like hmcoy said, bench players rarely get awards like that, and once bell gets more PT in phoenix, he should be eligible to get that recognition and at the very least some consideration.

Ok, either you cannot read or you are blind. MY PROOF IS, HE HAS NO NBA DEFENSIVE AWARDS. NOT ONE. NOT EVEN ONE CONSIDERATION.

Eric Snow had his moments in the NBA and helped the 76ers reach the finals.

Has nothing to do with Bell.

Bell has NEVER made it, and most likely wont ever. Its funny how you list guys like bell josh howard and camby on there while leaving off players like KG Tim Duncan Larry Hughes and Jason Kidd....LOL

Please, just agree to disagree. Raja is not all defensive and thats proof enough.

he has had no consideration because he's never averaged more than 28 minutes in a season until this one. j kidd is still a top defender? wow. KG should still be considered up there..

he's defintely not going to be named to any all defensive teams this season, but to say that he's merely an above average defender is just mistaken.

LOL, oh okay. Its the minutes holding his great defense down

Guess that explains away why there was never a consideration for a even second team all team defense

Its been real. Im glad to have gained some insight

True. LeBron has two problems...he's quick, but amazingly, he has poor lateral movement. #2, he isn't an aggressive help defender. Theres a reason James has only fouled out once in 3 years. Because he's a freak of nature, I fully expect him to at least get to the point where he can get 2-3 blocks per game to go along with his steals, but it'll prolly be a long time from now...after he locks down the J, allowing him to expend alot less energy on offense.

its kinda hard to get consideration when you're not on the court. and yes it's been "real".. glad we can have conversations without the sarcasm.

He can be far better than average if he concentrates on it, but he just has to work on it, and have the desire.

I trust that he will improve as time goes on. Doesnt seem like the lazy type one bit to me.

His main thing is to be smart about what he does, because he is quick enough to at least beat guys to be able to beat guys to their comfort spots.

His gross motor skills have a bit to do with that bad lateral movement as well, but he can work that out and improve alot in time.

It also doesnt hurt to have a very good defender next to you.

I think what Carraba is saying is that like Varejao, exposure or recognition does not always dictate the reality of his talents. Watching these playoffs, I would say that reguardless of his past awards (or lack therof), this boy is a relentless defender.

Don't know about top 15 but I'd put him in the Ruben Patterson/Joe Johnson/James Posey category....a "dirty-work" guy who can be any given teams top perimiter defender. A guy who can handle the opponents best player by himself without getting completely molested. That alone puts him in the top 25 or so, IMO...not every team has one of those dudes.

I remember people saying that just because Kobe was on all-defensive teams, it didn't mean he was a top flight defender because he had Shaq to rely on...

Personally I think a lot of players get by on reputation.

You guys are arguing whether Bell is top 10 or above average. Considering the lack of real great perimeter players in the league, I don't think this is that great of an argument.

Gotta love a Laker game. I come in here the next morning to find folks arguing about stupd **** like NBA defensive awards just for the sake to argue. All my damn picks for last night against New Jersey won. This just means that Thursday is gonna be an even beter night of ball. All you "unbiased" folks drop the dumb *** argument and tell me who you got tonight.

Don't know if this has been mentioned (don't feel like going back and reading the last few pages), but anyone notice how Raja Bell has been taking cheap shots at Kobe all series long? I guess Bell is lucky Kobe is a star his team needs in the game, because I would have knocked his *** out for all them cheap fouls.

we cannot not argue, it's part of everything in life. The problem is if people take it too far into personal attacks and off-topic clutter. Right now I think it's fine whatever they are arguing about.

The All Defense award in the NBA is a lot like the gold glove in baseball, after you win one you can usually win a few more based on reputation. Jeter won a gold glove last year he flat out didn't deserve it and Kobe has been on the All defensive team a few years when he shouldn't have been. So what I'm trying to say is that these awards don't really have much bearing on who really is the best.

Not to continue to stray off-topic, but for the record, LeBron is a horrible defender. He can get into passing lanes and a few decent blocks from time to time, but any decent ballhandler can run circles around him, and his transition/help defense is pretty much nonexistent.

Yeah he's a bum, I'd like to see him play so one of our expendable players can deliver some payback. Turiaf is a monster, let him, Jim Jackson, or Mckie take on the duties. And anyone who compares this to Kwame Brown is just doing so because they hate the Lakers. Kwame was being grabbed and he reacted by throwing the guy to the floor, kind of like "get off me". Bell just waited for Kobe to juke him and clotheslined him. One is physical play, Diaw is just too light to bang with Kwame, the other is a bitch move by a punk player who would have been hit square in his jaw if this game was not a key playoff game. Rotating with your elbows is part of basketball, its' why guys wear mouthpieces, clotheslining is nowhere in the realm of basketball.
