Hiting to what side you want using the swing stick

I saw that alot of people are saying you can't hit the ball where you want using the hit stick. Well, today I would pull the stick back and then to the left and I would hit the ball to third and If I pull back then swing the stick to the right I would hit towards first. You guys should give it a try before giving up on the hit stick.
