    Where are they now???

Remember when all of these "Great Players" were stars and big time players in the league, Now they're either completely gone or bench warmers. Whats up with these guys:
Nick Anderson used to be sooo nice for the Magic. Mookie Blaylock used to tear it up with the Hawks. Steve Smith was a big time player in Atlanta. Glenn Rice averaged like 25 ppg in Charlotte. Tim Hardaway was a clutch killer with the Heat. Zo was a slaughter house. Theo Ratliff could not g oa game without blocking the hell out of something. Penny Hardaway was a superstar alongside ShaQzilla. Isiah Rider, washed up on mariquana?? He could playyyy. Mitch Richmond, wow he could shoot, Mitchy Rich average 22 or more in his first 8 seasons. Can somebody say future hall of famer. Shawn Kemp, oh lord he's still a free agent. Vin Baker, he is where??? Greg Anthony was soo nice for the Blazers in 2000, and he's only 36 guys. Veteren PG anyone?? Rod Strickland was nice for the Bulletz.
I know a lot of them were hurt by age and injuries but still, every year almost every team adds 2 new players in the draft to their roster, meaning 2 have lose a job in the NBA, so its gotta be tough to see some nice veteren players that used to be amazing just disappear into oblivion, or just sign with the Lakers, not play, and win a championship.Cough Malone and Payton Cough

    Re: Where are they now???

I feel ya to an extent. Some of those guys were pretty darn good. My main source of nostalgic feeling is the idea that the league had better foundamentals right on up to the day that Kobe first stepped onto an NBA court. Since then it's been mostly a flashy spetacle where boys are playing a men's game. There is less emphasis on the foundamentals of a jump shot or good defense.

Coaches today have become babysitters rather then the diciplinarians and COACHES that they once were. No longer will you see a Chuck Daily patrolling the sidelines barking out plays to his team that he has built specifically to play his system. No longer can a Pat Riley draw up plays with the comfort of knowing that his players have the ability and the skills to actually pull them off. No longer are there true "systems" in the NBA but rather many teams play varying versions of the same generic game. (save for Dallas, Utah and Detroit)

You will no longer see a tweener that can be excellent at both positions he may play. (ala Magic Johnson in the early 80s) No longer will you see players that understand the team concept like the Celtic teams of the 80s and Stockton& Malone.

It is a shame that players today think that great basketball is running up and down the court and making highlight reel plays or swatting the ball out of bounds when really they should think about the hustle play. Going after the loose ball, not just swatting the ball away but actually trying to rebound it. Today's players only think of themselves, women and their shoe contracts. Where it once was for the love of the game.

Yes I know that in the mid-late 90s it was mostly a fame and money thing but at least there were guys that had FOUNDAMENTALS and weren't rushing themselves into the league. Now the league is being proliferated with young underclassmen and HS kids who just wouldn't make it on an NBA squad 15 yrs ago. This is one reason why there is such a rush for the foreign player. They may not be as good as their American counterparts but they have the FOUNDAMENTALS.

    It's pretty sad.

(wow what a rant I should've made this an article or something!)

Haha yeah i completely agree with you. I mean these high school kids are taking up roster spots and all the ycan do is run the break. I mean look at a guy like Travis Outlaw, drafter by the Blazers in the mid-late first round. CAn he do anything that isn't athletisicm based. I mean everything today and especially in drafts depends on "POTENTIAL" what about true talent and SKILL.

Very good points. I take Sir Charles's view on this. The draft is now about drafting a team for 3 years in the future, instead of getting help RIGHT NOW. Thus, vets will disappear at an earlier age in favor of guys that won't be NBA ready for 2-3 seasons.

Minimum age needs to be raised to 20. Players association will never go for it though.
