      Re: Consensus on pitch count

The odd thing is, while their pitches may not be as accurate when they are exhausted, they still throw the ball at darn near the normal speed, so, if the pitcher is doing well and still mowing them down when exhausted, he can still go like the energizer bunny.
I had one pitch 170-some pitches for me last night in a shutout, complete game victory.
It made me check the rosters to make sure I didn't throw his arm out, after the game... which he didn't.
So complete games pitched with semi-high generated pitch counts are possible, provided the pitcher is doing well.
In manage only mode, I've had 2 complete games pitched, for wins.
In the other, the pitcher was exhausted and his pitch count was in the high 150's.

i didnt know you could go THAT hig with the pitch counts, but i HAD noticed that you can continue pitching with a guy whos out of gasas long as hes still pitching effectively....ive noticed that the guys to really worry about when they have zero stamina are your middle relievers, they seem to lose effectiveness right along with stamina, whereas a starter can still hang in there

                  Re: Consensus on pitch count

I find the Random and Smart Counts to be very accurate pitch count wise. Take Mussina for example. Last season he pitched about 200 innings in about 30 starts. That averages out to about 6.7 innings a start. That's what you are going to get on most outings with a pitcher using Smart or Random counts. I suppose I should say, using a pitcher with a stamina rating at or around what Musssina's is. I have some pitchers that are gassed by the 5th, but I think that's totally realistic. Looks at the box scores yesterday and you'll see how many starters did'nt go beyond the 5th inning.

My understanding is that it takes the hitters rating and the pitchers ratings/stamina into account. The other night I was playing the Cubs with my Reds. Maddox was pitching and he got a lot of 1-2 counts to start the at bat.
