Re: 2009 Atlanta Braves
I wouldn't be suprised to see both Hanson and Schafer in Atlanta at some point this year. However I don't think we will see Heyward as he is only 2 years removed from being drafted right out of high school.Comment

Re: 2009 Atlanta Braves
Schafer got busted for the "cloud" and had a 50-game suspension last year; he may be naturally gifted but I honestly don't have a lot of respect for him. As for Hanson, I haven't seen him pitch yet (didn't get to the spring game) but I don't want him to be rushed...It's been a while since Atlanta's actually had a top prospect be a starting pitcher that has some serious talentOriginally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.
It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.Comment

Re: 2009 Atlanta Braves
I think they signed Glavine expressly to take some pressure off Hanson.
They can roll with Lowe, Vazquez, Kawakami, Jurrjens, and Glavine, and have Hanson 45 minutes down the road at Gwinnett for a spot start, instead of dumping the 5th starter position on him.
I like Shafer's upside, but I think Anderson brings more to the table right now (not to mention, he's out of options).
While we're talking Braves prospects, Freddie Freakin' Freeman looks like a 10 year stud first baseman.Comment

I'm honestly thinking that no matter how good Hanson is he'll start in AAA until at least mid-may.Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.

Re: 2009 Atlanta Braves
And in not so unexpected news, Chipper is out with a strained oblique suffered on a swing in yesterday's WBC game. Chipper is sadly becoming as fragile as Mike Hampton."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." - Rogers HornsbyComment

Re: 2009 Atlanta Braves
Eh, I think that's a bit harsh. It's March, guys pull and strain stuff frequently this time of year. Doesn't sound too serious. And yeah, he'll have his nagging things pop up periodically during the year, but for the other 130 or so games, he's money.Comment

Re: 2009 Atlanta Braves
The more games he plays in the WBC - the less games he plays in the regular season. Chipper knows his body can't hold up from March-October...It's a sad realization but he probably won't even play 110 games this year.Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.

Re: 2009 Atlanta Braves
I guess I'll go out on a limb and predict the usual 120 games from him. I don't think it will be less than that and we all know it definitely won't be 150 like he always says he's aiming for every season.Comment

Re: 2009 Atlanta Braves
I knew he shouldn't have gone to the WBC...

Chipper Jones left the United States team at the World Baseball Classic and headed to Orlando to be examined after he aggravated an injury to his side.
"It's a strain of the oblique," Jones said. "It's something you have to get off of for four or five days and go from there. This is something you don't want lingering. If you take care of it now, I certainly don't see there being any problems going forward.
"It's something that's really bugging me and progressively getting worse. ... I felt it coming on in Canada. This was pain. This was cutting-off-my-swing pain."
