The fact that they didn't have a Developer's Insight on Association and Play Book/Play Running and instead have insights on shoes/animation/myteam told me what type of gamer they were targeting. Re: Why is 2k continuing to ignore Association Mode?
I think the stuff they'd have to do for association to make it better would be hard. As you know, to push something just a little bit further takes more effort.
I wish they'd add the ability to slow-sim a game and jump into the game at any point. That's one thing I really want.
Also the too high potential making every team a superteam is kind of annoying.
If you turn a team like Detroit into a powerhouse (and we all do cuz it's fun), you are doing cheesy things. Just like scoring 80 points with one player. You have to NOT do them. I'd like to have players be a bit more selective about the teams they play for, though.
Seriously, 10 years haha. The first thing I do is dump all of the bad contracts for similar 1 year contracts... get players with high potential, get a number 1 pick... and the team is a powerhouse way before 10 years.
I don't know how to combat that, really. The best idea I can come up off the top of my head is that when you start making trades, you should get less each time. It makes sense because when a team starts having a "rebuilding fire sale" teams are there to get everything for cheap.
You should also not be able to instantly trade people. The idea of trade finder ruins this mode. The trade process should take days like scouting. It should be much less precise and have month-long negotiations for big trades (like real life) not click on a player and have 29 offers instantly.

Re: Why is 2k continuing to ignore Association Mode?
I feel like I've posted this in every Association speculation thread for 2K13, but here goes again:
I wasn't expecting new features in Association. I was hoping for them, but not expecting them. Total Sim Control and Start Now got in. The first should please the GM-type guys who like to simulate but didn't have much control, and Start Now sounds like an interesting concept, although it isn't my cup of tea. They've implemented the new CBA. Well, that was pretty much obligatory.
Now, besides all that, here's what I'm actually EXPECTING 2K to do, if it's a company that values its consumer, and wants to make up for its damn track record.
Just give us an Association that works out-of-the-box without bugs. No Team Stats bugs, no $0 contracts when signing free agents, no messed up draft classes, etc. I want to finally be able to just enjoy the mode, even if it still has 2K11/12's depth, and not spend months developing tools to fix the game's bugs, doing things I'm not supposed to be doing like reverse engineering.
And none of that "our whole team was working on 2K13 Day 1 after 2K12's release". You need a core group that is always available to provide post-release support. How can a silly bug such as the Team Stats bug get through your QA and post-release support, and not be fixed by any patch? Same goes for the draft order in MyPlayer. The code was there in Association, just copy-paste the damn thing.
Really, 2K. I've lowered my expectations about Association as much as I could. Just give me a game that works. For once.Eleftherios "Leftos" Aslanoglou

I been playing NBA games since 2002..I was only 10 years old.
I played associations and stuff back then too, considering there was no my player..
Anyone that says my player's for younger people are pretty simple-minded..after playing association for so long it gets boring, and as far as I can tell they've done everything they can in that mode.I don't wanna be Jordan, I don't wanna be Bird or Isiah, I don't wanna be any of those guys.
I want to look in the mirror and say I did it my way.

Well said some new bells and whistles would have been nice but all I really want or AT LEAST hope for is some background logic from the CPU that makes sense.I feel like I've posted this in every Association speculation thread for 2K13, but here goes again:

Like "Hey you just drafted a young #1 overall PG with high potential don't sign CP3 and/or Deron and make that guy sit the bench forever"
or
"The next Jordan Malone and Shaq are all on the board in the draft plz don't draft that sorry 70 rated pg #1 overall because you have a need at the postion or even worse trade the 1 number pick for Chris Duhon and 2 second rounders"
or my fav
"Lebron is taking his talents to Milwaukee/San Antino/Indiana/Current worse team in the league????"
These are all things that cry out a need for attention in 2k as a whole not just in association but myplayer shared this same problems too last yrComment

Re: Why is 2k continuing to ignore Association Mode?
Couldn't agree more. I appreciate 2K for making consistent efforts to tweak gameplay each year (some tweaks being better than others - but each year PLAYS differently)...and also fleshing out game modes like My Player/Career and even adding more with My Team...but Association mode is quickly starting to look like the forgotten step child again this year.I feel like I've posted this in every Association speculation thread for 2K13, but here goes again:

