There was another game missing check swings, I can't remember what it was, but part of me wants to think it was a past 2K game.

Anyone remember?

Actually, 2K7 didn't have it for one of the hitting options (classic as I recall... I think it was patched though). There was a similar uproar on the 2K site then as well...lol.

I'm thinking World Series Baseball 2K3 didn't have it, but that might have just been for the power swing. I'm guessing 2K1 didn't have it either, since you swing by releasing the R-trigger.

But MLB The Show hasn't had check swings in online play, which is probably the biggest of reasons that I never play online (I'm guessing check swings are in this year?).

The Show has it online. I pull them off all the time. The window though is much smaller compared to offline though. But they are not "hasn't had".

The Show has it online. I pull them off all the time. The window though is much smaller compared to offline though. But they are not "hasn't had".

Interesting, because I couldn't check-swing to save my life. In fact, I should be dead right now.

It is very difficult, but can be done.

Will be remedied this year though with them wanting online to mirro off, hopefully.

Wonder if classic mode will still have check swings with 2K. Or is it 100% gone all together.

I don't use it but hopefully they put it in for the final version..wasent there a patch last year wend the game was realsed?

2K7 had a patch for check swings with classic, because they forgot to enable it before it went gold.

I believe it was the sony game the year before it became the show. They didn't have a check swing on MLB 04 or 5 then they took a year off If I recall and rewrote their engine, and changed the name to the show for the 06 iteration. This was on the PS2, I remember the big hoopla back then cause I think mvp 04 had a left field issue like home run or something.

They didn't take a year off. There was an MLB 2006 before The show 06. I remember that one because it kept freezing on me...lol.

It sounds like it, yes.

From the Art Direction insight:

This year we added multi-character animations to improve the realism of collisions between the catcher and the base runner for plays at the plate. We also added multi-character animations for pickoff/steal plays as well as double play collisions in which the base runner attempts a takeout slide to prevent the shortstop/2nd baseman from turning a double play. All of these are to minimize the amount of player penetration during these plays to make the outcome more believable. We also updated the movement model to allow for more directional based fielding animations to allow the fielders to follow the ball during its trajectory. We also added more multi-action animations (run, catch, throw all in one file) to allow the player to queue up a throw to a particular base before gathering the ball to quicken the throw to that base and increase the reaction time of the fielder in the hopes of making a play. And we also added new Signature animations for this year’s roster and tried to improve the look of the batting and pitching introductions.

Then they had MLB 06 The Show (with Papi on the cover). it was the year that SCEA wanted to change the date to THAT YEAR and not a "year ahead" like it was.

I remember, because I brought 2K6 for the 360 back to Gamestop the SAME DAY, and re-bought a brand new PS2 slim and the game if they gave me full credit for an opened game, they did. Yes 2K6 was that bad.

And the change over from 989 studios.

That was supposed to be the same situation for 2k when they scenario to VC. Maybe there's hope.

Some people were overly optimistic I think. With Sony, they had a solid foundation in the transition, with 2K, their game has been so Frankenstein it is a much bigger mess.

People have their hopes, as well as myself. But just because they put out an NBA gem, doesn't directly translate into a baseball gem. Two different sports on what works and what doesn't work game-play wise for video games. But I am still cautiously optimistic, even if it is fading some cause of the check swing debacle.
