Yeah, the slipped bat animation only occurs when you are badly fooled by a pitch...

And I'm thinking it's the same thing for the broken bats, though I'm not as positive.

p.s. wouldn't it be tight if after a broken bat, the umps stop the game to examine for cork a la Sosa!

The broken bats probably happen on breaking pitches somehow. Or pitches with a lot of movement.

I do see a reasonable amount of slipped bats in 1 player mode, but in head to head it's just unreasonable to say the least. I swing at similar pitches in each mode.
