This year it should be through the roof there is no competition, But sitting by and have the mentality of " If it aint broke dont fix it" is good for a while, then when someone comes through and goes by you with something new and fresh then you are scrambling. You always what to be innovative. I just see the presentation improving every year at a better clip then gameplay IMO...

Ive learned to enjoy games for what they are, not what they are not. Since ive done that, my expierences have been much better. Is NBA2k11 the end all be all? No, but its pretty close.Comment

Re: Sooo when will 2k stop using ps2 tech?
Yes. I'm tired of being fed the same refurbished game year after year. Being sucked into animations against my will, balls going through hands, clueless off-ball defenders, same exploits every year, etc.
But like all corporations, 2K won't do anything drastic until they're forced to (either by legitimate competition or by consumer demand). Competition will be absent for a few years, and many consumers are content with mediocrity.Comment

Re: Sooo when will 2k stop using ps2 tech?
If you don't think 2K has improved their tech, you didn't notice the jump in quality from 2k6 to 2k7 or the leap graphically from 2k8 to 2k9. Not to mention the jump in gameplay from 2K10 to 2K11. There is only so much you can do to a game in one year. We all know how attempts at reinventing the game each year went for the other bball game developer.
I agree that issues from one years game should not show up in the next game, however. If we want that to happen, we really need to let them know and make it a big issue.Comment

hahaha...
no comp this year because 2k ran the **** competition off the freakin court by giving us the best bball game ever.
they need to keep improving, no doubt, because there are issues, but when they do eventually move to a new "engine" , there will still be issues, and will take them years to get it to a point where we are with this one.
competition needs to get their act together and actually compete before everyone complains about 2k11. 2k has moved videogame bball forward and , imo, is not a mediocre effort.
who do you see "going by" them any time soon? no one is close.Comment

Re: Sooo when will 2k stop using ps2 tech?
No, 2K did have competition. More competition than in most sports genres, in fact - they competed head-to-head (no exclusive licensing issues) with 989's basketball game AND EA's basketball games. And 2K has established itself as being clearly superior on an even playing field, even against the supposed "new tech" games.
So I'll take 2Ks approach to the foolish one people like to argue on this board - wanting change for change's sake instead of for any practical reason. It's not often you're going to see games that release on a year to year basis make sweeping changes every few years. Even with that 2K didn't just throw the kitchen sink into 2K11, they threw the entire kitchen (and the garage) into it - imo it's easily the most feature-rich sports title to date. Trying to imply they're on the wrong track is ridiculous (imo).HBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period

Re: Sooo when will 2k stop using ps2 tech?
EA Sports forsaw this last year, which i commend them for. While i'd rather have gotten a Live 10 with some fixes for 11 and let them work 2 years on the '12 cycle, they are trying to think out of the box. They clearly have the same concerns you do, and so do i. The gameplay feels fundamentally the same since 2k8. The stuff you mentioned like defensive sliding, human movement, recognition of star players in certain circumstances (dwight under the basket) are all concerns of mine too. While the game has improved tremendously in terms of features and depth, it still lacks aesthetic polish too. I don't feel the game is a true High Definition experience. The clunkyness of the camera and blury courts are just highly frustrating to me for a game made in 2011Comment

Re: Sooo when will 2k stop using ps2 tech?
I read TONS of comments around the net by people saying that 2K has the same game every year. Sure it's not true, but for the "casual" gamer (or whatever you call it) - it's pretty much the truth. For many people 2K11 = 2K10+Jordan+roster update+better lighting.
If 2K isn't going to boost their engine next year, I predict HUGE losses for them. Not everyone buys basketball games that make you use real tactics to beat it and/or reflect real stats.
Many people still buy new games because they assume they're going to be very different than the year before. No new engine = the same game, for many people.Last edited by youvalss; 12-05-2010, 12:37 PM.My Specs:

says who? the forums? seriously? its word of mouth and true fans of the game...not one of my friends complained about how its the same game with Jordan in the cover...holy thats annoying to read since the game made a HUGE leap over 2k10...I read TONS of comments around the net by people saying that 2K has the same game every year. the way i see it the game can only go up from here...i really doubt people will complain much for next years iteration (i admit though its going to be tough to top Jordan)

i still dont understand this call for a "new" engine...are you guys this eager to have a BAD game? its not like a new engine can be brought up in mere months...FFS look at Elite! its tiring bringing up Elite but hell look at what happened to them with this new mechanic they tried to add...Last edited by Goffs; 12-05-2010, 01:34 PM.Comment

