We need MAJOR changes in Atlanta this offseason, I dont know who or what, but it needs to be done.

First thing is first - MAJOR renovation in the bullpen. I say we keep Kent Mercker and Will Cunnane to go along with Smoltzie, and dump everyone else. I am so sick of Ray King and Roberto Hernandez.

Second, we need to get another quality starter in return for Maddux. He commands WAY too much money, and I can't see us re-signing him for just 1 more season (he got $16 million for this season alone.) Even though I only want to see Greg in an Atlanta uni, I don't think it will be possible after this season.

Third, we need to find a way to dump Paul Byrd. What a terrible FA signing. I know he didn't even play this season, but still...

Anyway, those are my .02 cents on how Atlanta should go about it's offseason. Bullpen should be #1 priority.

How about starting with the managerial job and firing Bobby Cox? It's not as absurd as it may sound. 12 consecutive NL EAST divisional titles, and 12 straight years in playoffs, and only one WS win to show for it.
" I look at him and it's getting to the point where it's just scaring me. He looks younger but he doesn't carry himself in a younger manner. He's impressive, and I'm glad we drafted him. "

Cox is beloved in Atlanta.

His teammates love him and JS loves him.

I really don't see Cox being fired.

Sadly, that might have to be the case. If for some reason the Yankees let go of Torre....I could see the Braves make a run for him, also we could maybe get Bobby Valentine. I dont know though, this offseason will be a hard process.

We NEED to get rid of our garbage bullpen, and we need to get Javier Vazquez. If that happens, I'll be happy. Call me crazy but I think Maddux might be willing to take a paycut to stay with us. Also I think we should get rid of Castilla, put Jones back at 3B, and sign another outfielder.

I like what someone said a little earlier about letting go of Castilla and putting Chipper back at the hot corner. There are plenty of good ourfielders floating around Triple AAA and the majors....I don't think it would hurt to try to get a young one too. We need to also start thinking about our team in the future. A mid-game reliever would also be very nice to have.

It's a smart move, IMO. After seeing what DeRosa could do in the playoffs, I really have a better respect for him. I can honestly say that if the Braves are deep at one position, it's definitely 2B (Giles & DeRosa)
