Re: The defensive logic of this game is completely messed up!

When Gerald Wallace is in a situation where there is no help, like on a fast break. I can't even move him infront of Melo to disrupt him. What gives? I get stuck, Gerald dont even want to move! He just lets Melo gracefully get to the rim. I am hoping this is because it's on Pro/Default online.

It is so incredibly frustrating. The people online always score in bunches in the paint, I can't even stop them. When I go to do it, they always stop me. What am I doing wrong? This is insane.

Re: The defensive logic of this game is completely messed up!

I realise there are issues on defense this year. Lack of contact in the paint, baseline spin are often hard to stop, it's really hard to create contact with an offensive player behind the backboard or below the backboard, sometimes the guy defending the paint gets pushed away, I see that.

I see it way less than most people because I play with people that doesn't go in the paint every possession. I see like 1 or 2 dunks a game, not 25. I understand that for people who plays against cheeser it has to be a mess, but nobody is forcing you to play cheesers. In the online section of 2K forums there are like 100 names you can add to your friendlist who are friendly and sim people.

One thing I'am starting to realise is that a lot of people on this forum aren't sim, doesn't want any challenge, and when they don't succeed are very quick on asking for a patch. If you hate the game or it drives you that crazy, stop playing it, give it a break, come back in a week. Sometimes it helps. Not doing something for a while is sometimes the best way to get better at it. This game is simply amazing. It will shine even more after the patch. I have played like 40 games online with almost every teams, I haven't got one game that felt like the other one. I could take a team and play at their strenght. Every team's style of play is in the game. Every style of players's in the game. You can do it all, it's beautifull.

And when you play with legends, man you feel like playing a tottally new game.

If you want to stuck your head in the things that doesn't work and miss what's so great about the game then fine, I suggest you stop playing the game until a patch fixes the issues you're having because you will never have fun playing it.

Yeah, turn the defensive assist at 0...I personally leave my auto contest at Intense D because its hard to recover against the fastest guards,

There are definitely some problems on D in this game, but on ball D is not one of them,,..it's honestly one of the more fun parts of the game..

          Again great post.

But I disagree on baseline spins being hard to stop. If you time it right there easily stopped.

Tip to people havig problems defending the post, let go of intense D, let go of LT. I rarely use LT. When I use intense D, it's with post players bigger then my defender. I use to try and stop there aggressive backdown but let it go as soon as I anticipate there going to make a move.

Like czar said last year holding intense D restricts your movement on defense, so letting go at different points is a major key. It's all about momentum.

That is tough to defend, as it's tough and real life to defend in a one on one situation....this Is ONE thing I don't miss from 2k11....don't fall back and hold LT hoping G Wallace morphs into Melo for contact. Hold LT + RT to get into position quicker....if he's coming too fast, use the L stick to get into position quicker and dont use LT at all under you get into proper position...

On the baseline spin. I meant that when the guy got in the paint he's unstoppable. Most of the time you can't even foul him or initiate contact.

                Ahhh okay.

Yeah I agree. There's needs to be a bit more contact in the paint, more contact in the paint would lead to more fouls also. Fouls are a bit to low on HOF 12 min sim online IMO.

But when contact is made in the paint it's real nice to see the good animations making it believable.

I absolutely love how Brook Lopez and Gerald Wallace will stand infront of Darren Collison in the paint, hands up, and Collison just gracefully puts it into the basket.

I think I found out what my problem was on defense ... I went into controls and put Right Stick Defense to "Absolute". Now, I am getting a lot of stops and causing a lot of contact in the paint on Sim sliders.

I use the 'High' Camera Angle, it's like 2K but its like an overhead view. I never knew what the difference between Absolute and Camera Relative is. Absolute is working fine.

EDIT: I just blocked Shannon Brown's dunk (on Superstar). First block dunk I have seen in this game.

I think you're on the right track with this one. Sometimes the key to defense in 2k12 was just getting in the right position and then leaving the controller alone. Even the LT or the right-stick "hands-up" animation would sometimes put you out of position, when just leaving the controls neutral would get you a stop or a turnover.

I feel like the same concept is in place in 2k13, but at the lower difficulties it is hard to really figure this stuff out, since the superstar ratings and momentum effect pretty much overrule everything else.

I take back everything I said about the defense. The entire statement I wrote in caps lock ... nix it. I just had to switch Right Stick Defense from Camera Relative to Absolute.

You guys should try it out if you're still having problem.

Funny that, I find defending easier when I have the defensive assist at 100. When I had it at 0 I was just sliding everywhere. One step to the left or right with intense D would send me flying 5 steps instead.

Don't like how the last defender on a fast break doesn't make any attempt to position themselves between the ball and the basket, they always are just spectators while the opponent dunks it.

Turn up all the defensive stuff: Jumpshot defend strength, Layup Defend strength, Defensive awareness, Contact. Turn the fatigue rate up to at least 57. Turn the game speed down to 40

I do everything you said, I have all the Layup and Jumpshot defense strengths up to 100, game speed at 40. It slows the game down big time and with the game speed that slow, it helps out a lot playing defense, especially in the paint.
