I always figure that the animation engine is doing its best to show what the combination of user input and dice rolls under the hood say should happen. On screen your user input says you got your defender out of position and should be able to do a blowby. The old gods of RNG (the part of the game that keeps stats somewhat sim and not too NBA Jammy) say, "No. your defender gets a saving throw and stops your drive." Sure, it's not a perfect solution, but it's also the part of the game that gives your crappy bench point guard a fighting chance against Wall, Rose, or Westbrook on defense.
Best thing to do is live with it and work harder to beat the RNG next time out. For the time being, pass the danged ball to a teammate or run a play or call for a pick or use the much-improved post-up game to dominate. If every play results in a turbo drive into the paint, it becomes unexciting. Successful iso drives should be relatively rare. Drives off of set plays and backdoor cuts should be where most of the points inside come from for wings and guards.
