It'll be hard to root for Bedard because he's in Boston, but I'd love to see him regain his 2007 form. During the summer of that year he was as good as I had ever seen. It's a shame he didn't have more of a bulldog mentality or he would've been really special (1 career CG, never pitched 200+ innings, routinely asked to be taken out of games while in Baltimore, etc.).

I was talking about in-game...for some reason I specifically remember this one:

I don't know, Ludwick's best stretch this year I think was against NL Central teams. Even though he's a right-handed power hitter, he didn't do well for this team especially at PETCO Park.Comment

Tigers made a great move. Fister has better numbers than guys like Lincecum. He's also under contract for a while. They have Verlander, Porcello, Scherzer, Fister, and Jacob Turner who will all be under contract for 3 more years. Helps them now and in the future. Great rotation. Pauley can also help stabilize the bullpen, he's also around for a while.
The Tigers managed to make themselves better now, and in the future, and they didn't really give up a whole lot. Wells is a real nice player but nothing to lose sleep over. Furbush is going to hurt himself. Horrible mechanics. He also has very little mound presence and looks scared. Martinez is solid, but the Tigers 2nd best prospect plays the same position and is just a level behind him.
I think the Indians took a big risk. Sending 4 prospects for a guy who mysteriously lost 3-4 mph of his fastball? They felt pressure to make a big move, it could come back to haunt them.
I like what the Braves did with Michael Bourn also. He should really help their offense hitting at the top of the order. They are a mess without Chipper, McCann, and then Hayward, Prado, Gonzalez all struggling.Last edited by CabreraMVP; 08-01-2011, 01:12 AM.JayElectronicaBluElzhi2PacTheNotoriousB.I.G.ReksSc arfaceFashawnJeruThaDamajaComment

Re: 2011 MLB Trade Deadline Thread
I love what the Ms did.
Fister has pitched well this year well, but he was far exceeding expectations. If he continues to pitch at this level for very much longer I will be very surprised.
As for the Bedard deal, seems like a good return on someone who hasn't pitched in August since 2007.All ties severed...Comment

He's not hurt...did they really just hate his personality? I can't understand that...
It's not Ubaldo's personality that's the issue. It's the sudden loss in velocity, as CabreraMVP pointed out. There's no way I can't prove this, but I think it's a situation where either the Rockies pitching coach or someone else on that team's coaching staff talked Ubaldo Jimenez into tweaking his mechanics/delivery trying to fix something that wasn't even broken in the first place, and doing that made Ubaldo regress a bit. Now his stuff is still really good, but his fastball is not electric anymore.
At any rate, the Yankees wanted Ubaldo badly but not at the price the Rockies were asking for. The Red Sox wanted him as well, though not to the extent as New York had. The Indians were the only team that had the prospects it took to acquire Ubaldo and was also willing to take a chance and have faith in him being able to recapture his 2010 form.

Re: 2011 MLB Trade Deadline Thread
And his numbers are sure to go up playing in the AL Central. He's given up 8 runs in 11 career innings agaisnt Detroit who he will see a lot down the stretch, and his interleague ERA is over 4.
He's been a good pitcher (not a number 1 starter on a good team), has lost a ton of velocity this season, and struggles in the AL. And Cleveland gave up 2 top prospects for him.JayElectronicaBluElzhi2PacTheNotoriousB.I.G.ReksSc arfaceFashawnJeruThaDamajaComment
