Jwill says its not even an option to use the 2. 1 is greyed out if 1 of them is picked. It makes sense...Basketball Playbooks

But you can't midgame? That would be kinda dumb. They may have removed it just for consistency (which would be a terrible reason).Comment

Re: Defensive Settings Completely Removed from Next-Gen.
It's not just detail but realism. No coach goes, "key on Lebron, but if they dump it to Wade... I don't have a gameplan."wow, i'm shocked that they removed this. they'd better put it back in 2k15. talk about removing a sim feature.
it strikes me as a move to make the game more "casual-friendly" by trying to streamline the settings into something simpler. it's fine to include that, but don't completely remove the more detailed version...some of us like detail.Comment

Re: Defensive Settings Completely Removed from Next-Gen.
Hasn't this been in the game for several years though? Just dribble into another defender and it sucks the defender into an animation leaving a shooter open. Often happens when you post up in traffic toopoe alone is not enough van.
It allows a good user or the cpu to manipulate the defense once you know your opponents poe. Anyone who wants to test this out should play against the clippers on hof sim. Chris paul will dribble around in circles until a defender sags and then he will either throw an oop or pass for a corner three pointer.
As time passes and people get more familiar with the game a good user will know how to trigger help and get an open shot at will. It has turned me into a 50 percent off ball defender because I know when the sag will trigger so I switch to that defender to prevent the open look.Originally posted by Dogslax41Most people that are asking for a simulation game don’t really want a simulation game because its too hard.Comment

Re: Defensive Settings Completely Removed from Next-Gen.
How does flex even work? Which one takes priority and when? The AI so far for me has done quite well in determining who is a shooter and who is not.
But yes you could do both.
In the Rondo + 3pt shooter scenario, I would have chose "nothing inside" and then for my flex PoE (there is 1 offensive, 1 defensive and 1 flex choice) I would go with "limit perimeter shots" or maybe make the defensive one "perimeter" and the flex "inside".
So you can have 2 defensive PoEs or 2 offensive ones at the same time.
And since we can't have limit perimeter and nothing inside together, we can't deal with the situation of Rondo plus shooters, right?
Is it really true that the POE system even with flex can't even try to address with the most ideal NBA offense-- a team with both inside and outside scorers?
What I don't want to overhelp with wings and concede threes but do want to sag off, soft hedge, and help with bigs on Rondo?
It's kind of bizarre to have POE options for casuals but it's not clear what those options do exactly to casuals OR hardcore guys who understand schemes. At least the old quick d settings showed you exactly what was going on.Last edited by Sundown; 11-19-2013, 11:53 PM.Comment

Re: Defensive Settings Completely Removed from Next-Gen.
Honestly it's more of a pick your poison type system. If I'm facing the Warriors I'm going to try to limit outside shots to force them off the perimeter. If I'm facing the Pacers I wanna force outside shots and limit inside. A team like the heat it's harder to decide which way to go. But IMO it's what makes then difficult to beat. Again not saying the extra options shouldn't be there , obviously they should but POE really keeps you engaged on who's guarding who and what this or that teams weakness is IMOHow does flex even work? Edit: on a team with Rondo + shooters I would key in on Rondo and limit Outside shots . Or play conservative and limit transition.Last edited by Rockie_Fresh88; 11-20-2013, 12:04 AM.#1 Laker fan

Re: Defensive Settings Completely Removed from Next-Gen.
But it doesn't. It only allows generic instructions and DOESN'T let you tailor your defenses to multiple player's weaknesses and strengths. It forces you to treat a team as its strongest player rather than the mixture all teams try to be. This works on teams with one great strength or one great weakness. This doesn't minimize damage against mixed personnel.Honestly it's more of a pick your poison type system. There's picking your poison and then there's gulping it down.
Example: Tony Parker gets too much penetration.
Solution: Hide Steph Curry on Danny Green and have him play tight. Meanwhile, sag on Parker to force jumpshots and bring help from the bigs but try not to leave Green.
POE Version: Nothing inside for Parker. Everyone help. And if he passes... Well, I guess we're screwed.
More examples:
Force Westbrook into jumpers. But don't ever leave Durant open unless you can help it. Sag and soft hedge with your bigs.
POE: Everyone help on Westbrook and sag. Including whoever's guarding Durant.
Really?Last edited by Sundown; 11-20-2013, 12:13 AM.Comment

Re: Defensive Settings Completely Removed from Next-Gen.
I watched jwills live stream today. He showed me some of the poe's. He had take away outside shots on and physical flex. The CPU AI would drive and pass to melo, bargnani, and jr smith for immediate shots still. They were killing him with him using POE exactly how the team was hurting him and he was playing it perfectly to take this away. His CPU player was sagging off still way to far and by the time he recovered it was to late.
I think if you had the POE and that combo with old system somehow it could be great. I like the idea for on the fly defensive play calling without calling a timeout. But the old coaching mode needs to return. It can't be pick your poison. That's not realistic or true to life.
Yes to counter this in NG you would have to play off ball defense for sure...Last edited by vannwolfhawk; 11-20-2013, 12:46 AM.Basketball Playbooks

Personally I haven't had problems defensively. If I lost it was because I was outplayed.Last edited by Rockie_Fresh88; 11-20-2013, 01:19 AM.#1 Laker fan

Re: Defensive Settings Completely Removed from Next-Gen.
People are quick to say pick your poison, but real good defensive teams control the offense they don't let the offense control them. Otherwise every team with an elite ballhandler, and shooters would score at will. Its not like the Clippers get an open shot every time they run a pick and roll. The saying you have to give up something does not mean the offense will always get a high percentage look simply by spacing the floor and running said play.I watched jwills live stream today. Re: Defensive Settings Completely Removed from Next-Gen.
WOW! It's confirmed!
Defensive Settings WERE in the game pre-patch! I just reinstalled without the patch and they're there!
They're available in the pre-game Lineup/Matchup settings. You can scroll through them using L1 and R1. Default is Guarded By. Doubles, Pick & Roll, Hedge, it's ALL THERE.
In fact, there's a NEW option for Double Teams called "BOUNDARIES"! YOU COULD TRAP IN CORNERS!!
The limitation is that you can't set anything for non-starters (just like current gen at the pre-game matchup screen, except you could mid-game in coaching).
WHY WERE THESE REMOVED?!Comment

Re: Defensive Settings Completely Removed from Next-Gen.
Wow! Boundaries too? That's awesome! Maybe these were meant to be in and they are fixing something? Let's hope because it sounds like the combo of both would be near perfect and a huge step in defensive game planning.WOW! It's confirmed!
