Benson has said that he does not want to go to an eastern team i.e. the Red Sox, Yankees, Mets or Phillies because he believes the media pressure will be too much for him to handle and would prefer to be dealt to a western team because the media is more laid back.
Apparently he has read the crap rag known as the L.A. Times.Comment

Re: Mets get Mike DeJean
Welcome to Baltimore Karim Garcia. 2 home runs, a 2-run HR and a 3-run HR, in a 12-3 win over Kansas City.
In just one game he's given the O's more contribution than DeJean did all season.Comment

Did Benson acually say that? I mean it doesn't really matter cause Littlefield will ship him off to whoever ponies up the best prospects, but I never knew Benson said that. That's the knock I've heard on Benson that he couldn't handle the pressure but being with the Pirates there really isn't that much.Comment

Are you basing your assessment on Heilman based on half a season with one of the worst pitching coaches in Vern Ruhle? Heilman has been one of the best pitchers in AAA over the last month.
I think its unfair to make a definitive judgement on what Heilman is worth after watching him for half a season.

The pitching coach didn't pitch last season, Heilman did. And he stunk. And I don't care if he's been pitching lights out for Norfolk the last month, since he was HORRIBLE for the three months before that. One good month doesn't make him ready for the majors. I'm not saying he's worthless, and I'm not saying that he's a bust (although things are looking that way right now), but I am saying that his rating is too high in ESPN 2K4 and I am saying that he's not a major league pitcher right now, cannot be counted on, and as a Mets fan I do not want him pitching for the big club this season.
Just looked up his stats... 4.65 ERA, 110.1 innings, 120 hits, 42 BB, 94 Ks, 57 ER, 71 R. That doesn't impress me, even though he must have been on fire for a bit to get his ERA under 5.50.

There a lot of guys that had a bad rookie year and by your logic they are expendable. Heilman pitched great in Spring Training and a strong argument could be made that he earned the 5th starter's place to start the season. Rick Peterson has instituted many different changes in the deliveries of these pitchers- I think the changes are finally starting to click for Heilman.
