Re: All-Time NBA Players' Prime Draft

I was going to go grab Zeke this round... ugh! Let me continue on with my defensive push and even though I know for a fact that he would be free later on...

91-92 Dennis Rodman. He was arguably his best during those late 80's-early 90's years while playing very good defense on some of the game's all time greats. I picked the 91-92 version of him due to his dominating performance on the glass that year (18.7 rpg).

My frontcourt is now complete with a very solid defensive bunch - three smart defenders that can hold their own on the defensive end.

    Team As Of Round 3:

    Point Guard:
    Shooting Guard:
    Small Forward: Lebron James
    Power Foward: Dennis Rodman
    Center: David Robinson

Since I need leadership and a point guard - I'll take Jason Kidd 01-02.
Leading the league in steals, 2nd in mvp candidates that year. Led his team to the finals can defend really well. All-NBA and All Defensive that year.
A point guard that has the all-around skills.

One of the greatest seasons from a point guard of all time.

For this pick I'm going to go with a big body that can score efficiently and handle these other behemoths in the post for that reason I'm picking the 1978-79 Artis Gilmore who put up basically 24/13/3 while shotting a ridiculous 58% from the fieldd and 74% from the line with 0.6 SPG and 2 BPG. Numbers like that in todays game would make you the best Center in the league (bang bang Dwight Howard).

Re: All-Time NBA Players' Prime Draft

With my interior defense and defensive rebounds locked up, I'm ready to start assembling my offense, that will greatly benefit from Walton & Russell's blocks and amazing outlet passes.

First up, I want a go to scorer, but also someone who can pass when needed, and can rebound and defend, as well.

So, I'm going with 2000-2001 Tracy McGrady, at shooting guard.

He averaged 26.8 points per game, 7.5 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 1.5 steals, 1.5 blocks, and shot .457% from the field.

In the playoffs, he averaged 33.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, 8.3 assists, 1.8 steals, and 1.3 blocks.

                Line Up So Far

                C - 1976-19777 Bill Walton
                PF - 1961-1962 Bill Russell
                SF -
                SG - 2000-2001 Tracy McGrady
                PG -
                6th -

Re: All-Time NBA Players' Prime Draft

Sorry guys, started to make my picks, then got lazy and layed on my couch watching OKC/HOU. Will have my picks up soon. With my 1st pick, I've chosen to continue with my "all-offense, new school" lineup. I'm taking Allen Iverson from the 00-01 season. MVP, led his team to the promise land, 31 PPG, good hands on D.

With my 2nd pick, I need another big man. I've decided to technically go small, and old school, to take another PF, Kevin McHale of the 86-87 Celtics. My time now has arguably the to best guards of this century and two of the best PFs ever.

                  PG: Allen Iverson
                  SG: Kobe Bryant
                  SF:
                  PF: Dirk Nowitzki
                  C: Kevin McHale

Re: All-Time NBA Players' Prime Draft

Alright, I'm completely torn on who to take with this pick. I have 3 guys in mind, 2 wing men and a point guard. On one hand, I know for a fact one of the wing men will be available when my next pick comes up. On the other hand, there are plenty of point guards still available..maybe not quite as good as the one I'm thinking of now, but still very good.

So, I've FINALLY decided to take a point guard who can post up, score, shoot decently enough, defend either guard position exceptionally well, but just as important for MY team, he can run a fast break as well as anyone.

I'm speaking, of course, of 1995-1996 Gary Payton.

Regular season stats - 19.3 points per game, 4.2 rebounds per game, 7.5 assists per game, 2.9 steals per game, 48% shooting. Defensive Player of the Year. 2nd Team All-NBA.

Playoff Stats - 20.7 points, 5.1 rebounds, 6.8 assists, 1.8 steals, 49% shooting. Helped lead the Sonics to the NBA Finals, and frustrated Michael Jordan defensively as well as anyone ever could.

As I said, I settled on Payton over either of my two perimeter scorers because I feel supremely confident that one of them will be available when I make my next selection. Also, Gary Payton, at 6'4" with a long wingspan and some of the most tenacious defense ever, would give every other teams' point guards and shooting guards fits.

                    Line Up

                    C - 1977 Bill Walton
                    PF - 1962 Bill Russell

                    PG - 1996 Gary Payton

For this pick I'm going to go with a surprise and pick this year's version of Kevin Durant 28/8/5 with 51/42/90 splits is pretty darn good. Couple that with a great passer in Magic and great interior and perimeter defenders in Gilmore and Wade with Durant not being too damn shabby himself you've got a foundation for success.

Considered taking that exact pick with my previous pick, but I needed a poin guard more than another scorer.

My next pick is 76-77 Pete Maravich. 31.1 PPG, 5.1 RPG, 5.4 APG, 1.2 SPG, 43.3% FG and he would've averaged more with the 3 point line. Truly a great scoring point guard, obviously his creativity is unmatched, he had his flaws defensively but I think his offensive capabilities more than make up for it.

                            My roster so far:

                            PG: '05-06 Steve Nash
                            SG: '76-77 Pete Maravich
                            SF:
                            PF: '86-87 Larry Bird
                            C: '07-08 Yao Ming
                            NFL: Pittsburgh Steelers

I'm gonna go with the first(maybe) point forward - Rick Barry 1974-75 season.
Averaging 30.6 ppg 6.2 apg 5.7 rpg. Great great scorer and should fit in very well since he will space the floor for the big guys with his great 3 pt range shooting and can cut to the basket really well and finish the basket creatively.
Great passer too and first in steals in 1974-75 season too.
The only downside of getting him - he is a douche.
