This happens in every sport, not just Baseball, remember a few years ago when NBA fans voted Alonzo Mourning onto the eastern conference allstar team?, at least by the allstar break Nomar will have played some games, Mourning missed the entire season.

And while we're at it, Melvin Mora should be the starting third baseman over ARod. The guys is flirting with the .400 mark and thats damn impressive.

Amen to that!! And his defense has improved dramatically since the first few weeks of the season. Mora is an underrated player, he can do it all.Comment

Re: What the hell is wrong with baseball fans?
This is nothing new.... I remember Mark McGire making the team for Oakland with a whopping .212 batting average one year (and I think Wally Joyner was hitting .300 or better).
I remember some years back when Mike Schmidt was having a down year. Even though he was voted in, he declined to play in the all star game because he felt he did not deserve it, and there was a younger player behind him in the voting who was having a stellar season. Now that's class.Comment

Well, it wasn't hard to improve defensively from where he once was. He looked terrible at the hot corner in the first couple of games I saw..Comment

Re: What the hell is wrong with baseball fans?
Correct me if this statement is wrong, but VOTING ISN'T OVER YET!!!!!
Jeez, you make it sound like Garciaparra is the starting SS on this year's All-Star team.
Look, this stuff evens out. It's always wacky when the first ballots are tabulated because people are voting in April!!
Then, once everyone sees how the voting is going, the intelligent people take over and (for the most part) get it right. Just look at All-Star rosters of the past (since fan voting) and you will see that the fans do a darn good job of selecting the players. As a matter of fact, a heck of a lot better job than the managers do selecting the reserves and a hell of lot better than the fraternity brothers (read: players) would do.
Just look at last year. Pujols, while destroying the league was in forth place in outfielders with a week to go in voting. The public knew this was wrong and he ended up winning the thing.
Patience, people. Patience.Comment

Re: What the hell is wrong with baseball fans?
Nomar leading is a joke. Hopefully the intelligent people will come in and even things out. I always hate it to see the good players get snubbed for the most popular players. Hopefully things will balance out. I still haven't voted yet, maybe I will have to go in and vote all 25 times.
