That will cost him far more than the almost 20M in QO money.
What a weird situation, should have taken the qualifying offer and got the surgery at the start of the offseason so he could hopefully be back towards the end of the season before hitting free agency again. Makes me think Boras was trying to bamboozle some team in to giving him a big deal knowing he wasn’t healthy

And also, perhaps those teams knew he wasn't healthy so they didn't bother signing him.

I'd imagine that's it for his career. 2 suspensions and numbers completely fell off, dont really see anyone wanting to sign him at that point.

Yeah I'd be surprised if he ever plays again, I thought he'd be DFA'd as soon as his suspension was up. Thankfully the Mets have money now, the Wipons would have hung on to him until the middle of next year before they considered eating any salary

Apparently if Cleveland did deal Ramirez, it would've been to the Jays for 3 of Grichuk, Biggio, Pearson, Kirk.

I would've done that deal for sure. I'd even give up all 4.

Too bad this is the time a guy chose a low payday to stay than a bigger one to go anywhere else.

                    White Sox DFA Keuchel.

He struggled the last 2 seasons, despite being a top 5 Cy Young vote getter in 2020.

Knowing our luck, he winds up with the Yankees and pitches like its 2015.

I could see a team wanting him. Won't hurt trying him out and seeing if he could regain that form. If not, he's only on the hook for a 1.5m buyout next year.

Also, despite not playing in 3 years, C/IF/OF/P Russell Martin has just announced his retirement. A career .500WHIP, 0.00ERA. And that whole catching career too..

                      Padres released Robinson Cano.

I never knew they signed him. At this point, anyone who signs him is just doing it based on past stats, hoping he can replicate those numbers...cleanly.

Jays once again put Ryu on the IL.

He struggled to start the year, went on the IL, came back, had a few good starts, struggled, now back on the IL.

The way the rest of their rotation has been, and the way the offense has been lately, just keep him out until he's 100%.

Crazy/sad to say about a guy who was a top 3 Cy Young vote getter in 2 of the last 3 seasons, but he's become their #4-5 starter.

I have him as their #3 starter when he's in there and healthy. His WHIP and strikeout to walk rate are much better than Kikuchi, and I'm sorry but he's so much better than Jose Berrios, who fooled all of us last year along with Steven Matz. As a Mets fan, I've known Matz is hot one year and cold the next, but I really thought Berrios had turned a corner given he finally fixed his WHIP and strikeout rate last year. Turns out he's one of the most hittable pitchers in the league, while Ryu just has injury issues

Meanwhile, a guy who wasn't a fluke is Adam Cimber. And I think he's been maybe the best reliever in the league that's not a closer. What a great pick up from the Marlins, who continue to insist on being everyone else's farm team along with the Pirates

Ryu out for the season for the Jays.

Sounds like possibly having Tommy John surgery.

He's in year 3 of a 4 year deal. Who knows if he ever pitches for them again.

Lefties should be their priority for the deadline.

A lefty starter, lefty reliever, lefty bat in the OF.

Nationals want to include Patrick Corbin and his bad contract in any deals for Juan Soto.

Fine, that will lessen the haul for Soto. Better yet, include Strasburg and just give us Soto for free
