I think that New York has such high expectations for the Yankees that hardly no one is good enough to play there. Steinbrenner expects so much from the players there. And the expectations are so high that some of the players are probabily intimidated to play there. Look what happend to Boone there after coming over from the Reds. He was having a All-Star year in Cincy. He comes to New York and the rest of his season is bombed.

sad thing is IMO the Yankees overachieved this yr. They were all banged up, had no bullpen (except Rivera back off Yankee homers!), and they didn't swing the bats well. So to everyone but Yankee homers, and George it was a failure give me a freakin break!

I don't think that the Yanks can overachieve on a payroll of 150 mill; when your lineup has Giambi, Jeter, Soriano, Posada, Williams, Matsui; and your pitching staff has Mussina, Clemens, Petitte, and Rivera. With those 10 players on ANY team, that team better make it to the postseason.

well when giambi is not 100%, the bats were not swinging, wells got hurt, they had no bullpen, and the red sox had them beat but let them back in it. so yeah this yr after the horrible reg season they had even though they won 95 games. still a ton of turmoil. so yeah i think they overachieved.

Ok, Wells got hurt but your top 3 in the rotation is STILL Mussina, Clemens, and Petitte. Giambi was hurt but still hit 41 HRs and drove in 100+ runs. Soriano 38/91, Matsui 16/106, Posada 30/101. The only extended injury was to B. Williams (Jeter still hit close to .330). The Yankees can only UNDERachieve or meet expectations, they cannot OVERachieve IMO.

Bernie's getting old, Yankee's need a new center fielder.
Bernie was great but his minds on his music now.
