. He bat in the leadoff spot in 12 games last year.I don't have the game in front of me at the moment, but if their real life stats are anything close to their in game attributes then a case can be made for them hitting lead off.
Beltran was 7th in the NL in OBP last year, and Werth is top ten in bases on balls in the NL the past three years. Werth can also steal a bag for you on occasion, and won't get thrown out doing so (top 10 SB% in the NL the last four years).
I don't know, you're gonna have to cite more than these three questionable examples if you want to make a case.
Not sayin' it ain't so, but I'm not convinced at this point.Comment

Re: Lineup logic still needs a lot of work
Now I have never played a franchise in The Show so i am just a curious outsider. Are there surprise season's in the game? Are there breakouts and busts? And most importantly, does the game take the current performance into account when setting a lineup?I'M NOT LOOKING AT NAMES. I'm looking at the ATTRIBUTES of Todd Helton. I don't understand how many times I have to say this (it's in my initial post too). There is no reason a player with Todd Helton's ATTRIBUTES should be hitting 8th. Lineup logic is simple enough to not have such gross mistakes.
I think you could probably say there is no reason a player with Carl Crawford's attributes should be hitting 8th. But he did in real life because he sucked at the time.
I'm just curious if how the players are currently performing play any role in the way the CPU sets lineups. I think it would be incredible if a closer could lose his job for blowing games or if Todd Helton batted 8th because he was in a slump.Good job! Good effort!Comment

Re: Lineup logic still needs a lot of work
this had me laughing so hard lol...Do you read anything before posting?
I'm being 100% serious with that question.
In another thread....I write "there is no reason not to use 30 team control...it's exactly the same as using single team control ....EXCEPT for the draft...that's going to be more work for you"
In the very next post...you quote me ..and say...
"What about the draft?"
I don't know if you think you're being funny, or if you really just don't get it.
We....are having a decent discussion in here.
If you're going to participate....get up to speed!

as for your comment to the 30 team draft...i know this is about lineups but i'll get to it if you let me..what i did last yr was do a 30 team draft and i went by position by position and draft each position all at once right in order..the complete draft took me 20 mins to do and each team in the league was pretty even...
as for lineups...i would only worry about the cpu lineup that i was facing that day...my experience was that each team lineups were pretty reasonable although of course there was exceptions...i am pretty big on realism but i understand that this is a video game and plus im doing a FANTASY draft...nobody does a yahoo fantasy team base on what there lineup would be like! cmon ppl!!..haha anyhow, im sorry this post went on for as long as it did but i had no problem doing a 30 team draft...Comment

Re: Lineup logic still needs a lot of work
To be honest, as a big baseball fan (especially the AL, as I am one of those huge Yankees fans), some of the lineups that the cpu comes up with are a little disappointing when you look at the names and their "normal" spots in the batting order. However, I completely understand that the cpu uses attributes, not names, to come up with a lineup. So definately not a game-breaker for me.
However, I am suprised that A-Rod is slotted in the 2nd spot in the order. He rarely steals a base anymore, his power numbers and BA are declining, is 37 years old, dumped by Cameron Diaz and is injury prone. I haven't looked up the attributes, but I was wondering if a guy like even Russell Martin would be a better fit for the 2-hole.
And can anyone tell me why Gardner and Joba are in the minors? Is it because they were injured late last season? Or do players like Ibanez, Wade and Aardsma have better attributes?
Now for my "dumb questions". I have played this game since 2007 and have always played season mode. I guess I have always thought franchise mode would be too complicated and time-consuming (budgets, promotions, advertising, etc) for an old guy like me. I just want to press the "X" button to hit and not have to think about the other stuff that comes with franchise. I always manage my roster/lineups for my Yankees and the NL team I am playing a season with and leave the other 29 teams to the cpu.
Questions: Can I somehow set the lineups for all 30 teams in season-mode? How do I do it (really dumb it down for me please)? Once I have set the lineups, does the cpu then manage things like injuries and giving players a day off when they need it or does the cpu keep putting the same guys in the lineup everyday for the other 29 teams? I thought I saw in one of the menus where controlling all 30 teams affects injuries somehow - please explain?
The one thing that bothers me more then the lineups is the in-game management by the cpu. I haven't played enough games this year to have an example, but I remember a few instances last year. One example is that I was playing as the Brewers and in a real tight extra inning game. Late in the game the starting catcher was removed for a pinchrunner. The next inning the backup catcher comes in to the game. So far so good. The game continues and the backup catcher comes up to bat and either gets a single or a walk. He is then pulled and pinchran for by someone like Dewayne Wise. Then the next inning Dewayne Wise is the catcher. Obviously hasn't caught an inning in his pro career. I win the game that inning thanks to a few passed balls and 2 stolen bases. Kind of ruined the game for me - as obviously IRL the backup catcher wouldn't have been pulled from the game.
Thanks, in advance, for your responses and for helping me out.Comment

Re: Lineup logic still needs a lot of work
i'm wondering if todd helton batting 8th even really matters, at the end of a season or a year within a franchise, does todd helton have the normal numbers he puts up in a real life season? if so, who cares, right? if it's all pretty damn close real stats, then just get your show on!!, but better lineup logic would be better lolComment

Re: Lineup logic still needs a lot of work
Answers in bold...Now I have never played a franchise in The Show so i am just a curious outsider. Are there surprise season's in the game? Are there breakouts and busts?
Absolutely...but not in as far as ratings....but the performance can vary greatly from "the norm". In that regard there are definitely bust years and breakout years. They are not all over the place...but they are there.
And most importantly, does the game take the current performance into account when setting a lineup?
I think this would be a bad idea...and from the looks of this thread...so do a lot of others.
It doesn't...on current performance in regards to stats....but..if players are relatively close...and the training/coaching/"hot/cold" streak kicks in....the ratings in the game do fluctuate, so you could see a "cold" player get moved down in the lineup for a "hot" player if the ratings move to cause that. At least it has in the past.
I think you could probably say there is no reason a player with Carl Crawford's attributes should be hitting 8th. But he did in real life because he sucked at the time.
I'm just curious if how the players are currently performing play any role in the way the CPU sets lineups. I think it would be incredible if a closer could lose his job for blowing games or if Todd Helton batted 8th because he was in a slump.

Re: Lineup logic still needs a lot of work
The other issue with breakout or busts seasons is that people will complain that the performances are not realistic.
How many times do we see people upset over end of season stats because they don't closely match what they perceive to be the abilities of a particular player?
Some people don't care what the stats look like. To them, it's another universe, another game world. Some of the people want things to be a close representation or a carbon copy.
I get both sides of the argument, but it's incredibly difficult (read: impossible) to satisfy both sides of the argument."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: Lineup logic still needs a lot of work
I've moved Jeter to 8th-9th a couple times and sat/moved people like Cano and even Arod during thier "I couldn't hit the side of a barn with a nuclear weapon" streaks.
So what the CPU does is far from my concern or me judging them.
I just look at it like "Hey they run their team and I'll run mine." and have fun with it.Joshua:
