Re: How did he make the NBA

Why it gotta be Steve Blake though?

Why can't it be someone like Eddie House? Or Damon Jones? Or Marco Bellineli? Or Chris Duhon? LOL

I don't think any of us could ever compete with them. I'm just saying we could score more than zero points lol.
So basically, you guys would get nothing more than a Moral Victory from it then?

I think ya'll would score more than 0, but I also think that ya'll would still lose by like 20 minimum

But not a guy like Steve Blake. He would I'm sure have a quickness advantage on me. Any NBA PG probably would. But I would bet money that in a dead sprint I'm about as fast as he is, I know I can jump higher, and I'm sure I'm stronger as well.
All that is well and good, but I didn't know you were going to run windsprints and measure vertical jumps to see who won this competition. There is a reason he's in the NBA and you and I aren't: he's a basketball player. Think about this: he is evaluated by the best basketball experts in the world and is still payed to play against these amazing athletes we're talking about...he'd take our manhood and not break a sweat doing it.

Yes, basically.. And probably more than 20. I didn't ever think it would be a game.

Give me House or Jones.. I think Bellineli or Duhon would make me look stupid lol.

I wasn't ever saying I could beat the guy. I'm saying he's one of the few guys I feel like I could score a few points on. I probably couldn't stop him from doing whatever he wanted offensively, but he's not the kind of guy who I think could just shut me down for an entire game. Wether it be 1 on 1 or 5 on 5.

I have a decent amount of confidence in my game without being overly cocky about it. That's half the battle at least. Not going in scared. I have aspects to my game that I've worked very hard to get them where they are at now.

I wasn't trying to say that it would be a sprint or vertical jump competition. I was just trying to say that his level of athleticism would not be enough to make it look like a high school kid playing a pee wee kid.

The best 5 OSers would easily get ran out of the gym by 5 D-Leaguer's. It wouldn't even be close.

Hell, I would go as far as to say that a bad college team would beat the best 5 OSers going away, as well. About a month ago I scored a free ticket to LSU vs UTC and those guys on UTC were actually pretty damn good; yet they have a losing record on the year and none of them will probably ever sniff the D-League.

So unless there's 4-5 former college players hanging out on OS, then all I can say is good luck.

Still not buying it lol. Barkley, Kenny Smith, MJ, Magic and all those dudes could wipe the floor with any of us TODAY. Even Jalen Rose could outplay any of us. That's taking away the athletic advantage.

Kenny Smith I think I could score some buckets on as well.. The others are too big. Idk though. Magic is probably slow as hell by now.

The same Eddie House that dropped 50+ when he was in college?

Put up multiple 20+ games in the NBA

LOL. Good luck guarding him. Even as old as he is now...maybe if he misses, you have a chance to put up some points. IF. Again, this was the same guy who held an NBA job for 10+ years based on his shooting ability. Shooting ability is one of the last things to go.

                  Same goes for Jones.

LOL. Honestly we'd get exhausted before we could put up any amount of points. Once you go up against superior athletes everything becomes that much harder. That sliver of seperation you thought you had is no longer there, all the shots become tougher due to the length of the closeouts, that and the recovery speed of an NBA athlete is pretty ridiculous even if you do get past them. Unless you are that confident in your ability to finish at the rim against players 6'5 to 6'9 who are bigger than you....

Oh, and if we're going by general playground rules of "No freethrows, but you get ball back" if you call a foul that brings our chance of victory down from maybe 5% to 0.00000001%. Like an NBA player is going to give you a layup?

OJ. You know Magic still probably has a post game right?

Even my university team (Grambling) would probably beat the Top 5 Oser's (I certainly think OS might have a 50-50 shot though). If it was composed of Grambling Alumni (we've put a couple players overseas) I think the odds shift from 50-50 to 70-30 in favor of Grambling.

The 50-50 shot is from our current team who's losing by about 40 points on average.

I've said in nearly every post that I don't think I could defend these guys???

And Magic having a post game has nothing to do with his ability to keep me from getting a shot?

Which all I've said all along is that I could score a few points on them. Not beat them, not defend them.

And no not the same Eddie House or Damon Jones, they're both old as **** now.. And even in their primes were hardly big time athletes.. I'd put 5grand down right now that I am more athletic than Damon Jones is today.

                        1. Which is why I brought up the point of you perhaps never getting the chance to get the ball . Unless we're going with the assumption of multiple games or you getting the ball first.

                        2. I was just generally talking about from a general perspective. It wasn't really aimed at you other than the you might not get the ball bit.

                        3. I thought you were talking about Magic Johnson's offense. It was obvious in hindsight you were talking about defense. That's my bad .

                        4. That's probably true. He's enjoying his millions upon millions of dollars right now. I don't know. Could you score more than 5 on him before he gets a defensive rebound or steal? You have the confidence for that?

As far as myself, the only thing I got going for me is my streaky shooting and handles. If my shot is on I think I could put up 5 to 6 threes in a row (And I have enough range to bomb from half-court with my form still intact). Once I cool off though my defeat is all but assured

The problem with this whole argument is that we don't know how good some of the people on this board are. While those NBA players are being scouted by the best in the world, it doesn't mean that everyone who is good at basketball is playing in the NBA. Some guys get overlooked. Some guys choose not to play the game and pursue other goals in life. I'm not saying there are some people like that on this board, but there are people like that out there and it's possible maybe 1 person on this board has enough skill to keep it interesting against an old bum in the NBA. In the end they'd probably still get killed, but I don't think it'd be by as much as some people are saying.

I thought the entire scenario put forward was the 5 best OS'rs against 5 NBA scrubs. Now it's "I might keep it interesting 1 on 1" and then it's "I might score in a game on him". I am only addressing the first scenario that was put forth and that is the 5 best OSrs against 5 NBA scrubs.

I thought we were talking in general. If it's 5 on 5 then yeah.. team OS doesn't stand a chance. None at all. We'd get run out of the building and laughed at.

This is kind of off the general topic of this thread but it's not worth creating another one.

Can you imagine the stress these guys go through when they lose in the Playoffs? I mean I just watched Peyton throw an interception and the Broncos lose..

I just cannot even imagine the stress that puts someone under, these athletes are not only physically strong but mentally. Remember Adam Morrison when Gonzaga got upset? I'm very surprised that's not how it goes more often than not, these guys just take the loss and move on, it's unreal
