Re: The reason why I think the NBA is failing for me

Difference is nba refs are almost enabled and encouraged to do what they do

The NBA changed the rules, the nba wont reprimand them, the nba protects them... the nba hired an army general who was supposed to watch them, but basically it was a ploy to make you shut up and to try to make Donaghy out to be a liar

I know... im just trippin huh??

Well where is this guy ?

Ok where was the outcry about officiating when Jordan was playing I mean sometimes you get bad officiating but its not even close to how it was when Jordan was playing.

Aside from the obvious "MJ isn't playing anymore", for me the biggest issue I have with the NBA is just so many ticky tack fouls are called and it really kills the flow of the game. I enjoy watching the game, I think the athletes are amazing, and I love basketball...it just kills me, however, when you get 3 non-shooting fouls in a possession. Let the guys play and get up and down the floor.

Overall Outcry....I'd say no. But lets not fool ourselves into think preferential treatment started in 2000.

There's a scene during the Dream Team footage, where Bird, Magic, and Jordan are at a photo shoot together. Magic jokes that he cant put his arm around Jordan cause that would be a foul. Its on the Jordan DVD.

I dont know if i agree that guys stars or not driving to the hole to get a foul in crunch time is a reason to think the NBA game is "failing".

It does seem to me the days of refs "swallowing the whistle" during the last 2 mins is gone though.

Micro-Managing is the culture of the game it seems.

We're talking about the current NBA... stop trying to contaminate every thread with off topic stuff

Interesting link, Brandon. I dunno if any of that virtual simulator stuff is possible. Well, he says its possible, but is it feasible? Is this really going to happen? I doubt it.

And Capp, the outcry became public as it got worse and worse and worse. Then when the Western Finals in 2002 were obviously corrupted, it erupted.

I dont care about anything that guy says, since he stepped into the job, the reffing as well as the freedom they have has gotten worse.

Seeing guys kicked out for saying whoa and T'd up for looking at the crowd is hardly what i'd call a solution

Re: The reason why I think the NBA is failing for me

                      Too many timeouts.

                      Too many foul calls.

                      Too much whining about calls.

Three good reasons not to watch the NBA.

                          First off, awesome analogy!

Second, this is what makes it unwatchable for me. and I hoped it would become more watchable this year with the refs cracking down on giving technicals to guys that complain and whine, but they're only calling them on every other than the biggest superstars, who are the ones that complain the most (minus Dwight Howard..not sure what they have against him.)

People always, ALWAYS complained about Jordan getting too many calls back in the day. There has always been the "star treatment" in the league.

15+ years ago no one thought the league was fixed because the officiating was so poor. There weren't a dozen offensive fouls called each game. You could handcheck and be physical with offensive players back then and not foul out in the first half. Stern wanted more offense so the refs and rules allowed for less contact and physical play.

Im going to stop this one right here. I wish these dudes would stop bringing Jordan up.. I dont care what you say about the calls.... that dude got beat up way worse than any player you see playing today and alot of them were regular basketball plays

Jordan took hits and falls, elbows and more... he played in an era where if you got in the lane they'd try to kick your teeth in if they could. I saw him slammed out of the air and clean knocked out, and it was a regular foul, but in todays NBA the defender would've been suspended for 2 weeks.

Those were just a couple of many fouls they would give that were regular fouls on the norm, whereas today guys would be ejected immediately and suspended.... and he got up and kept playing. Injured his knee on the first one and kept playing.....and dont even let me get started on the Knicks

So please lets stop talking as if guys were just handed 25 fts on a given night because the refs wanted to win a bet. Those guys earned their fts on many a night

If there is an outcry its because this garbage is blatantly corrupted and has turned into more about entertainment and markets than it is about basketball.

Pip kept playing in this game... what do you think would happen to him in todays game?