Re: Sooo when will 2k stop using ps2 tech?
Just because none of your friends think this way, doesn't mean that everyone doesn't think this way. Who says your friends represent the majority of buyers? I'm with you and your friends, but who says that anyone who buys the game thinks this way?
But we'll see. I say: same engine again = HUGE losses. Only one way to find out.My Specs:

Re: Sooo when will 2k stop using ps2 tech?
the same can be said about comments from the NET..lol
i really doubt the engine itself will be the reason for the HUGE loss...
hell its the same damn engine since ps2 (apparently) and its still going strong sooo if anything its in the up and up...see link above (even if Elite came out the scores will be the same) with such high marks what makes you think that it would be bad next year? was the game bad the year before that with its same engine? its either word of mouth (Jesus vid Elite going viral) or its from the MetaCritics giving a bad review (which people are still hung up on since threads ends up to its 100's) which pretty much brings the game down and its not because of the same ol engine...Last edited by Goffs; 12-05-2010, 02:34 PM.Comment

Re: Sooo when will 2k stop using ps2 tech?
The Show has been same exact game for the last 3 years with updated rosters, so I wouldn't use that game to prove your point. NBA 2K is best sports game this gen easily. People still want shinny graphics over pure sim gameplay.Redskins, Lakers, Orioles, UNC Basketball , and ND Football

Re: Sooo when will 2k stop using ps2 tech?
i have a few things to say about this topic.
1. MLB the show doesn't have to emulate nearly as much of its sport as 2k does(in the show its fielding, hitting, pitching and baserunning. Thats it!!) In 2k they have to worry about all the subtle emotions and nuances of the sport of basketball brings.
2. 2k has been on the same engine since the ps2, but it has transitioned greatly to the new systems and is way more robust now. Would you have preferred them to go the EA way and build a new engine?(after 5 years how did that turn out?)
3.Some of these seem like they are based on your ability to play."Double Teams" and such can be eliminated with defensive changes and by your prowess with the sticks. Sliding has been fixed greatly with foot planting and such(will never be perfect cause its a video game and bball is all footwork).
This game has been touted as the best bball game ever made so seems like your gripes are with basketball videogames in general not just the "ps2 tech" of 2k(when it was actually ported to the ps2 from the xbox)Live, Love, Learn
and Play Basketball
I live in a word where I give respect to get it back.
I'm not owed anything by anyone.Comment

Sadly, I think you are right. Which is why 2k11 is so extraordinary.I read TONS of comments around the net by people saying that 2K has the same game every year. I think Elite being canceled has had a positive ($) and negative impact.
But, it seems to me that 2k has always had an underdog mentality and aimed their products at a niche market; who then rewarded them with praise, positive reviews, whisper campaigns and loyalty. It also seems to me that 2k has people who are knowledgeable about the sport working on the games. They had metric stats in the game years before it went mainstream!
I'm not worried about it. At least a few of these dudes who develop games for 2k know and understand the sport. If 2k11 had failed, I'd be worried. But they will just keep doing what they do and, if that includes a new engine, excluding all new engine hiccups, I'm sure it will be a solid innovative engine.
I just hope that this changes the landscape of sports gaming. But, I doubt it. Either way, they still make products.Last edited by greenieblue; 12-05-2010, 03:48 PM.Originally posted by Fabian Avenarius Lloyd[...] a man of subtlety or refinement is almost always nothing but an idiot.Comment
