Re: Everything New and Good in Live 2004 Gameplay

all of this sounds very nice.

quick question: is the game as "explosive" as last year? I know i really enjoyed playing against another human because the games were just so intense, blowing by the D and finishing with a nice stuff was just so exciting, not to mention the after dunk reactions by the players. Is that excitement still there?

I did not play 2003 but there is still the excitement of the dunk and after animations but they happen in the appropriate anounts IMO.

Not too over the top but not to seldom to be boring.

            It's a Fun game.

yeah that sounds good. The same intensity but a lower frequency of such plays would be ideal. It seems like that is what Live 2004 has accomplished.

Yeah, I think it's still explosive when you beat a guy and dunk, it just doesn't happen ON EVERY PLAY like it did last year.

I forgot all about cpu behaviour on screens (as mentioned above). If you run a screen and roll, the CPU agressively switches, allowing you to get a mismatch. This alone was super sweet when I figured it out. THEN, I watched in awe as they SWITCHED BACK almost immediately when I didn't take advantage of it. I spent a bunch of time watching their behaviour and realized that they will even switch with other players to create 'less' of a mismatch.

For example, if I run a pick and roll with my PG and C, and I get the D to switch which leaves their C on my PG, if I run too close to a different teammate (say, my SF) the SF will switch with the C and guard my PG and their C will guard my SF (IE less of a mismatch). Then if you keep moving it around and don't stay properly spaced they will eventually sort it all out and end up with everypone having their correct check back without ever having given up an open shot/lane.

You have to learn how to take advantage of these mismatches if you want to score on Superstar mode. I can't win yet, but at least I'm getting so I can compete.

It's the most impressive display of defensive AI I have ever seen in a basketball game.

Check it out, you'll see what I mean.
