I envy their success. That is why I hate Duke. Coach K always has them fundamentally prepared and mentally tough. Why can't my favorite team do this? Yes they flop, yes they seem arrogant, yes they get a lot of questionable calls, but mainly I hate that they are this successful!

Don't worry I'm in the same boat you are with him. He did the same thing to me about a month ago when I said I was a Hoosier Basketball fan and a Fighting Irish football fan(even though I clearly said I root for IU football and ND basketball too).

I honestly don't care what people think of me on a message board. It's a little annoying, but at the end of the day I know what I am and what I am not. I've been a fan of the teams I'm fans of since I was 5 and knew nothing about sports. And as I said earlier, unfortunately I didn't go to a College with sports teams, so what the hell do you want me to do?

To me, bandwagoners are ones who constantly switch teams or ones that randomly(randomly as in.. no connection to the team whatsoever) choose teams that are always good and are easy teams to be fans of(since they're winning all the time).

Re: Why do you hate Duke?

My main reason doesn't have so much to do with Duke itself - though I do think in the past they have received preferential treatment from officials, I didn't notice it nearly as much this season - but moreso in the fact that, during my middle- and high-school years, EVERY annoying Virginia Tech football fan (as opposed to not-annoying Virginia Tech fans, they do indeed exist) was also a Duke basketball fan (this was before Virginia Tech had achieved respectability in basketball and before UVa basketball had fallen on its face). That pissed me off more than anything. Pick one school or the other and go with it.

Also, I'll admit, I hated them because they were good.

I couldn't find it in me to really "hate" this year's Duke squad though. They don't have that one annoying or hateable player, in the likes of flop-tacular Shane Battier, or the unstoppable shooter like JJ Redick, or that stupid Lee Melchioni who seemed to make every. last. pressure. jumpshot the Devils ever needed. In fact this year's team even has some players I respect, namely Nolan Smith, who strikes me as a good ball player and a better person.

Tried googling it in every way possible. NOTHING. One I talked ill of Dean Smith I at least provided links to support my arguement. All I have from you is I saw some footage of it back in 95. Heck I can say I saw Dean Smith on a show back in 95 say K was a piece of ****, but I'd at least be expected to back it up. I already busted you on that JR Reid crap, and the other lies that are protrayed by UNC fans that are known as "fact" too. I'm thinking this one isn't any different. 'Just review the timeline from that revealing season. First, realize that K did not pack it in until after the twelfth game. Apparently the pain and exhaustion were bearable as the team started out with a 9 - 2 record and a top ten national ranking. The early record was accomplished in usual Krzyzewski fashion, by trouncing various cupcakes, (e.g., mighty Brown University by 42, North Carolina A & T by 43, South Carolina State by 46, Northeastern by 23, George Washington by 30, and BU by 17). It was only when he tested the waters of the forthcoming conference schedule, with a home loss to Clemson, that our hero could no longer continue. Strange how the specter of a difficult conference schedule exacerbated that exhaustion and back pain. How convenient they left out the wins over Illinois, and Michigan eh?

LMAO @ that piece of garbage the paragraph before. We had Georgia Tech up next a team we had beat a week earlier in the Rainbow Classic. The same tournament K had to lie in the ailse because he couldn't sit in his seat, and still tried to coach through the Clemson game. Dude was white and gray colored sitting on the bench. Yeah I'm sure a difficult conference schedule where Duke was in all but 2 games the entire season is what made K shut it down. It's been documented many times where Mickie gave them the ultimatum of either shut it down or I'm leaving you. K wanted to continue health be damned. But the following paragraph where it has Carter say he was "up and around" is just so 100% true.

Re: Why do you hate Duke?

I respect Coach K and I love what the Crazies have done for college basketball when it comes to atmosphere, as an SEC football fan I can respect that.

That said I don't like Duke basketball because of situations like this last tourney, Duke and one other game on in one of the later rounds, Duke game has 12 mins to go and Duke has a double digit lead, other game has 10 mins to go and is a 2 point game...They didn't switch games until the other game was in the last minute. (I believe this was the K-State v Xavier game, but I honestly don't remember exactly and don't want to get the teams wrong as the content I am 100% positive about, trust me my wife can attest to all my bitching.)

I will openly admit that I started rooting for Duke Football on December 14, 2007...how you like them apples?!?

Are. You. Serious? You act like some holier-than-thou Duke fan who is entitled for ME to provide you a link. Newsflash: everything that has ever come on tv is NOT available through youtube or some other online video outlet. The SI article link was easy to find, but I guess you're going to question that. Why don't you just call up SI or Vince Carter and ask them about it because I'm not gonna do it for you. And if you wanna say Smith called K a piece of **** on a show in '95, I'd actually take your word for it because WHY WOULD YOU LIE? WHY WOULD I LIE? However you DO know that in a game versus Roy Williams while he was at Kansas, Coach K shouted to him, "If you ever come to the ACC I'm gonna whoop your ***!" right? That was in a book I read, but of course if I give you the title, page number, and publication info, you're gonna have something smart to say about it and shoot it down.

And you didn't "bust" me on any J.R. Reid crap. I'm glad Dean Smith stuck up for his player, because Cameron Crazies have picked on opposing players' looks, weight, intelligence, etc. Many fans do that, but a lot of Duke fans think you can't say something about one of THEIR players.

And I LOVED how Gerald Henderson dropped a Randy Savage-esque elbow on Tyler Hansbrough's nose, and K said Gerald Henderson was the victim! You really want me to provide a link for that because that should be fresh in you memory to address. He questioned why Williams would have Hansbrough in the game at that point. What? Because you have a starter in a game that isn't in doubt anymore, it's OKAY for one of your players to come in crouching tiger hidden dragon style and elbow that starter in the nose? Come on man. That's ALMOST as bad as Laetner STEPPING on a guy's chest! Oh right...Laetner didn't see him laying on the floor right? Or was it that the guy had a bug on his chest?

How can anyone justify Henderson's thuggish elbow attack or Laetner doing the Riverdance on a player's chest? Don't run and find something another player on another team did; address THAT.

The fans, the flops, and the overhyping of certain players.

The flopping pisses me off like no other. The NCAA put in that BS imaginary line to help but all it did was make it worse. Seeing big guys take charges on guards out on the perimeter is wrong. Battier took it to whole different level when he was there.

Off the top of my head the only Dook players I have liked are Grant Hill, Brand, Maggette, Deng, and now Smith.

My Hoyas have had home & home's for the past few years but the Verizon Center is more like a neutral court when Dook comes to town.

That Laettner "stomp" is the main reason I HATE Dook. That action and his "explanation" sums up what I feel is their entire elitist attitude and that's why I hate them.
