Potential doesn't dictate how high you become, just how much better they progress as well as preventing too high regressions at higher ages.

Potential is not projected OVR, never was.

Think of potential as a rate of progression, we have to find out how the numbers work. (I.E 75 potential gives a max rate of ____ progression points per season)

Also, don't forget production(playing time from my experience) is factored in.

      Ps.

High potential for guys like Nash, KG, Duncan and etc is expected because after a certain age, players do not progress anymore and the potential raring for those players are for regression rate and trade value.

Sorry if this has been aske already but in future years in franchise do coaches still become useless? With all F ratings and F potentials
        New York Yankees
        Chicago Bears
        Chicago Bulls
        Rutgers Scarlet Knights

Ah, got it. I have to admit I was pretty ignorant about how the whole thing works. So guys like Garnett, Nash, and Ducan with 99/98 potential...that doesn't mean they have the ability to reach that rating...it just means they will not regress at all (or far less often) in the twilight of their careers.

          Gotcha.

Okay, well I believe I will edit the potential of most players anyways, especially if guys with 80 potential can get up to 90 overall...seems like a good 5-10 points off for most players is in order.

I would also like to see MORE regression from season to season...I think it's part of the reason why players are too highly rated 10 years into the future.

Oh, and I forgot to add one of the most important reasons that potential needs to be lowered..... the players potential rating raises as this years go on. For example, I lowered Demarcus Cousins to an 85 potential rating. Six years later, he was a 92 overall and his potential rating was a 96. Go figure smh.

Oh yea, i noticed that last year. Don't know if its a bug or anything but I hope its designed like that because its pretty cool.

The amount of high potential ratings is the real problem.

What did Cousins' stats look like? was he overachieving?

Good to know! I think I'll try lowering potential around the league for top 50 players or so (or whoever has top 50 highest potentials) and simming a few seasons to see what happens.

Lol it would be cool if when a player gets a certain age potential just quits working. Kobe is an amazing player ,but its only right for him to get worse with age. I remember last year Iverson was 35 and potential was 99.

@jukeman, Cousins last year stats in this Association were 16.1 points and 9.1 rebounds.

The main question I have is does the cpu respect the cap as in years past the cpu teams could sign anyone and go over the cap. This was done so that players were not left on the free agent list to start the year but caused an unrealistic free agency.

Okay guys, just lowered the potential across the board for everyone.

I ended up lowering probably 75% of the players in the game. 25% were either too low to bother with or I actually agreed with 2k's potential rating.

Most adjustments were 5 points lower...some 2-3...some 10...and even some rare ones up to 20.

What's interesting is that for the older players, their potential seems to reflect exactly as good as they used to be.

Tracy McGrady is a perfect example. His potential is a freaking 97!!! The only way that makes sense to me is if 2K is going off his highest rating at the peak of his career. So I dropped him to a 77 because I imagine he's going to be regressing quickly and he's obviously not getting any better.

I'm simulating the first 5 seasons now. Will post the results ASAP.

I am going to have my draft classes set up just like I did last year. I plan on making about 9 or 10. Most will be mediocre with some good players sprinkled around in there but I always have a bust draft (see the 2000 NBA draft) and one where a lot of good players are spread throughout the draft. I also include players that will have low overalls but excel at a certain skill. I suggest that anyone that does use my draft classes to just scout and not cheat to find the gems lol. Makes it more interesting and exciting that way.
Cool how far along are you with the rosters and draft classes?I know we all apprciate you guys that make the game enjoyable for us guys that care about realism in a game.
