after reading this, that's the conclusion I came up with.

NEW YORK -- Technical fouls will become twice as expensive this season.

The NBA informed teams that fines for technicals will double from last season's amounts in a memo, the contents of which were confirmed to The Associated Press on Friday.

Players and coaches will now be docked $2,000 for each of their first five technical fouls. The costs rise to $3,000 for the next five, followed by $4,000 for Nos. 11-15. Starting at 16, players are suspended one game for every two technicals, along with $5,000 for each.

The number of technicals could rise this season with the NBA seeking to halt complaining about calls. They will now call technicals for overt gestures, such as punching the air in anger, even if it's not directed at a referee.

I was watching highlights on NBA TV today and Kyle Korver got T'd-up for gesturing to the ref he got hit on the elbow... really? I know players complain a lot and some more than others but c'mon this is ridiculous.

I'm watching 30 for 30 Winning Time - Reggie Miller vs The New York Knicks right now.

Those things back then could never happen today. Shame. It ignited a lot more passion for the sport.

Re: NBA To Impose New Guidelines For Technicals

I suggest you people read Tim Donaghy's book Personal Foul and then tell me what you think about this new technical foul rule.. David Stern and the NBA is CROOKED.. The officials are there to police the players, not the game. They are also there to make sure the star players stay on the court as much as possible. People need to realize that the NBA is entertainment, and that people pay good money to watch the stars play basketball. The NBA is all about the MONEY and that's the bottom line. This new Technical Foul rule will only be enforced with the non stars, I guarantee it..

After reading that book, the NBA is completely unwatchable. Knowing that refs place bets with each other before the game on which one can call a T first on Rasheed Wallace.. Stuff like that happens all the time. If an official has a persona grudge against a player, coach, or even a owner, you can bet that person won't get any calls in his favor. The NBA is just a step below WWE for me.

i like it . I've watched college and pro games both lose games cause the guy was stripped and he's crying to the refs while his guy is running down the court putting two in the bucket. players need to worry about the game on the court not the refs that's what the coach is for.

NBA is a joke, the players travel all the time and it never gets called, but they will penalize this stuff?

Didn't look like an "Air Punch" to me. Didn't know that the "Shoulder Shrug" was equally damnable.

LOL. Carier Martin for the Wiz got one last night for showing how Gallo elbowed him in the face. I'd post a vid but no one knows or cares about Cartier.

So, two T's and you are still gone? If so there are going to be a lot of ejections this year.

                            Bad decision Stern.

Shouldn't Amare get one right at beginning for gesturing for the "and one"?

This is so ridiculous. Ban emotion from the game, soon we will live like in the movie Equilibrium.
