Well, the word in Houston is that big changes could be on the horizon for the Astros, so Petitte would be welcomed and could complement Oswalt, Miller, and Hernandez nicely. Salary could be freed up to sign him if Wagner or Hidalgo are traded.

Ha ha... this cracks me up. There can be rumors abound that Vladie, Sheff or Tejada are going to the Yanks and most fans won't care or get all defensive, but when a Yankee player is mentioned as leaving, Yankme fans get all in a huff.

#1- Why would fans get defensive about great players COMING to their team? #2- I care if Pettitte goes because he's a true Yankee and my favorite player. #3- I guess you know more than Andy's dad when it comes to where his son will be playing next year? And I do listen to the radio- it's called Mike and the Maddog on 660 WFAN in NY. Why would Pettitte want to go to SD? At least the Rangers will be in contention if they get some pitching.
<hr /></blockquote><font class="post">
I'll tell you one thing. The Padres are a hell of alot closer than the Rangers are. One guy won't do it for Texas, because they just don't have the money to go after the amount of pitching they need. The Pads already have Peavey and Lawrence, so if you add a Pettite or Millwood to the mix you have a very very good 1,2,3 in your rotation. Hoffman at even 80% is better than anything the Rangers can put out there, and the rest of the bully is more than servicable. I'll also put Giles, Nevin and Klesko up against any other 3,4,5 in all of baseball. Oh yeah, Burroughs can hit, as well as Kotsay, then you throw in a catcher than can hit, you have the makings of a solid lineup. One more thing the Pads have to their advantage, Arlington sure as hell aint no San Diego. You tell me where you would rather live?
<hr /></blockquote><font class="post">
Well stated LHayes, and a big boast for SD is the ballpark, the weather (although it's been pretty crappy as of late). And with how the team is right now, I'm pretty sure there are people out there that'd want to come to San Diego. Sheffield said he'd like to, problem is no room in the outfield.
BTW, speaking of Yankees pitchers, with Clemens going, Wells having the option of retiring and their offense starting to get old... I think they're dynasty is almost over. From what I heard, their pitchers (rotation i think?) have been the reason why they went to the post season/world series. Why not raid their staff?Comment

Re: Pettite to RED SOX
if i were andy i would consider SD. im tellin you starting next year look out for the Padres. 2 yrs from now i bet money the Padres are in the World Series. the farm system is good, they have good young pitchers and players, and bochy is a good manager. look out for the padres in a few yrs they will be a playoff/championship type of team like back in 98.President of the Devils Den

The trade and the signing of Sheffield would definitely solve all those problems with Nevin/Klesko's positioning, but I think we're pretty much set with Giles/Nevin/Klesko. We would've been better if Moores would've actually put more money into the team.
BTW yanks1, what is this? "At least the Rangers will be in contention if they get some pitching." I don't think the Rangers can afford pitching because of the amount of money they're paying their lineup.Comment

Why not raid their staff?
<hr /></blockquote><font class="post">
Unless the Pads find a taker for Klesko or Nevin, you're right, there is no room for Sheffield. I wouldn't mind throwing him in right ans dealing Nevin, but that is just a dream I think. By the way people, players have been wanting to come to San Diego for years, the team just didn't have the money to give them. With this new yard though, the NL West should be theirs for a few years.
<hr /></blockquote><font class="post">
The trade and the signing of Sheffield would definitely solve all those problems with Nevin/Klesko's positioning, but I think we're pretty much set with Giles/Nevin/Klesko. We would've been better if Moores would've actually put more money into the team.
BTW yanks1, what is this? "At least the Rangers will be in contention if they get some pitching." I don't think the Rangers can afford pitching because of the amount of money they're paying their lineup.Comment

Dude, there's no whay Pettitte is going to SD, sorry to burst your bubble. He already said that HE wants to stay in NY, but it's not totally up to him. His dad said there's a fifty-fifty chance he'll stay with the Yankees. If he decides to sign with a texas team (and ONLY a texas team) it'll be to be near his family.

Ha ha... this cracks me up.

It's called development. Buck Showalter is the man, and I would bet money that he fixes the Rangers up into a contender if given a couple years. He's the sole reason that the Yankees of the 80's and early 90's died and gave way to the 95 group. He pushed for the scouting and developing of top prospects, unlike Torre and Cashman who want to buy up FA to make a team. And as for the person who said the "dynasty" is over, I totally agree with that statement. Its enormous! is this clown ball or baseball? - courtesy of m-dogg
