I say there is a 99% chance the Tigers get a starter. They have been super aggressive, for the average pitchers like Guthrie and the aces like Shields and Jimenez. They still are going hard for Kuroda. The only scenario where I don't see the Tigers making a big move for a pitcher is if their 7 best trade targets all get hurt. So I think it's almost a guarantee we land a pitcher.

There's a "strong belief" that the best offer for Carlos Beltran may come from the Rangers:

Re: 2011 MLB Trade Deadline Thread
The Gomes deal doesn't make sense because the Nationals aren't contenders, but I've heard that they could try to flip him to someone else (Braves?).Comment

Re: 2011 MLB Trade Deadline Thread
They could be looking ahead to next year. That, or the price was too good to pass up (two stacks of cheese for a type B free agent).Comment

Re: 2011 MLB Trade Deadline Thread
Every once and while you'l see a trade for the sake of trading, Gomes to the Nats was just that.
As for looking to next year the Nats and Royals both appear to be very interested in B.J. Upton. Upton could be the change-of-scenery-does-him-good guy but he is not a building piece for two teams loaded with young players.Comment

i'll miss Jonny's heart, hustle, personality and mohawk, however, i won't miss him swinging at every pitch out of the strike zoneComment
