    Like his first 3 rings.

Kobe has 2 good years left in him. Depending on his team, it could go three since they are so talented and he can rely on his teammates to help win him games. If he was in LeBron's situation where he had very little help, it would be about 1-1.5 seasons.

So I guess at the end of games the offense was not run through Kobe? He was just as important as Shaq maybe not as dominant but very important to the title run.

I'd say that it all depends on how Phil Jackson, or whoever the future coach is, uses him throughout the regular season. I think this year Phil overused Kobe especially with all the injuries he had to fight through. Phil needs to begin incorporating Bynum more on offense, needs to play Brown more and needs to find a better back-court mate than Fisher. If all of these things begin to happen Kobe could play until he's 37-38, but if not he'll play effectively until 36. He's battled a ton of "minor" injuries throughout his career, but eventually all of those injuries have long lasting effects. He's had surgery on his knee/s twice (I'm assuming he'll need off-season surgery again), he's had surgery on his shoulder and I'm sure there are things we've never heard about. It doesn't matter how skilled some players are, a loss of athleticism can completely change a player's game (i.e. McGrady, Carter, Garnett and Webber) for the worse.

Pippen was very important to Jordan. Kobe was important to Shaq. Gasol is important to Kobe.

Every team has its best player. Shaq was the best player/most dominant on the Lakers championship teams. Kobe is the most important player on this Lakers team now. Kobe's been to the Finals six times and has one Finals MVP.

kobe definately number 2 man on those shaq lakers teams.

i give him last yr and this yr as the man, but gasol sneakin up on him as the man on the lakers. he is arguably their most important/best player vs celtics imo. they should run every play thru gasol due to his huge advantage over celtics bigs + his passing ability, until they stop him.

                as far as mj comparisons,

mentally and killer instinct, no comparison.

in a 7 game series, with prime mj your number 1 man(6-0 in finals) vs prime kobe as your number one,(1-1 finals) who would you bet real money on to win the series? he looked bad in 8 as a number 1. looks above avg with some wild shots this year

elite time left a mere 2 years, hopefully he retires while hes still got skills.

That would work for someone like Lebron who was averaging forty minutes a game as a rookie and led the league in minutes his second year but Kobe averaged 15 and 26 minutes his first two years and his third was the shortened season.

He also had a pretty clear break in the middle of his career when they weren't doing anything in the playoffs.
                  Bingo.

Kobe played less minutes his first three years in the league than he would have played in college anyway.

82 game season with long trips on the road plus the playoffs which can be more than 20 games. That is much more tiring than a 30 game college season, in which Kobe would have been on a very premier school which plays the first half of the schedule almost all at home, and then most road games are within the region of his school. Even if he did only play 15, and 26 minutes his first two years, that's a lot more minutes than he would've played in college.
I will always, always be a Jets fan. But trust me it hurts.

Elite player status is tough. Kobe doesn't have the explosiveness anymore and each year he will only slow down even more. However, with that he has changed his game. Working the post and taking that fade away from the elbow. If he constantly is able to hit those shots, he'll be hovering around that tier.

                      Tough to judge though.
                      Same.

He'll get stronger and better in the post and shoot jumpshots. If you notice he has slown down his game already to create longevity. The guy is more explosive then he shows most of the time (catching one handed alley-oops close to the height of the backboard comes to mind) He will surprise you guys

NBA mileage is vastly different than college. the guys you bang with are twice as big and you just simply have to work harder to be productive. Longer games, longer seasons, and the intensity of the NBA playoffs can't be quantified. Kobe has gone deep in the playoffs the majority of his career. think about it 82 games not counting playoffs, that's damn near 3 college regular seasons in one year. don't forget the olympics.

kobe is the old guy at the gym who doesn't seem to work as hard on the court but always makes big plays.

you say that, but to me, it's looking like if the Lakers win this title, Gasol is the MVP right now. Kobe has been virtually non-existent so far (with the exception of last night..and even then, he shot poorly)

He's 38 for 93 from the field right now with 17 turnovers and 18 assists in 4 games. The games they've won, Gasol has been the best player for them.

The entire defense is geared to stopping Kobe. That has allowed Gasol to go off (along with Bynum... and we see he's still not ready to do it without Bynum). People are looking too much at numbers. Ask anyone on the Celtics if they're worried about Gasol or Kobe. Gasol's a post player and he's still not seeing double teams. They're ok with letting Gasol do what he does. If he's even going to be considered an above average player he BETTER be taking advantage of it.

                                disagree.

they pretty much been playing kobe straight up until he gets to the paint. gasol been most important for lakers in the series and he is most difficult to stop for celts 1 on 1

too many wild shots for kobe. he does hit some extremely difficult shots, but he takes bad shots a lot, like he wants degree of difficulty points

percentage wise, id take my chances with kobe perimeter shot vs gasol taking it against the celts bigs

ill give up a few kobe points if i can stop gasol down low.(and all the others)

usually do better against lakers when kobe trying to do it all himself
