                        Re: How good is Kobe?

Does anyone hear remember the 1985 NBA Playoffs? Jordan was injured for all but 17 games of that regular season. He then came back for the playoffs against the eventual champion and a team that would wipe the floor with probably every team today in the Boston Celtics, led by Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, Robert Parish, Danny Ainge, and defensive-whiz Dennis Johnson. The Bulls starting lineup looked something like Jordan, Cozine, Oakley, Woolridge, and another bum. The Celtics should have won every game by 30! However, because Jordan simply did not want to lose, he went out there and, against the best defender in the league (Johnson), went out and averaged 43.7 ppg for that round while scoring 63 points in Game 2. He single-handedly gave the Bulls a fighting chance in that series. Now fellas, put Kobe in that situation. See my point? Kobe in Jordan's place would have been overmatched. He simply isn't good enough and doesn't have the desire that Jordan had. Every game woulda been a blow-out with Kobe in there. He is simply not on Jordan's level. Notice how whenever Kobe hits a big shot (like last night), everyone quickly says his performance was Jordanesque? That's because for that ONE game, he was Jordanesque. But Jordan was Jordanesque EVERY DAMN NIGHT! That is why you cannot compare the two. Jordan is considered by most players today and of yesteryear to be the greatest player to ever grace the court. Kobe is right now probably bordering the Top 50. And when Kobe retires, he still won't be considered the greatest ever because to accomplish what Jordan did (not just the title, but the game-winners, stats, desire, ability to win a game by himself, acrobatic moves, etc) is basically impossible, especially being in Shaq's shadow.
We can argue until we're blue but the fact remains that when Kobe does something great, it is Jordanesque. Jordan was Jordanesque every night! That is why when someone does something phenomenal, it was Jordanesque, but does not in any way, shape, or form put them on the same level as Jordan. Too many people here have short-span memories.
