Re: 2K Gameplay is too stale/basic
I just played a game against the Knicks. They toasted me for 64 points in the first half, and made 9 3s. I switched up my defensive POE and made a real effort to control dudes off ball to limit their 3s.
They only made 1 in the 2nd half, and I held them to 46. Also I was doubling really intelligently on Melo and held him to 12/27 shooting.
Not to mention the numerous loose ball scraps and rebpunding battles.
I can only speak for offline MyGM and the ability to alter sliders, but this game is far, far from stale.Comment

Re: 2K Gameplay is too stale/basic
one thing that does bother me is that the CPU seems to get at least half of its points off of last-second contested shots. that is a pattern that you do see over and over. the cpu will try to run a play or something…then that doesn't work, so with 5 seconds left on the shot clock, the ball handler will do a little hesitation and either jack up a contested jumper and make it...or he'll do the hesitation and drive to the rim for a layup or get fouled with 1 second left on the shot clock. the CONSISTENCY with which this happens is frustrating and pretty obvious. the CPU gets bailed out way too much on forced shots late in the shot clock. no matter what you do on defense, they will get bailed out in order to consistently score and stay the game. it's annoying, but doesn't ruin the game for me. i realize that the CPU needs to get bailed out in these situations sometimes otherwise you'd blow them out every game.Last edited by blues rocker; 01-05-2015, 07:16 AM.Comment

I think the thread rating impacts whether the devs who visit the site click on the link or not. A low rated thread will probably be skipped over, which means that even good feedback gets passed up.Didn't know people paid attention to that kind of thing in forums in 2015....it's literally never had an impact on if I decide to click on a.thread or not, I'm on my phone most of the time so I can't see thread ratings anyway ....so yeah, maybe I do have it twisted if that's still a "thing"
It's inconsistent. I played a few My Career games last night, and I have a huge issue with my player stopping after catching the ball. I am almost always moving on offense unless the play that's called has me standing still, but I still get forced to stop on the catch about 50% of the time, and even more than that when I'm trying to run a fast break.the part in bold above is incorrect. if you hold the left stick in the direction the receiver is moving just before he catches the ball and keep holding it forward, he will seamlessly catch the ball and continue dribbling without stopping. this is one of the great things about 2k15, because you couldn't do that in previous years, but 2k finally gave you the ability to queue up a "moving catch" by holding the left stick forward as the ball is received.Comment

I agree with the OP on some things. A few portions of the game definitely need some work. I think a lot of the speed/closeout issues can be resolved if they add true footplanting and momentum. Right now, guys can change directions on a dime and go from a standstill to closeout speed in a snap because of the sliding and lack of footplanting. It doesn't happen 100% of the time, but it does happen often enough to notice that it's an issue. The speed/momentum/footplanting issue also affects guys coming off screens. I've never seen a player come off a screen and burst to the outside for a really nice catch and shoot three, a la Ray Allen. Footplanting is a humongous part of having a consistent jumper, especially off the catch, and right now, it doesn't exist.

Currently, guys feet just slide into place for the jump shot, instead of them planting their feet for it.

The boxout system needs a complete overhaul. I play mostly My Career, with a little Association sprinkled in, and it always bothers me how easily the CPU can box me out. Even if I'm running full speed toward the hoop, I immediately stop and get sucked into the boxout animation when a CPU player is nearby (unless the shot is going to go in, then I can magically get into good position for an offensive board). That alone wouldn't be horrible, but the fact that there is no control to fight around the box out just makes it an annoyance. I can't spin, I can't juke around them, I can't even give up on the rebound and try to get back on defense because I'm locked into the animation until they let me go. On the other side of the ball, even if I'm in position and trying to box them out, I will often just slide out of place and give up the offensive rebound.Comment

I think the game has made major strides but I do see what you mean. It doesn't feel very organic, and as much as we try to simulate real life, it's just very difficult to do. I really thought the addition of Beds was going to solve the roster issue but it still seems broken so i guess they've got him on a leash or something.Student of the game. #Fundamentals

