I'll throw a starter to the top of his pitch count range if I'm getting guys out, but more often than not they start getting wild or giving up hits. In a close game you might not want to chance it especially if you have a solid bullpen.

This all has to do with how fatigue effects pitch effectiveness. Meter starts moving faster which means you have to gesture faster and you can end up overthrowing (or "underthrowing" by not getting full effectiveness) and that 80 rated fastball pitch is coming in there as a 60 rated fastball (80 x 75%).
I watch that pitch count range and energy level attribute like a hawk.

I especially love this facet of in-game action because it really keeps me on the edge of my seat at times. There's been quite a few close games where I've wanted my starter to go 7 or 8 innings, but the pitch count is up there, the energy is low, and I'm worrying I might injure my pitcher. Very cool wrinkle of action.

Joe! What's up?! I see your still head honcho in the 2k baseball department. Thanks for your advice, I bought the game and now I think I'll try your sliders. Let me know if you ever want to roll online.

Actually I think that it makes the game a lot more interesting! Makes you adjust your pitching style later in the game!

Agreed, it forces you to make smart decisions with your starter and makes the rate of complete games thrown by pitchers much more realistic. My franchise is with the Phills and outside of Roy and Cliff, none of my pictures can go complete games in every outing, that includes hamels and Oswalt. In prior years, I would hardly ever have to use my middle relievers but now having two or three of those guys in the bullpen is a must.

And when the fatigue bug gets fixed for franchise play, it is going to force you to make even longer termed decisions. Becasue that middle reliever will now enter the next game with a lower energy level. Right now, you can go a few innings with mot of your MR's without much worry when you are playing MLB Today games. But in season mode, or playoff mode, those decisions are going to affect what you can do in following games.

I'm really curious to see how well MLB Today will handle this once the season starts. It's an essential part of the game now. If they do it well, it is going to teach a ton of young baseball fans about why managers make the moves they do with their bullpens. what seems idiotic may now be understandable when you factor in fatigue.

Perhaps I've hit that point here, and 2K just doesn't allow for that. The idea that the AI is actually adaptive is really quite intriguing.

My games have always been about relaxing after a long day, perhaps a bit more focus is in order here.

                  I shall overcome!
So just a little follow up on this issue. Last night I "reset" the sliders by changing back to "legend" and then re-entering all unique settings, and followed that with a 3-1 win. I was able to hit spots, and it just "felt" a lot more like it did when I used the settings originally.

I'll write it off as simple deus ex machina.

Nice thread Joe.... I will focus a bit more on hitting my spots and PC.

What do you not like about default All Star settings that make you go to custom legend? thanks my man.

I have nothing against All-Star. Just never tried that setting. I preferably like Pro. For some reason setting the sliders from LEGEND plays a really good game for me this year.

                        I completely agree with you.

Problem is, when I'm aiming off the corners but miss the gesture, pitches end up over the middle of the plate. I'm hoping that by raising pitch control I can make sure I don't leave fat pitches over the plate as often.

I walk my fair share of batters and I pitch to the catcher suggestions. I'm just not the greatest at gesturing I suppose and I miss over the heart of the plate and give up hits. With contact at 35 they missed enough of these pitches for me to not give up too many hits. Now with contact at 40 the cpu isnt missing as many and hit totals (mostly singles) are just too high. Getting dinked and dunked to death. To be honest I haven't noticed much of a difference with pitch control at 50 vs. 40, though I only had time for a few innings last night.

Is there a better way to counteract this than raising pitch control?

Lowering the Pitch Meter Speed is probably your best bet. This will allow you to get better with your gestures

Good call - should have less impact than changing pitching control.

Pitch Success is also a good slider to adjust. It affects how often a guy will swing and miss, even if he has timed it correctly. That seems to be more directly tied to your particular problem.
