He will probably get fired and then they'll make the stupid move of hiring Bob Brenly since he's already calling Cubs games on TV.

I have to go with Yes. Watching him managage/watch a game is painful. He's an idiot. Maybe they should try a AAA manager or something, no one with a big name, unless it's Peter Gammons.

The Cubs should try to lure Ned Yost away from the Brewers.

If not Yost, then maybe Jim Tracy (I think his contract's up at the end of the year).

Re: should baker get the axe/ who should replace him

It will be an interesting winter for the Cubs coming up because someone will have to be held responsible for this season so it will either be Baker or GM Jim Hendry-or both. Baker does make questionable decisions at times and Hendry let Moises Alou walk, traded Sammy Sosa and replaced them with Jeremy Burnitz (today was the first time in over a month that the Cubs scored in double digits). Hendry also did nothing to really help the bullpen either, Chad Fox's career is likely over, Stephen Randolph is down in the minors and Scott Williamson is not expected to pitch this season.

No one can be blamed for all the injury's the Cubs have suffered this season, but both can be held accountable for the teams bad play. Baker does not manage like a N.L. manager, the Cubs do not move runners over, steal bases or hit and run, instead they wait for the 3 run homers which have not been coming. Thats where Baker is at fault. and see above for why Hendry is at fault.

The best thing the Cubs can do is clean house after the season is over.

Maybe they would be interested in Larry Bowa? I thought he got a raw deal in Philli and he'd probably like another shot at managing.

No. It is not Bakers fault that half his team is on the DL. But they will I think in the end fire him. I just think it is to bad if they do.

Bad if they do? What has gone right with the Cubs since Baker has been there. He used 1 year to fry all the arms of the youngins and like the guy above mentioned there are no stolen bases or hit and runs. Corey Patterson is FAST!!!!! And rarely is he given the chance to run nor has he been taught to hit on the ground.

I think Larry Bowa would be a bad choice simply because the man is TOO intense. His intensity and explosive temper were some of the reasons he got fired in Philly. I do agree that the Cubs may need a more intense manager but going from the extremes of probably one of the most laidback managers to the most intense is a bit much.

Grady Little would probably get the interim or the first shot since he's been in the organization as a roving instructor/talent evaluator since he left the Red Sox. There's also been talk of Larry Dierker, Jim Leyland, and Jim Tracy if he's fired from L.A. I would love for em to throw as much money as it takes to get Leo Mazzone from the Braves. As many pitchig problems and injuries as the Cubs have had, I think Leo could work wonders with the pitching staff. He has singlehandedly turned around the careers of more pitchers than Dusty has hurt the career of young pitchers.