Re: 2K Gameplay is too stale/basic
Don't get me wrong 2K is still miles ahead of any other sports game and even non sports games in terms of quality. They've built up a great tittle over the years but now it's time to really build on that.
My biggest problem and the thing I was highlighting is that one thing 2K hasn't touched on was distinguishing different play styles. Which lead me to compile a list of all those things you see almost every pay in the NBA that is impossible in 2K.
Like splitting the screen, coming of a screen and going right into a smooth jump shot, quick moves to create space for a shot ( a la lilliards entire offense ).
Basically in 2K it dosen't matter who you are, all SFs pay the same, all SGs play the same, and the same for the others. I never see anything in 2K that would highlight how Steph curry is the best shooter in the world. in 2K he doesn't come off a screen and just pull up smoothly life he does for 80% of this 3s. In fact in 2K he only takes open shots and doesn't play the mid range.
If they add those things and just general more aggression in movement. I can see 2K winning game of the year on some sites.Last edited by UConcord11; 01-05-2015, 09:11 AM.Comment

Re: 2K Gameplay is too stale/basic
If I told you I rarely lose because the game is predictable would you believe me.I don't see any of those things at all.
1. I see the CPU shoot with different times left on the clock not just last few seconds. Some times CPU shoots with 5 seconds on shoot clock other times 10 other times 20 ect.
2. I see the CPU doing a lot of pick and roles and a lot of ball movment so they play great basketball
3. I have seen the CPU miss pletty of lose type of shoots.
4. Again I don't see and that was a big issue last year has last year like ever time you would block a shoot the CPU would get the ball back and score no matter what.
5. I have seen some hands though balls but very few and all sports games have issues with parts of players going throw onther players or the ball.
6. The CPU Is far form predectable
7. Could be better but some teams will shoot more jump shoots then others and some will try to score in the paint some.
8. Kind of like 7 could be better but I wouldn't say you cant tell any difference at all like you say.
I have to say I think you just suck at the game and are made about it because I don't see any of those things at all or not has much has you say or even close.
I use time out's, I force the ball downlow when in shooting slumps, I run plays every possession, I walk the ball up the court.
Only 2 players I have issues locking down in Westbrook and Durant.
Just because people complain doesnt mean they suck.
Hate that someone mentioned the crowd, never noticed it. Now it's all I see.Comment

Half the time the CPU will run a play to curl a shooter off a screen and you can see it coming from a mile away and 99% they'll try to force the curler the ball no matter what. You can just switch on to a big guy and camp out where he'll catch the ball for a deflection or an easy steal.
This has been a problem for multiple years.Comment

Re: 2K Gameplay is too stale/basic
Now I know you're lying. You say you play great on ball d and lock everyone down, but the cpu kills you with circus shots. Also, you say you never get rewarded for great d. You say you force the ball downlow but your bigs are useless. You contradicted all of your original issues with the game in your op with your last post man. C'monIf I told you I rarely lose because the game is predictable would you believe me.

Re: 2K Gameplay is too stale/basic
Don't really agree with much of this at all...guys like Derrick Rose/Russell Westbrook feel like blurs compared with say an MCW who is more deliberate....it's actually one of my favorite things about the game, and what keeps it fresh for me...players feel different.Comment

Re: 2K Gameplay is too stale/basic
I think a lot of the restriction people feel is centered around how on-ball defense handled.
2k mostly restricts movement through collisions instead of footwork ,giving ground and 'stealing angles'.
Thats why you cant run the baseline like Steve Nash, or split the pick and roll like Kyrie.Comment

However if you, like many vets here, understand 2k's "meet force with force system" you can open up movement a bit more and smoothly curl off screens.Comment

Re: 2K Gameplay is too stale/basic
Yeah that's true. I think that's the one of the issues with this game is that its to fast. When transitioning up the court the players are like on a race and there is slow down. When I played live I was amazed how at how realistically the game resembles the NBA atmosphere with the slow walk ups, the amount of missed shots, rebounding and scoring droughts.
In 2k it seems like they don't miss enough and there is no strategy for this situation. Even though the way the scoring changes form points of emphasis. Everything is so fast and not enough missed shots(this is all pertaining to the CPU gameplay, they seem a bit jacked up on offense).
If live would improve on the in the paint play for more contact and control of altering shots, also increase the break downs off of the dribble this game would be awesomeComment
