Re: NBA 2K17 Prelude Feedback Thread

My question, are we going to be forced to play the pres story line? Last year being forced to play as freak was a turn off for me. I'm just a normal guy like most of us, and I want to live MY STORY.

I'm not a huge NBA fan, I ONLY play myplayer. I don't think I played a single game in 16 outside of myplayer. I buy this every year because I want to pretend I'm a NBA superstar, I have no desire to live out someone else's life.

I'm hoping once we get to the NBA we can leave the president nickname behind. NBA 16 never felt like a personal experience to me.

I gotta say, the glare on the backboards (broadcast camera) looks like frost or something. Not a good look.

edit- I take this back. That was during the championship game. But it looks better in the Olympic game. Tho the rim does seem a tad small.

The story is way more normal this year, none of the weird drama from last year, at least not yet

The game feels just like 2k16 to me, apart from some new animations, shot meter, and general appearance. I hadn't picked up 2k16 in like 6 weeks and it was just like jumping back into it, everything was pretty intuitive which is good.

The new shot meter was really distracting because initially you're watching it instead of the player shooting. I always shoot by watching the player and feel, and check the meter after the shot. That's why I wish they included a practice mode so I could try and get comfortable with different shot releases and ignore the meter.

I hope i'll eventually get used to timing layups. I'm way off:

            - when i try to change shot mid air, sometimes it doesn't even work and he just releases the ball instead of double clutching
            - when i get an attempt that looks like it will be a dunk but ends up being a layup
            - even on many contact layups because a lot of them look like they should be a shooting foul, so i hold the button to make sure i get the whistle but it never comes.

It sounded good in theory but so far i'm not a fan.

Also the delay on dribble moves, although improved, is still too noticeable for me. All thanks to double use of the right stick of course since the game needs a moment to figure out whether you're trying to dribble or shoot. I wish they'd just have us hold a modifier button in order to use the right stick for shooting. Logic dictates that without separating those controls this input delay will never go away.

How are some people getting the cutscenes with the girlfriend?

The way that the shot meter will hit the end and go back down, it's impossible to tell if I didn't hold the shot enough (hasn't reached the end of the meter) or if I held it a bit too long (hit the top of the meter and came back down).

Am I missing something here? Maybe there's another tell?

Re: NBA 2K17 Prelude Feedback Thread

Prelude is the most frustrating 2k experience I ever had. You literally cannot get over 15 points in a game without being double teamed the moment you touch the rock. The advantage to this is that you can get easy assists and high teammate grade, but the draft stock is apparently only affected by points, period. And if you play what you THINK is good, like 20 points, 5 assists, 3 rebounds, 2 steals/blocks, the press and 24 seconds with blah blah cutscenes are still going to destroy you because you somehow didn't manage to drop 35 in a 2 quarter game at 6 minutes where you get subbed out for half of each quarter. So instead of being able to do dribble moves on my matchup with my shot creator SG or even have the privilege to call PICKS, I have to spam sprint to get around double teams all day or force everything to get points. I had almost zero fun playing this.

And also play more college games there 10 teams to pick from why not play 9 games in college . i think i spent 2 hrs on my player face and appearance. And as much playing through the prelude. To short, they could of released this on tuesday or the night before release.

I get what you are saying bro but whilst that may suit you and some other guys who want a more immersive almost sim like experience (like me), the hundreds of thousands of kids that will get this game for Christmas who's sole purpose is to bomb 3's like Curry in the NBA wont want to spend the first 4 hours of this game playing in college. So I get both sides, I think the 5 games is a nice balance.

I absolutely loved it. Have been playing 2KU over and over. Came across a little glitch where I was only get the ball off of a rolling inbound if it touched my leg first or if I dived for the ball.

That's why having an option would have been wonderful (extended version vs standard version).

I'm not even a college basketball guy (but do like March Madness), but if the mode was more extensive, I'd welcome it with open arms. I've even developed an itch for college basketball just from the few games alone.

My impressions so far (after ~10-15 games):

                              Pros

Very fun and responsive dribbling (even for a low stick skilled player like me).
                              Less stickiness of defence

AI players cuts to the basket are nice
                              More blocking foul calls

                              Better CPU defensive rotations

Great finishing animation near the rim with either hands avoiding the defense.

Battle for rebounds is great (Even saw a tip out of my C after a missed free throw!!!)

Less blocks (For me at least).

                              Cons

On broadcast the shot stick remains up/down instead of left/right

Need to ballhog and play unrealistic to get drafted high

CPU teammates still pass on some open shots/drive into defence

Still not enough fatigue but i guess it's only in the demo.

Pick&Roll AI defence is still not close to perfect- should wait for final release to examine this.

My impressions after finishing the Prelude + having two 2KU games.

--The voice actor they have for the main character this year is way more pleasing than last year's guy.

--The graphics/art hasn't improved. Suspension of disblief is still breakable. Still need to see what it's like playing in an NBA arena though. There's something about the player skin that looks fake.

--The popup tips during the 2KU game were infuriating because they kept breaking the flow, which made it hard to get some reps going and get a feel for the new controls. "To pass, press pass". Ok thanks.

--The way players run & move feels the same as years ago. Which means the shelf life will be lesser for me.

--Passing feels great. Ball movement is more fun.

                                --Shooting animations are awesome.

--Itching to play with some NBA teams!
