Re: Sooo when will 2k stop using ps2 tech?
Umm, tbh this post sounds like a nba 2k10 player concerns. To me what you've written here are pretty much solved besides ''some'' blocking issues and also this game has its flaws but not as much as crucial as you've made up. And as long as you master the game controls and how the mechanics work, everything is possible downlow if you know how ofcourse. When I play a video game, player control and not getting sucked into animations are top priorities to me.
I'm tired of guiding my player around the court as he weaves his way in and out of different contextual animations that are supposedly there to represent momentum although my player moves in a direction I've never even pushed. I'm tired of grabbing an offense rebound and struggle trying to dribble out of the paint because all movement is basket orientated.
I'm tired of having a wide open lay-up where I finish with the hand farthest from the defender but the shot blocker who isn't even in position and starts out from a standing position (where's the momentum now?) morphs into a block animation only because he has a high block rating. The game doesn't recognize that he's out of position, or that I protected the ball with my body. No...the game only recognizes that he has a high block rating so a canned block animation must play out.
I'm tired of lead passes that make the receiver run faster than his speed rating dictates. So he's able to zoom past his man who was once in good defensive position but because he was stuck in the auto-crouch he was left in the dust.
I'm tired of every pass being an overhead pass. I'm tired of these two-player passing sequences that freeze the defender.
I'm tired of contesting a jumpshot perfectly only to see the ball go through my hand, because it was predetermined that the shot would go in.
To me, these are basic issues that shouldn't even be in a game of this quality. Is there something wrong with wanting these issues addressed? Or should I just praise 2K Sports for making the best basketball game ever? I guess since it's the best we should all just ignore its flaws. Because after all, it is the best. Yup, it's the best. IT IS THE BEST!
For example i had a great layup the other day when i was going for a free layup when Prince coming right behind of me, i sensed that he will try to block me and i did L2+RS to the right where i was dribbling on the left but i finished it with a right layup and i clearly have seen how my player put his body betw ball and his defender behind, same applies to all inside contact shots to be able to pull or not so this game is deep, and you can't just go ahead for an easy lay in without thinking who is coming right after you just like what you should do in real nba and same applies to other concerns you seem to have. The game is deep all i can say, everytime i play i try to enhance my attacking skills as well as defensive skills, you gotta put your winning streaks aside to get better in this game by trying new moves adding them to your arsenal.Comment

Didn't read through this whole thread, but The Show definitely still uses PS2 tech as well. In fact, it has more in common with it's PS2 counterpart than the 2K games.-Rocky Balboa"Maybe I can't win. But to beat me, he's going to have to kill me. And to kill me, he's gonna have to have the heart to stand in front of me. And to do that, he's got to be willing to die himself. I don't know if he's ready to do that."Comment

Really? I'm not sure what this means.
Anyways guys, I can't reply to each of your posts but I will say this. I understand how far NBA 2K has come on this current generation of platforms and I appreciate the depth of this game.
However, when I play a video game, controls are paramount. That doesn't mean I prefer a game that is all control and nothing else. But controls are top of my list, just like graphics or game modes may be important to others.
Controls and stiff animations have long been a weakness of this series and still continue to be. They may be improving these areas each year but I don't feel that tweaking is enough. It may not be the most logical time for an overhaul, but it is overdue. I'll wait I guess.

my sentiments exactly.
When you play a spammer/cheeser, especially one that is adept at it, the game becomes a chore and you really see what's lacking n the game, especially on the defensive end and the ease of lead passes(which aren't as bad as last year but still bad) which have always been problems with 2k to me.Comment

Some of you have seen this:
w/ 2K11, 2K murdered the sports gaming world.
