Re: How did he make the NBA
At least name guys like Chris Quinn, Mike Penberthy etc. etc. I have no idea how they got into the league but God bless them for accomplishing that.Comment

Re: How did he make the NBA
Not only would the 5 best OSers get destroyed by NBAers and D-Leaguers they'd also get run out of the gym and obliterated by guys in Europe who were never a factor in the NBA or sniffed an NBA roster like Henry Domercant, Antonis Fotsis, Sergey Bykov, Yotam Halperin, and Kostas Tsartsaris. It's amazing that some people don't seem to understand how absurdly good these guys are. There is a reason these guys are paid to play a sport professionally. They're all in an utterly microscopic, infinitesimal percentage of the population as far as basketball skills go.
Take the 5/12 best OSers with time to practice against a group of middling European guys who just flew in from 6 time zones away and I'd bet anything on the OSers getting destroyed by greater than 75 points. The OSers would have trouble getting the ball past half court most of the time. The OSers might be able to win at 2k or Live but on a real, actual floor it would be an execution. As Shaquille O'Neal left the Suns practice court, he yelled out, "Alvin's the coach. We must be the Clippers. And I must be Olowokandi. Nooooo!"Comment

Taur I actually personally know a few guys who still are or have played professionally overseas. And I've played with them regularly.
I just looked and one of them that I know is still playing now is averaging 20ppg and apparently starts. Know idea how though lol..
I feel I can hang with him 1 on 1 as well. I've played against him a couple times actually and did just fine.. But we weren't matched up on each other often through the game.
We have a similar build and play style though.Comment

Just checked and found some more guys I've played with and against who are playing overseas as well
And plenty of guys who played last year in the ABAComment

Re: How did he make the NBA
If you guys think it's an exaggeration and have that amount of supreme confidence in your abilities then God bless you, but I don't think there is anyway on Earth Team OS keeps it under 75.
Team OS would have to play like pirates and pull out stuff from Bill Laimbeer's Combat Basketball to get it to 5 on 1 or something. As Shaquille O'Neal left the Suns practice court, he yelled out, "Alvin's the coach. We must be the Clippers. And I must be Olowokandi. Nooooo!"Comment

Re: How did he make the NBA
Chris Quinn was a 18pt/6ast, >40% 3pt-shooter in college selected for All-Big East...and went undrafted. Even his skill level is beyond anything someone could handle unless he was at least a very good D2/D1 level talent.
And guys like Scalabrine and Cardinal are absolutely underrated considering the insane level of skills/fundamentals you need in order to become a professional bball player lacking any athleticism.
You'd assume a guy like James White could at least find a role in the league by being a defensive specialist given his athletic ability. So yeah, I'd absolutely prefer to have Steve Blake on my team instead of White.
Especially a level below NBA competiton, where Blake would become a very capable starting PG with enough intelligence to run pretty much any offensive system.
The truth is that many NBA "scrubs" are incredibly smart players with great fundamentals that get overlooked.
Look at the 2011 finals and the key charges Cardinal took, how many players on the planet can make these plays? Seriously, they're much better than one would assume.
It would be enough to take a 2nd-tier Euro team methodically running an offensive system you have to understand in order to defend it and playing full-court press for most of the time and you'd need at least a very good D2-level selection to do anything against them.
The same with the "could a college team beat an NBA team"-thread. Of course if you play enough games, but no matter how much the Bobcats suck, which college team can average 94 ppg against NBA competition?Last edited by mango_prom; 01-20-2013, 07:29 AM.Comment

I'm retracting my statement about beating an NBA player.
I went to go watch the Marist vs St Peter game. And it just surprised me how good these players actually are.
It was the first time I saw a college game in person
