Re: Things 2K need to fix for NBA 2K19

    1. One of the biggest things on my wishlist for 2K19 is a more physics-based game. Like it would be insane if we could get an interaction between speed and strength ratings.
    - If 2K19 can have "momentum-based" movements instead of the canned animations we have in 2K18. I understand there is difficulty in making a physics-based game in 2K19.
    - Something like a driving player attacking the basket and actually flying through the air in a "natural way", making "natural contact" with defensive players and drawing a more "natural looking foul".
    - Even during the dribble drive, it would be interesting to see a more physics-based contact all throughout the drive.
    - One key thing in making it more physics-based would be a player going off balance. Something like over-dribbling would be punished. There's no way a player can stay on balance after spinning and going behind the back dozens of times, and then still stopping on a dime and accelerating. Like Kyrie can, but he doesn't go side to side and cover the entire court when he does his dribble moves.

    2. Make the ball tangible at all times. Make arms and everything tangible. I understand this could create a lot of insane problems. Buuuuuuut, seriously it's really unrealistic when crazy phasing happens and body parts and the ball always go through each other.
    - In my opinion, blocks and steals would become more "organic and natural".
    - Losing the ball due to diving into traffic.

    3. Make the differences in ratings actually matter. Make faster players actually fast. Stronger players feel strong. Heavier players feel heavier. Explosive players more explosive than the average athlete.
    - Right now, another issue under this is equalize the CPU and Human ratings. When the sliders are on 50/50, the CPU has speed and acceleration advantages (and others) from what I've observed.

    4. Make button inputs more responsive. 2K18 did this part worse than 2K17. Somehow, the animations were so canned that the player would perform the action (mostly post moves) extremely late.

Re: Things 2K need to fix for NBA 2K19

Basically what the last post said. But, thing about the nba 2k series is its always relied on animation or tendency/odds based gameplay (not that that’s wrong) for their system. The sport of basketball..all sports are based on physics, so idealistically a game w/ a physics driven engine would be ideal especially for a physical game like basketball.

Just for purpose of an example, take a look at ea’s FIFA series. There are animations in FIFA currently. Though gameplay’s changed for the better to lean more around physical actions & a key to that is the way they’ve gotten player interaction down. Past tense the engine was animation driven, around a bit past halfway through the series they started inching in physics based aspects to the gameplay.
At about the 3rd/2nd installment they had first been introduced, the physics were pretty much locked in. Now they’ve not gotten everything down yet, since then the change has been noticed it it’s improvement & replayability that was generated through development. OT that was a puzzle piece to the better product they now have. I’ve gotten tired of match after match of fifa, but I’ve also went back to the game for the experience more times over 2k.

Thing for me is, think about this. Animations are used to animate. Cartoons/films are animated. Sports involve physical interactions between opponents. So, how am I supposed to feel when when I play a game of 2k expecting a fresh/exciting experience, but when I use a certain play/mechanic the same things happen. As if the same things were to happen if I watched a video I saw already. This is one thing that leads to 2k repetitiveness w/ a mass of their consumers. Sports gaming can become repetitive but their are things to do to counter that & 2k are running out of em.

Is the nba 2k series good, yes. Could it be/has it been better, yeah. Too much of a good thing can take a turn into something bad, & it seems like every year 2k add more animations. What they could do is find out ways to pocket in a little more physics here & a bit more their. Personally not familiar w/ programming, but could they try to either chop they’re engine in half & start their, or damn near scrap the whole thing into the trash. First option sounds the most logical. If they need to take annual years/a year off of releases to do so it wouldn’t hurt anything (maybe pockets) to try. All in all I’m pretty sure this is common knowledge to most. Nba 2k has flaw after flaw by ani’s which is why I’d vote for this approach. I know it ain’t easy developing a engine like frostbite, but the future of sports gaming isn’t a bunch of animations. Next 3 to 5 years w/ this mindset they might really have something.

How much smoother can you make transitions between animations look before you can’t improve much. The work sim communities do is great, even though devs are the ones who have actual keys to the workings in the game. For the sake of it, people do all possible to improve 2k sports basketball games gameplay, when all they should have to do is play.

SPACING! SPACING! SPACING! The court either needs to be bigger, or players smaller. The player-to-court ratio is slightly off. The lack of space leads to more turnovers & makes it easier for defenders to close out on open shooters.

Spacing has always felt off n on through the last couple of releases. Could be due to AI n their spacing. Either feels like the courts shrunk or players look over sized on court.

Good fix would be to start getting back to the basics. These over the top extremely graphical menus and transitions are way OD. I reminisce back to old 2k days where you could edit numerous things in under minutes. Now when you wanna switch up setting or look for something your waiting losing precious seconds/minutes. Not that I want a dusty looking menu, just don’t make me watch a commercial every time.
