I see with younger demo, they are used to having many options at their disposal because of tech and all and are a bit frustrated with certain things missing. With older players, we are kind of used to not having everything so widely available, so we make use of what we have to enjoy ourselves.

I say that to say, in the 1995 Offseason, the Toronto Raptors and Vancouver Grizzlies are on their way to the league. As with all expansion teams, there is an expansion draft.. with of course Expansion Draft protection players… I controlled all teams to oversee who is going and who is not, I don’t want players that are like dope superstars that didn’t play for Toronto or Vancouver getting selected… and that’s what happened.

Somehow, Penny Hardaway slipped and was selected by the Toronto Raptors for the first pick.. I was frustrated, but went into imagination mode and made a whole story in my head:

    ORLANDO, FL – Jun 22,1995

Brian Hill woke up to a panic call early this morning by the John Gabriel, VP of Basketball Operations with these three words after he answered the call: “We forgot Penny”
Brian Hill: “Wait, what do you mean? Its 3 A.M in the morning?”
Gabriel: “Brian, We are going to lose him. We forgot to protect him. Penny isn’t in our the protected list”

That’s right, Magic Fans. Penny Hardaway is on his way to either Toronto or Vancouver as teams submitted their lists the other day.

“We had no plans to trade or even move Penny Hardaway. We were planning to extend him even further, it was a costly error on our part. Now we have to figure out how to stop him from actually playing in Canada” said Gabriel, in a press conference this afternoon. He has also stated that they have been in contact with both GMs and are currently working on a deal.

“Draft picks, they can have them. Whatever must be done to get penny back in a Magic shirt after the Expansion draft, we will do.”

Asked if they were willing to trade Shaq to bring Penny back, John Gabriel let out a hearty laugh before answering: “Our plan is to keep these two under lock and key. Shaq isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, this only forces our hand to make sure he is taken cared of before he becomes a free agent himself next year”

Man this game is crazy! Stay tuned for part 2!
Man that’s hilarious. Reminds me of having to create scenarios in my head to explain how my all time superleague roster is able to exist.

Basically the NBA (not the government, not a trillion dollar tech company, but the nba) got a hold of proprietary DNA tech where they can remake anybody at any stage of their career. So they used that tech to create the ultimate nba superleague (not cure world hunger, not end wars, not end poverty, but make basketball players).

I've upgraded from the Xbox360 to Xbox One and am I again out of luck with certain features? I think I'm the oldest person posting on this thread at age 60+, I've read posts from page 1 to post ending and noticed our ages range from 35 to 50+. Nice to read everybody's reflections of there past NBA eras. I can reflect back to the 70's watching Wilt, West and Baylor on black and white TV with my dad. My mom even spoke of knowing Baylor personally and mentioned before he became a Laker, he visited with her and her brothers every summer. Like every one else that had posted, those eras are important to us because we lived it and can now relive it playing video games which is funny to me! As a musician I tell those younger cats, you're missing out with those live bands that was happening back then and probably won't see now. Same with how long it took for 2k to hear and make it happen for us classic old heads? Great that they listened and great thread to talk about it!!!

As an almost 40 year old (early next year), reading this thread while thinking about the days I grew up at the Omni in Atlanta watching "The Human Highlight Reel" do his thing with Spud Webb, Tree Rollins, Doc Rivers, and John Battle has driven me to purchase the game on PS5. It's downloading now and I'm excited to finally see if I can help the Hawks win it all! I haven't purchased a NBA 2K since 14, but now feels like the right time.

Thanks for this thread, it was a joy to read.

Do you have any advice to give? What is the best roster to download to add missing players?

I'm 42 and I feel the same. There are some little things that can still be better but MyEras is so much fun

I just arrived the 1984 Playoffs and The Lakers have to face The Suns. The Bulls still made the Playoffs but have to square off against Bernard King and The Knicks.

