No info on that.
Coach profiles/playbooks are already in the game. Points of emphasis does what defensive settings did before.

I'd still like an in depth explanation on exactly how POE works.

I guess where my confusion lies, and I have the game, is in the fact that I don't understand what people want from 2K with the defense. The rotations look proper to me when I play. I don't think the old settings are necessary - just a proper explanation of the new ones. All NBA defense is based on rotations, playing passing lanes, and/or trapping. You can do all those things with the current POEs. And do them effectively. I think cats are of the mindset that "OH! Ray Allen got an open shot! How did that happen if I have it set on play tight?" Well, Ray Allen gets open looks sometimes. So does Kobe. So does Durant. Not every time. But due to the way defenses rotate and close out to deny penetration, yes, even superstars get wide open looks. Watch today's SportsCenter to see Paul George take a ridiculously wide open 3. I guess Spolestra forgot to tell them to play him tight?

What the Dec said makes sense. Prior gen, the basic fundamentals of NBA defense were being contradicted by the settings provided to the user. I love the new POEs and think we all just need time to adjust to the new way to approach the game.

Lastly, the thing I really love about this game is that it appears the CPU really does dynamically adjust their POEs based on what I do. So its a constant battle to actually - gasp - coach my team throughout the game. I am absolutely floored with the depth of this game. My only gripe is with the HOF difficulty but that's nothing new. They artificially make me miss wide open, uncontested layups too much. One, OK, but I missed 5 at point blank range to stop a run I had. Plus one was a breakaway dunk. So I'm on Superstar.

You need to read this thread further, because your claim that rotations are correct have already been debunked by video evidence. We're talking about helping 1 pass away from a simple pick and roll. Also, you and Dec are completely wrong in saying that this is the way to go. This is NOT the way to go. I have no idea what you mean by "basic fundamentals being contradicted". It's completely wrong. The defensive settings MUST come back. There's no debate here.

I wonder if Zach is ever gonna give us that primer on POE...

I never write anything no where... I just read your great threads and answears!

But i must say to all! I love this years def in 2k14!

The game is all about flow and read what the other team try to do! Do they have a lot of 3 p´s shooters on the floor. Put in def settings Play close to shooters or what the name is. And if there is still a player gets hot and makes shoots all the the time. Put in this setting to in def, play key def on this player.

If the other team try to pass the post player all the time! chose limint inside shoots and key on player.

I think you need do changes a lot to make it work. I Play simulation and super star and no changes in Sliders! And it works whit me! Some times when i am tierd and just play i lose the games whit 10-40 p. But when i am in fokus and reely try to think what the other team is doing or wanna do. I Win games from 2 -45 p. Or lose whit some points!

A other thing how make big diffrens if you gona win games by Def is you need to have a good coach at def and players how understand to play def.

When i do some misses in def like jump on a shoot fake and the guy drive to basket and helps come. IF you have good coach and good players in def. They will rotate realy good! Still this is basketball games..It is about to score.. and even if you do your best you will let in points. But how you let em in is up to you. I think you can close out 3 ps .. But choise your posion!

I think pepole how complain about the game is pepole how use 1 player or 2 and think they will do all the work. And they like arcade game more then real sim games. Then you shuld go back to LIVE and not play 2k.

My self is a guy soon 30 y old, i am wokring as a basketball coach in real life. this is first time ever i fell 2k makes the game challening for my mind to. I reely love it and all about the def and offens!

But still need improve MY Gm how i think is WAAAK at moment.. =/

Where the lack of individual settings show up is in pick and roll defense. That has to be back.

I just picked up a PS4 and 2K14 today and the defensive settings are there. I haven't downloaded the patch yet but I am having problems players leaving players.

The issue I am having you can't change or adjust them during the game.

2K need to add the defensive settings back!

Put both in the game, people just choose between POE or Defense Settings.

You make several interesting points. However the POE settings are inferior to the previous defensive settings. There are many options that are simply not there using POE. With the previous settings you could construct your defense to suit your personnel and team style. With Miami you could "hard hedge" on every pick... double the post etc. Until the developers give us a detail explanation as to what each POE REALLY does, we will struggle. And even knowing what they do, there will still be gaps in what we can do.

Solution? Give us the options to choose POE or defensive settings... as many have mentioned in previous post.
