I agree with a lot of this. I used to be in the video game/computer industry and we had more time to work on things.
It's all relative regarding the complexity however. It's like how a lot of younger doctors now think that medicine is more complex. It is in some ways (there is an overall increase in volume to know), but on the other hand we now have technology, etc. to help us come up with a diagnosis, and many more treatment modalities.
I do think that patching via the internet has become a bit of a crutch. My friends still in the business tell me that part of the problem is that resources are not channeled like they used to be to quality assurance. Most of the developers try to do the best they can, but their hands are often tied by business decisions and deadlines of course.

For anyone that can't get it fixed right away, I see the trouble. However they probably caught it at the 11th hour and it was either fix it and have the game delayed as it would probably have to go through the entire approval process again or let it go to print and have the remedy available to probably 95% on day 1.

If it would have been weeks to get the fix out, I'd be in your boat, but because most (not all) will have the ability to have it be a non-factor, it's not a very big deal except to those few.

It could have been something (like previous years) that broke right at the very end.

Obviously a business decision...if it meant delaying the release then there is a good chance they would lose out on some additional sales to the other guys who are out looking for any game on day 1.

          Chase,

Maybe this was posted already, if so, sorry. Do the CPU batters swing at everything or do they work the count at all? Have they taken walks? Thanks, brotha.

Are you guys seeing animations from non-second basemen where they step to throw in one direction and actually throw in another? An OF stepping towards second and actually throwing towards second, but the ball goes to third (with third base being the anticipated throw)?

Back in the day it would've been fixed, instead of shipped.

Anyways, I'm glad it was fixed, and if he does buy the game I'm sure I'll have him bring his HD down to me when he visits so I can update it for him. Still, it's a pain in the arse and something that shouldn't have made it thru to the final build.

If they have Xport & Xplorer 360, I will probably post the patches on my blog like I do the other sports games for those people who don't have broadband/xbox Live so that's another alternative for them.

I can't believe that you can spend this much time worrying about something that you will only see after you put in the hours to win the the thing. If the celebration has any impact on whether you like the game, then the game sucks. If the time spent winning the WS was not enough, then what is the point in worrying about this little piece of canned cutscenes.

Then again, maybe it is so cool and utterly jaw-dropping that we don't want the end of the game spoiled. Maybe we need a spoilers thread!

First of all, I have no idea what you said in the first sentence, was that english?

Second, why are you all worried about my question that I'm asking someone who actually has the game? He said he would answer it, and if he doesn't answer it or doesn't want to answer it for whatever reason, I have no problem with that.

I've already made up my mind that I'm probably getting game, but it's one of the questions I'd like to know. If you are going to play 162 games or more on this game, I'd like to know is it worth it? If not, I'll play a shorter season, or just play exihibtion. That's the reason why I'm asking, and since he said he willing to answer it, when he gets to it this weekend, everything is cool

But to sum it all up again, why are you worried about my question? Ask your own and move along.

I'm buying the game day one, regardless.

But I think there is a problem when this kind of a bug slips through to the 11th hour. Because this was blatant, and found within one day. It makes you wonder what else is missing, because they obviously didn't test this nearly enough. I'm not sure how this bug didn't get caught long before going gold.

I don't like how the "fix" was announced. They feel no pressure to let us know what the patch is fixing. there was more wrong with franchise play than the just the FA's. It sounds like roster management and player progression is messed up as well.

Was that part of the "fix"? Who knows? It used to be common to release lists of what patches were going to address. But 2K doesn't feel the need to do that. So just like 2K8, we will get the patch, and then start playing to see what is affected ourselves.

It's pretty piss poor management. They could stem a ton of the drama on the forums if they just released more info.

There we go. Sorry if my last post sounded harsh. I guess I didn't realize that some people don't have access to broadband because of where they live. If that's the case, I apologize.

Believe me man, I know. I hounded Ronnie last year for this info when they released the 360 patch, but he had bs reason after bs reason of why they couldn't release a list (had to get the ok from PR or marketing)-not saying he was bs, but the answer was.

How can you force people to update their game to play it, but not disclose everything that is being updated or fixed.

I contend that back in the day, it wouldn't have been wrong in the first place. The ability to release now & patch later has taken the Quality out of Q&A. Older games were tested better.

Plenty of people don't have broadband Internet still. It might not seem like it, but it is the case. Sure you can pack up your 360/PS3 and take it to a buddy's house but that is a pain in the ***.

Not to mention, those without Internet at home are likely to be unaware that there is even a patch in the first place, since you could assume they don't usually patch their games. All they know is that after the first season of franchise, the game goes to hell.

The overall point being that this is the type of error that should be fixed before shipping, instead of being lazily fixed post-release. When a main mode for your game doesn't function properly, you should fix that before releasing it.

I agree with you for the most part. However, it could have been a late bug. They didn't have time to fix it. I guess they could have delayed the game, but that would piss a lot of people off. Also, sometimes when you try to fix a bug it creates 10 new ones.

I think they could put this issue to rest if they simply offered another way to get the patch. Such as a normal PC download or something like that.