I'm looking forward to the 84 Draft trying to make All teams as accurate as possible

Love to see this! I'm 45 myself. I haven't bought this game in years.
Had a question before I jumped in here and got this one....

I wanted to know if the different eras' gameplay matched the different eras' style?
Is it more of a mid-range game vs. mostly 3's today?
Is there more of a post-up game in the gameplay of those eras?

I haven't enjoyed the current era's gameplay style of either all 3's or in-the-paint shots and would love being able to play bygone eras' style of mid-range and post-ups.

I appreciate any feedback you guys could give.

I feel like they play true to their eras for the most part. Also it seems they added way more cutscenes of players chirping at each other after fouls in the Magic Bird ‘80s era, and more hard fouls (along with less foul calls in general down low) in the Jordan ‘90s Era. The spacing is definitely different. Here’s a video posted by Da_Czar specifically pointing this out….

58 years old here and about to start a current era season with the Cavs. But now this post has me re-thinking if i should use a different era, an era from my youth. Perhaps a Cavs franchise with Daugherty, Hot Rod, Harper, Mark Price.

Thanks for making this post, i happened to read it at the exact right time to re-think how i want to proceed with my season mode.

I can definitely tell you that the gameplay style of the Magic/Bird ERA matches. It's mostly mid-range, post ups, and driving with very minimal 3 point shots. The most a team may shoot in a game is like 3-5; whereas the other team may take 1. The post game is brutal and tough to stop. A guy like Moses Malone is a straight up monster!

I can echo this. They did a pretty wonderful job, as everything seems to happen 22-feet and inward. Strong emphasis on post-play and middies with a consistent stream of post-foul contention if you let the animations play out.

The play style is so distinctive, in fact, that I’m a little concerned how I’ll adjust when I move into the newer eras.

I was thinking this too. When I first started my 80s era I was hacking threes like today’s game lol. I was like wait a minute, I need to stop that lol. Now I’m so adjusted to 80s style play I’m thinking I hope I can adjust back to modern times. I was also guarding the three point line which I finally figured out hey I don’t have to in the 80s.

As someone who grew up watching all of these eras play out, I cannot get over how good the immersion factor is with each individual era. They definitely all play differently, and (almost) how I expect them to play in that era.

Started a Magic Bird Era franchise with the Sixers led by Doc and Malone (this was the first basketball team I fell in love with as a kid at 7 years old lol)...and just knowing the teams how I know them from watching old film and stories, etc...The thought of getting Doc and Malone another championship through Magic, Bird, a young MJ, Ice Man....I recently watched an old video on youtube (NB80's that reminded me all about this era all over again).
Also started a Jordan Era Sonics/ Sixers franchise, doing a 'what-if' the sonics just never left Seattle and Barkley never leaving the Sixers.....Going through most of my formative years in the 90's and I'm just reliving all of the best jerseys and rivalries the league has ever seen.

....and of course started a Kobe Era Sixers Franchise trying to get AI a ring and make sure he never leaves Philly!

The difference in the style of play is really evident playing in these eras...and although probably not good for my eyes, the era-specific camera filters really add to the immersion. I honestly can't get over how fun all of this is and its something I can't even imagine having as a kid being such a huge NBA fan lol....in that sense, i consider myself lucky because I would not have done anything with my life but play video games! LMAO

I haven't even touched the Jordan Challenge or even had a thought of starting a Current Era Franchise (which is the only mode I normally play with each 2K purchase).

Just want to give a big shout-out to all of the 2K team for making a hell of a game and also the community roster creators for all their work on filling out the myera rosters.
I wish someone would start an "Old heads" League, I'm 56, grew up when Video games were born& love it. I Stay on Madden 2k, MLB the show & COD. A lil NHL & PGA too. lol.

Im interested to know how did you fare with your 3s in the 80s era? I was planning to do this as the one of the "breaker of the rule" of the 80s. Did the AI adjusted to you and how you play it? Thanks.