In 2K12, I remember booting up the game, cruising over to association mode, and immediately realizing it was practically identical to 2k11....and I wasn't TOO upset about it...until I started simulating a few seasons and then realized that all of the problems plaguing the game mode the past few years were still intact (with a few new ones):
- Inflated potential ratings that result in the league being flooded with too much talent and teams being unable to afford all-star caliber players who sit in free agency
- Ridiculous AI trade logic, drafting and team building strategy, and free agency acquisitions
- Only being able to load 6 custom draft classes into your league without the game freezing
- Unrealistic player progression, like big men's 3 PT shooting tendencies increasing out of control each year
- All CAPs having all cold zones and no hot spots
- Team stats not being calculated correctly
- Season record glitches and even teams that statistically should not make the playoffs ending up making the playoffs
- Free agents sign for $0
There's probably 3-4 more I'm not thinking of.
I'm praying that this stuff won't show up again in 2K13...
Here's my plea to 2K sports:
LD, I'm looking forward to the Association Mode Insight...I'd love to learn what tweaks have been made to improve this game mode. A TON of us still play it more than the other game modes (as evidenced by this thread). Honestly, I don't even care if it does in fact look exactly the same as 2k12. That's fine - just please tell me that the issues that have been undermining the quality of this mode have been AT LEAST addressed. I want SOMEONE in 2K Sports to at least acknowledge that these issues exist. We just want to know that 2K is paying attention to the changes that what we're practically begging for in our associations. It's one thing to come out and let us know you guys are aware of the glitches and are looking into sorting them out, and another to ignore that they exist and not respond to your community's outreach.
With that being said, I am extremely excited for this game and can't wait to see what kind of association mode we're working with this year.

Re: Why is 2k continuing to ignore Association Mode?
The worrisome thing is if they truly did add the new CBA as they've stated that mean less cap room to be spent and if they didn't fix those 2 things we most likely have a nightmare scenario where team management is more out of control and broken than ever in not only Association but in myplayer as well.- Inflated potential ratings that result in the league being flooded with too much talent and teams being unable to afford all-star caliber players who sit in free agency
- Ridiculous AI trade logic, drafting and team building strategy, and free agency acquisitions

I also agree about the draft class freeze after 6 its been broken for 2 yrs now...Comment

Re: Why is 2k continuing to ignore Association Mode?
I'm just curious and don't feel like reading everyone else's post -- what things do you think they need to add to association mode? I'm a big association guy and I think they don't need to add much of anything -- I rather for them to fix what they have before venturing into something else that will probably need to be tweaked to perfection.I understand that this is the deepest franchise mode in all the four major sports, in my opinion, but honestly, this is getting kind of stale.
It's still fun, but it would be nice if they added a few extra things to the mix. I'm not complaining, it seems as if myplayer/myteam is getting the most attention this year. I can respect that, i guess.
With that being said, i hope sometimes in the future, association mode can be a bit more tougher. It's too easy to turn a team like Detroit into powerhouses in less than 10 years.#WashedGamerComment

Re: Why is 2k continuing to ignore Association Mode?
Looking forward to this as I am sure ALOT of people are. For me Association Mode is the ONLY Mode I really look forward to and IF 2k13 hasnt addressed the Obvious issues in Association Mode(Team Stats, Draft Class Glitches, CAT and CAP issues) then I would say I am DONE after 2k13. It has been said they have been working on 2k13 since 2k12 was released so THESE issues SHOULD be fixed as MANY times as they have been pointed out. HOPING for some Great news when you guys release the Insight.Last edited by vtcrb; 09-26-2012, 07:31 AM.NBA 2k18 Roster:

Re: Why is 2k continuing to ignore Association Mode?
I know the stat boosting shoes are glitched in Association mode, if you put the shoes on your players and practice on that same stat it will permanently
go to 99.
Training camp points never gives you the full amount earned half the time.
I been complaining about all the other glitches for months now because most of the things messed up are so obvious; how could people testing the game not see and fix these problems?Comment

Re: Why is 2k continuing to ignore Association Mode?
I have a BAD feeling we are going to be disappointed. There have been 1000s of people posting the Association Glitches all year and IF they arent addressed this year I take that as Association is no Longer a Preferred Game Mode. Which would be VERY disappointing.I know the stat boosting shoes are glitched in Association mode, if you put the shoes on your players and practice on that same stat it will permanently

I think Boenisch said it in the MP insight video...I'm not calling you out or anything, but do you have a link to where that was said? I am interested in these types of numbers releases. Sometimes things seem askew. For instance, I read an article on an upcoming racing game that removed the in-car view because they insisted data told them only 5 out of every 100 gamers used the in-car view. Even while trying to avoid making the "But my friends all use in-car view" generalization, I still felt that seemed to be a little low. And to tie it back to basketball, sometimes I wonder where these folks are getting their data from - and whether it's tied to online gaming and somehow discounting those who are not actively online with 2K's system.Comment

Re: Why is 2k continuing to ignore Association Mode?
Oh word, yeah I cannot recall which video that was said but I do recall something like that. Maybe it's splitting hairs but again, it didn't feel super official. I kind of have a feeling sometimes that folks conclude My Player (or any other mode) must be the most played because it has the biggest presence on YouTube or Facebook, which I feel are still mostly websites reserved for a video game presence for a small, specific type of a mostly young crowd.
For instance, I'm an active Facebook user, but I have no interest in using my account to post on 2K news, opinions, and polls. I also use YouTube, but I have zero interest in sharing fake stories on my Association or My Player. As such, the folks making the most noise on those sites sometimes seem to promote an idea that modes are used more or less than they may truly be.Comment
