Why does the CPU copy your defensive match-ups?

I don't think I've seen thing brought up, so I figured I may as well. How come after you set your defensive match-ups, does the CPU match them? For example, if I'm playing with the Lakers and I switch my match-ups so that Artest is guarding Carter, and Bryant is guarding Pietrus, when I come down on offense, the CPU will have changed it's match-ups to reflect mine.

I think it's pretty much common knowledge that just because a certain player is given a defensive assignment, doesn't necessarily mean that the player will be guarded by who they're matched-up with when they come down on offense.

Sorry if this has been posted already.
