Hey guys! I’ll be getting some more games posted shortly. We have had company for several days. It’s been a good break but I am itching to get back on the mound. I will be hitting the mid-season mark next game, then it’s on to the second act!

Finally finished up a great series with the Mets. Once again hit and scoring variety were great with Pirate runs coming for 3 singles, a double, and a 2-run home run. I have to say I continue to be impressed with hit variety with solid hits at 4. Saw a few more looping. More games to go for the sample but the drop does not seem to be affect hit percentages all, but rather creating more interesting types of hits.

Pirates headed out west next.

Also wanted to add, if you are looking for a team to play with, maybe give the Mets a go. I really enjoyed the stadium aesthetics, including nice hitting views where sunshine does not interfere in the early innings. The field dimensions also seem pretty open, which lends itself to some majestic looking extra base hits. The stadium lighting is really nice.

I also felt the hitters are strong but not over-powered and the pitching staff is not overly dominant but good at pitching to contact and making clutch plays. This seems like an all-around solid mid-tier team to try if you are looking for a rebuild.

Garrett Cole gave up one hit and Sean Rodriguez hit one to the third deck of the Western Metal building as Pirates take game one in SD 4-3. Pitching as a team was pretty spotty as I walked six batters and Vasquez always seems to work out of 9th inning jams lately, but i’ll take my third in a row gladly. Archer up next.

I’m playing the Cubs and after a season playing the Yankees with the DH I haven’t experienced this before. The Braves were batting in the 6th inning in a tied game with 2 on and 2 out. The pitcher was due up and they let him hit for himself. Thought it was a gutsy call but let it go. He grounded out and the next inning they put a new pitcher in to start the inning.

I’m playing the Cubs and after a season playing the Yankees with the DH I haven’t experienced this before. The Braves were batting in the 6th inning in a tied game with 2 on and 2 out. The pitcher was due up and they let him hit for himself. Thought it was a gutsy call but let it go. He grounded out and the next inning they put a new pitcher in to start the inning.

Surprised he didn’t go yard on ya! At the beginning of the season I pitched to pitchers like I expected them to be an easy out. I know better now and pitch them as hard or harder than the rest of the hitters.

It’s funny you say that. Just the other day I was thinking...geez these pitchers are batting .800 against me. Wacha from the Cardinals had a triple and a single in the game.

I just had a 9 game home stand at Wrigley Field and that wind makes the game change. I had 2 games with the wind blowing out at 14 mph and there were 7 HR that game and 5 the other game. I had two games that the wind was blowing in like at 13 mph and only 1 HR between both teams those 2 games. And you can see the wind knock would be home runs down. And even the announcers commented about the wind blowing in.

The Cubs start the season 13-6 batting .257 with an ERA of 3.38. Off to Colorado and Cleveland for a short 5 game road trip. Will put some more stats up once I get 30 games in. Using the exact sliders as the OP.

Sweep!

I turned in three (reasonably) strong pitching performances in SD to leave town with a sweep. I was able to use Cole,Archer and Musgrove in the 1-2-3 so it is a nice preview of what a playoff rotation could look like. But it was only the Friars so...

LAD is no SD.

Despite a valiant effort by my pitchers to keep LA in check, my hitters simply could not figure out LA pitching. My timing was all over the map in this one. Hopefully just a bump, I really don’t need slump 2.0 at this point.

Ryu was absolutely dominating with his...whatever he does, as the Dodgers win 4-0. Not exactly what I was hoping for leading up to Kershaw.

Another poor hitting game. I looks like this makes 4 out of 5 with 5 hits or less. I notice I am popping a lot more behind me as well, so I am getting under the ball all of a sudden. Gotta turn it around.

Maybe I should take the team out for ice cream.

The final homestand begins with a tough loss to Philadelphia. Chris Archer was cruising right along until the “shall not speak about” 2-out sixth inning rally (single,error,hit pitcher,double), that changed the course of the game.

This game also came at s cost as I lost Adam Frazier for 1-2 months with a groin injury. Time to hit the market!

Once I realized that Ben Lively was NOT about working around batters, I gave up on working the count and just hammered the Phillies for 11 runs. Only the 4th time this season I have put up double digits on a team. I was really tracking the ball well and squaring up to all corners of the zone today.

I also am going to try more to be very selective about leaving my pitch in for the 6th. I think I just trying to be defiant and more often than not I end up paying for trying to out-tough the CPU. Pulling Musgrove after 5 innings was not a tough decision as he had given up four runs. Bullpen proceeded to shut out the Phillies the rest of the way. This game forces you to learn!

Well the bullpen strategy held until the 8th when Philly made their move, but I held them off for a 7-6 win and series win. Arrieta got it early to lose his confidence.

Things are starting to shift in the NL Central as St Louis is finally learning how to lose a game or two. After a series with Washington I head into All-Stat break with a 4-game set with Milwaukee. Interesting week ahead.

The Cubs are 16-11 after losing 4 in a row now. We just got done with the 3rd of a 4 game home series against the first place Brewers. They have won all 3 games to win 7 in a row. Game 2 I was down 1-0 in the 5th and I scored 2 runs to make it 2-1. Gave up a 3 run homer in the 6th to go down 4-2 and lost 4-3. Game 3 I was down 1-0 in the 5th and I hit a 3 run homer to go up 3-1. They get 3 hits in a row to make it a 3-2 lead before they hit a 3 run homer to make it 5-3 and I lost 7-3. The Brewers are killing my pitching staff which have been great lately. They are hitting .345 in the 3 games with a .407 BABIP with 5 home runs. While my offense hit .194 in the 3 games with a .209 BABIP and 4 homers. The few balls I hit hard are right at them. While their hard hit balls are in the gaps or over the wall.

Yeah, I have had my troubles with hitting Milwaukee. I avg about 3 runs a game. The have not hit me too hard, but I have had several close losses to them.
