No, it still happens. A lot. Both sides of the ball, so at least I don't always feel cheated. It's a pretty silly thing to be happening. I can't see it not being on the developer's radar, so I just assume it's going to be fixed eventually.

seven patches in i think we can give up on that hope. i think a lot of us have learned their lesson buying 2k next year. wait until the xmas sales for 40%-50%, IF the offline gameplay is fundamentally on point. i'm so tired of being disappointed, so tired.

shame... i really hope this gets addressed before 2k18. not sure if it's 2k's way of making the game more realistic because things like this do happen in the nba, but it should be user error, and not this scripted nonsense.

not my video, but a perfect example of this problem.

Re: Blown Defensive Rotations: Sim or Broken logic?

One of the weirdest things I've seen as far as the defensive issues in this game.

The crazy part is that when I play offline the CPU seems to always pick up my players in transition with no problem. Yet somehow when I'm playing the CPU gets dumbed down to ridiculous levels. That's what makes it so frustrating because you know that the CPU is capable of playing defense the right way.

If 2K wants to lower the CPU defensive awareness for your teammates so that they're not doing everything for you on defense then that's fine imo. However, there is no reason them to be running out of bounds and giving up wide open lanes to the basket on inbound passes.

It's been in the game since release. And for it to still be in the game after several patches is hideous.

Wrong. This type of defense does not happen in the NBA in this manner. There is no excuse, none for this type of A.I. behavior. It's a bug that's been in the game far to long.

Re: Blown Defensive Rotations: Sim or Broken logic?

I recently played a playoff series against the Warriors in MyGM and the CPU perimeter defense was simply brutal. Anything around the arc was impossible to defend. They would have 4 people running around the perimeter and buried like 60+% of 3's in the series simply because they were wide open. An off-ball double screen looked like a labyrinth to any defender on my team, regardless of skill. It seems like defenders in this game get sucked into the slowest of animations and always end up out of position to contest. I made adjustments to the on- and off-ball pressure settings as well as the screen settings (switch, hedge, etc) and the wide open 3's were still always there. I get that logic is hard to create in these games but the CPU guys absolutely cannot stay close enough to shooters in any type of rotation.

It's crazy after 10 patches this still happens. Jimmy than Klay drift out of bounds while the person they supposed to guard is bring the ball up.

Here's one of the many examples I see every game:

Look at Powell on the far right, just hanging out near the bench chillin like its not the Conference Finals vs Cleveland late in the 3rd quarter. He stays there doing nothing while Smith is left alone at the three point line so I'm forced to switch to him and manually move him to his assignment. In this case, nothing came of it as Kyrie was bringing up the ball fairly slowly, but every game I play I see 5+ situations like this one where it leads to an easy bucket by the CPU or for myself (the AI has have their own brainfarts as well). Once it happened right after a timeout with a few seconds left, allowing the CPU to immediately dart the ball to the open man and hit the game winning shot and no chance for me to take control since the transition from Coach Mode to live play happened instantly.

I'm not as down as others on the game as I've learned to live with babysitting every one of my defenders and blown assignments do happen in basketball all the time, but you can see that most of these are due to the fact that the AI just "spazzes" out not knowing where they are supposed to be. Other times, your AI teammates get stuck in a celebratory animation where even if you switch manually you won't be able to get into the running animation and the opponent's guy is already at the other side of half-court, waiting to cherry pick an easy layup.

And lets not talk about the CPU's (teammate or opponent AI) pick & roll defense, which leads to way too many easy cuts to the basket. You basically have to switch defenders constantly in order to even put up a fight as Sam Pham preaches in his videos, but it can get annoying as. It seems that NBA 2k has caught the FIFA defensive teammate AI bug, which renders all defenders controlled by the AI mentally and physically incapacitated.

I just hope they improve on this further for 2k18 as I do like a lot of stuff that 2k17 brought to the table in terms of strategy. But given the state of the defensive AI right now, a lot of those options go unused since they barely work at all like they're supposed to.

The CPU can't even properly pick up its man in transition. It's literally backpedaling out of bounds, I mean come on now. And this is with my onball/offball settings set to Auto. I give up about 5-10+ points every game just off the strength of the AI being absolutely clueless about what they're supposed to do.
if anyone can confirm that this has been fixed, or rather if they've seen this happen since the patch, please let me know. i don't have the game installed, and only get 3mbps down... if it's fixed i may re-d/l.

I have not seen that happen myself, now it seemed more like they spotted up near the top of the restricted arc.
